Is this a solo build? What's with the Gauntlet of Thebes?

It can be built but definitely not first item of the core. You would want it around 5th/6th/boots swap item.

it is the best non starter tank item in the game it is the most cost efficient and the aura is useful for you teamplay play style by using you 2 and peeling

Thebes doesn't get its aura online until you've completely stacked it, plus the aura won't stack with another instance of Thebes, so you're basically wasting your gold if the support has already bought it. As the others have said, it's not core and it's certainly not worthwhile buying right after boots. Get your protection item against your lane opponent first before you start worrying about team fights.

Can't build the stacks until you start getting assists though, also with guan I'd be much more inclined to get my Breastplate and Genjis online in order to spam my abilities as much as possible.

Yeah maybe in Support but definitely not in Solo. It comes online too slowly, you wont gain the stacks quickly as you clear the lane minions and you need counter protections to your lane opponent the majority of the time ( for physical opponent, for magical opponent, etc).
