Loki disappears in a puff of smoke. While invisible, he moves faster, removes Slow effects, and gains immunity to Slow effects. His next Basic Attack from stealth (or for 2s after) applies a bleed to his target, dealing damage every .5s and reveals Loki. If Loki takes damage while in stealth he will be revealed for .33s.

Introduction

Welcome to my guide for Loki, the Norse trickster God. Loki is a melee physical assassin, with high single target damage but little defence. He excels in the solo lane, but is also competent in the jungle. This sneaky assassin has the potential to one-shot squishies in the late game, but be wary, as this god is equally as squishy, especially in the early game. Play smart though, and Loki can be a truly terrifying force to deal with...

Pros / Cons

Pros:
- High burst damage
- Good mobility
- Decent split push

Cons:
- Little defence
- Susceptible to crowd control
- Poor in team fights

Skills

Behind You - Your basic attacks deal more damage when hitting enemies from behind. Always keep this passive in mind when you look to initiate, as you want to be dealing maximum damage at all times. Your kit allows you to best position yourself in order to utilise this passive.

Vanish - You become completely invisible to all enemies. When invisible, you gain damage mitigation, movement speed and slow immunity. Also, your next basic attack from stealth applies a bleed to the first target you hit. This ability defines Loki's play style, as it enables you to both initiate and run away very effectively. But remember, Loki is most vulnerable when this ability is on cooldown.

Decoy - You spawn a decoy version of Loki that taunts enemy minions. It also explodes after a few seconds, dealing damage to all enemies within the radius. This allows you to clear minion waves and jungle camps efficiently.

Aimed Strike - You gain a buff that makes your next successful basic attack deal additional damage. This also applies a slow. This ability is what gives Loki his burst potential, as you deal a lot of bonus damage on top of your basic attack damage.

Assassinate - You teleport to a target location. If you land on an enemy god you deal a large amount of damage and stun them, landing behind the enemy. This gives Loki an escape and allows you to initiate onto a target and burst them down incredibly quickly.

At level 1, put a point into your Decoy to help clear the jungle camps, as it deals some damage and draws the aggro away from yourself and your allies. At level 2, get Vanish, as you are quite vulnerable without it. After this put another point into Decoy, get Aimed Strike after that and then put a point into your ultimate at level 5. You should max your Decoy first, to clear waves and stack effectively. Then level your Aimed Strike to bring your damage and burst up. After this you should level Assassinate when possible, along with your Vanish for the bleed damage, but this is not a priority. The stun from Assassinate is more important than the damage, and the DoT from Vanish is minimal compared to the damage from Aimed Strike.

Items

Transcendence - Provides mana and mp5 useful for early game, and when fully stacked grants a lot of physical power. Essential for Loki since you'll be spamming abilities, and also dealing a lot of damage with this item. Rush this item as soon as you can so you can start stacking.

Warrior Tabi - Movement speed necessary for all gods really. Choose power over attack speed, since you want to be bursting rather than shredding.

Jotunn's Wrath - More power, some penetration and some useful cooldown reduction. Also offers a small amount of mana, which works with your transcendence to provide yet more damage. Standard item for Loki.

Titan's Bane - Vital penetration to get through the defences of those tankier foes, especially since they will be building physical protection against you. Again this is pretty much a mandatory item.

Hydra's Lament - Power and also caps out your CDR after Jotunn's Wrath. The passive also works extremely well with his kit, since his abilities already augment his basic attacks. Highly recommended for Loki.

Malice - If you feel you're still lacking in power at this point, why not throw in some critical strike chance for your fifth or sixth item? The percentage chance itself isn't particularly high, but with a lucky crit you've got the potential to one-shot opponents. The DoT also works well with the bleed from Vanish. Useful, but not crucial to the build.

Magi's Blessing - Some protections and health for a more defensive alternative, but most importantly offers CC immunity. Only buy if your purification beads alone aren't enough to help against lots of crowd-control. A luxury item but useful nonetheless.

Spirit Robe - If there isn't too much CC to worry about then this item is a decent alternative to Magi's Blessing. It provides more protections and means you can get maximum CDR if you haven't already. The damage mitigation from the passive is also a nice bonus. There are better options however.

Greater Purification - Buy beads. As Loki you'll find that crowd-control is the bane of your existence, since you are so squishy. When stunned for example, you are unable to either deal damage or run away, both of which are Loki's strong points. Buy beads.

Shielded Teleport - Makes early game farming easier since you won't be out of lane for long, and allows Loki to teleport to wards and wreak havoc from behind. This means you can either split push or sneak up on enemies and catch them unawares. A great active for Loki that suits his playstyle.

Also consider: Greater Aegis, Greater Blink, Girdle of Inner Power...

Gameplay

Start by clearing the speed and mana buff camps with your jungler. This is the standard start for solo laners as of the current meta. Allow the jungler to take the aggro. When in lane play cautiously and don't be too aggressive on your opponent. Early game you are very weak and do little damage, so expect to be pushed back to your tower. Farm up as much as possible and try and stack as soon as you can. This will become easier as you rank up your Decoy and gain power. Eventually you'll be able to completely clear a wave with one ability. At this point you can start to aggress onto your opponent and push their tower. You may also want to start rotating, and utilising your Shielded Teleport active. By this time you should have Jotunn's Wrath completed. You will now deal considerable damage. However, you should still be cautious and should only attack squishies who are vulnerable or are out of position. You should be able to pick up a few kills. Once you have Titans's Bane and more team fighting is going on, you may want to split push. This involves pushing an enemy tower by yourself. This will either draw enemies away from the team fights or you can get nearer the titan. This also allows you to farm up even more. Alternatively you can stay near the teamfights and look to pick enemies off who have low health. You should not enter directly into a team fight, as you can only target one god but you yourself can be targeted and crowd-controlled with ease. You are far more useful to your team if you split push. In the late game you should stay nearby your teammates and look to kill specific opponents. Target enemy hunters and mages, since you are very much able to one-shot them. Stay away from any tanks however. If you play Loki right though then you can pick off priority targets and split push your way to victory!

Tips and Tricks

- Make the most of your invisibility! When in stealth and attempting to escape, use the power of misdirection by running where the enemy would least expect you to go. They can't see you, so utilise that advantage. Or don't move at all! Its the last thing they'll be expecting. Unless they've read this guide...

- When clearing waves early game, place your Decoy on the back line of archers. The front three minions will be forced to move into the radius to attack it, and so you'll deal out damage to the whole wave.

- Decoy can be used as a wall to block player movement. If an enemy is running away, placing your Decoy could stop them in their tracks long enough for you to get a few basic attacks in. If you are running away, this Decoy may also buy you some time!

- Don't underestimate the damage dealt by the explosion from Decoy. Remember, this ability does damage to all enemies nearby. Placing your Decoy down just before a fight could result in enemies taking a lot of damage simply because they stood near the Decoy for too long. Many players don't expect much damage from this ability, but if you rank it up first it does a surprisingly large amount. You can also stun or slow enemies when they're within the radius for extra guaranteed damage!

- Both Decoy and Aimed Strike can be used when invisible...

- When activating Aimed Strike, it makes a very loud and very distinctive sound. You can use this to scare nearby enemies into thinking that you are about to ult them and use your combo. This may force the use of preemptive Purification Beads, which could be useful later on.

- With maximum CDR, activating Aimed Strike before a fight means that you are able to use the ability twice within one fatal burst. The buff from this ability lasts five seconds, leaving only a small window before you can use Aimed Strike again. Activating this ability approximately four seconds before using Assassinate for example means that you can get the bonus damage off and activate it again within a few moments. This is a lethal combo! Activating it early also means you are less likely to alert enemies to your presence.

- Don't be afraid to use Assassinate to escape! If you've built maximum CDR, then this is essentially a Combat Blink with a much lower cooldown!

Summary

Loki excels at picking of enemy ADCs and mages late on. If you can stick to the peripheries of team fights or split push to their pheonix, then you can be very successful with Loki. Be cautious and know your limits, and you can become a master of Loki, the Norse trickster God.
