Gotta love Deathbringer as the lone crit item, especially on a god that relies more on his abilities to do damage than basic attacks.

True, but that still doesn't excuse getting crit items on an ability based god. :P Besides, fail-not isn't exactly a good item for Rat.

If I would get a Ratatoskr on Joust I would build:
  • Acorn
  • Shifters
  • Runic
  • Void Shield
  • Jotunn (or maybe soul eater)
  • Arondight
  • Sell the acorn for mantle of discordia/spirit robe

Ratatoskr is better built with penetration and cdr. Try:

Warrior tabi
The crusher
Jotunn's wrath
Arondight
Brawler's beat stick
Void shield

Sell warrior tabi for heartseeker + elixir of speed

Since you're building power and penetration, you'll need to learn how to combo his abilities.

SmiteFire & Smite

Smite is an online battleground between mythical gods. Players choose from a selection of gods, join session-based arena combat and use custom powers and team tactics against other players and minions. Smite is inspired by Defense of the Ancients (DotA) but instead of being above the action, the third-person camera brings you right into the combat. And, instead of clicking a map, you use WASD to move, dodge, and fight your way through the detailed graphics of SMITE's battlegrounds.
