Hello my name is Funkleosteus, and this is my comprehensive guide for
Athena, the Goddess of Wisdom.
I started playing Athena in support but have since then used her in solo, jungle, and mid. Athena is one of the most versatile gods in SMITE, she can play every role. The only reason why I haven't included how to play her ADC is because to play her ADC you need a team that is built around her.
Now, onto the guide.
Pros
Best Ult in the Game
Very Mobile
High Defense
Annoying to Fight
Great Kit
Cons
For Anything Other Than Support Your Team May Not Trust You
Reach is Athena's passive which may seem a bit under-powered but can be quite powerful. As this auto-attack can penetrate through all enemies this will speed up your wave clear a great deal. And the added damage is a great plus.
Preemptive Strike is Athena's mobility skill. This ability grants her a stack of block and her passive. This ability is quite good for ganks. However, Preemptive Strike makes a loud windup sound and can alert enemies to your position. Max this first for solo and mid.
Confound is a very strong source of CC. Confound can make or break plays. As this ability is a taunt this ability will make AAs against you a 100% hit, so don't use this when you are on very low health. Max this for support.
Shield Wall is Athena's AOE damage skill. This ability does a gigantic amount of damage. This ability does 560 damage +100% of your magical power, this ability can 1-shot enemy gods late game with some additional magical power. Confound helps this ability do maximum damage by locking the opponent in the Shield Wall. Max this for jungle first.
Defender of Olympus is the best ultimate in the game in my opinion as it helps you get around significantly quicker. It also does a whopping 750 +90% of your magical damage, it is easily capable of 1-shotting a squishy late game. I would call this ability over-powered if it did not waste if the target dies and it's cooldown is longer than well, a stereotypical long thing. Grab this whenever you can as it reduces the cooldown.
Support is Athena's go to role, she has the health, the CC, and damage to help secure kills and to set them up.
With the support build, I recommend not going starter 2 unless you are up against a 2 physical lane. Like a Guan Yu and Hou Yi.
With Athena support, try to get your ADC to a point where they are comfortable laning by themselves. Buy wards every back and ward so the ADC knows what's coming, they should also be warding. You can rotate nearly constantly after your ADC is fed enough to lane by themselves, as you do have a way to get to lane instantaneously with your ult.
Pick and choose which items you buy based on your team's weaknesses and what your opposition is.
Mid Athena is quite strong, but you may get out-poked because you are not ranged. Wave clear is simple, use
Preemptive Strike on the wave, turn around use
Reach, then wait for the minions to group up on you and
Shield Wall. This wave clear is very fast after you get accustomed to it.
The reason why Athena mid works is because her health pool and defenses are so large she can just bully all the time. I advise you not to use your ult until you get Shoes of FocusShoes of Focus.
Solo Athena is also quite good, but your stats are usually going to be on par with your opponent, so be a bit more careful. Wave clear is the same as mid's wave clear.
Athena can absolutely cream any solo if you can wave clear fast enough via practice, and you have a jungle that understands the strength of your
Confound.
Jungle Athena is a bit different than her other roles, here you prioritize movement, know your cooldown times and use your
Preemptive Strike very often between lanes and to finish off camps when leaving.
Confound is amazing for ganks, dashing in and taunting then having your team bash them into the ground while they can't do anything is a big bonus.
Athena is one of if not the most versatile gods in the game, she can play every role in the game without being out-classed whatsoever.
Have fun being a rock star!
Smite is an online battleground between mythical gods. Players choose from a selection of gods, join session-based arena combat and use custom powers and team tactics against other players and minions. Smite is inspired by Defense of the Ancients (DotA) but instead of being above the action, the third-person camera brings you right into the combat. And, instead of clicking a map, you use WASD to move, dodge, and fight your way through the detailed graphics of SMITE's battlegrounds.
