Paralyzing Spit

1 X
Cerberus's snake tail spits venom that passes through and damages Enemies. If Cerberus's dog heads are Alert, they then also spit venom when the ability is fired. Each head is alerted upon hitting an Enemy with a Basic Attack, and all are alerted after Ghastly Breath. Each projectile that hits the same target deals 20% less damage, but hitting an Enemy with all 4 Stuns them.

Ability Type: Area, Stun, Damage
Damage: 50 / 80 / 110 / 140 / 170 (+20 of your Magical Power)
Stun Duration: 1.4 / 1.5 / 1.6 / 1.7 / 1.8s
Range: 55
Cost: 60 / 65 / 70 / 75 / 80
Cooldown: 13 / 12.5 / 12 / 11.5 / 11s
Ghastly Breath
1 8 11 12

Ghastly Breath

2 A
Each of Cerberus's 3 heads releases a cone of noxious breath in front of them, damaging all enemies in range 7 times over 2.4s and reducing their Magical Protection up to three times. Enemies in the center of his breath are also Slowed up to three times. This attack immediately puts all three of Cerberus's heads on Alert for Paralyzing Spit.

Ability Type: Cone, Debuff, Damage
Damage Per Tick: 20 / 30 / 40 / 50 / 60 (+12.5% of your Magical Power)
Slow Per Tick: 8 / 9 / 10 / 11 / 12%
Protection Reduction: 5 / 8 / 11 / 14 / 17

Cooldown: 14s
Soul Expulsion
3 15 16 18 19

Soul Expulsion

3 B
Cerberus leaps a short distance forward, dealing damage on impact and severing the souls of Enemies. These souls will not block Cerberus's attacks, and killing the souls heals Cerberus. Killing a God’s soul grants 2s reduced Cooldown on Soul Expulsion.

Ability Type: Leap
Damage: 80 / 120 / 160 / 200 / 240 (+60% of your Magical Power)
Soul Health: 50 / 75 / 100 / 125 / 150

Stygian Torment

4 Y
Cerberus's haunting wail summons below him the souls of the damned, which then lift all Enemy Gods into the air while stretching the link between their bodies and souls, Damaging them. This knockup can be cleansed. A short time later, Cerberus uses this link to pull the Enemies to him. This attack immediately puts all three of Cerberus's heads on Alert for Paralyzing Spit.

Ability Type: Circle, Crowd Control, Damage
Damage: 180 / 255 / 330 / 405 / 480 (+55% of your Magical Power)

Introduction

Hello all! This is my very first Smite guide! Cerberus has caught my eye as a guardian with a lot of potential that has yet to be tapped. He may be played aggressively, which is my preference, or he can be played as a regular tank and still dominate the duo lane.
Let's get started.

Pros and Cons

PROS

    Good clear
His passive is a built-in anti-heal which opens up more item building options
Cerberus passive and 3rd ability allows him to sustain well.

CONS
    Large hitbox
Cerberus eats up mana early game
His leap ability is not very viable as an escape tool

Items!

Staring Out
When first buying your items it is very important to buy your guardians blessing and tier one boots. Guardians blessing is just a new version of the old Watcher's Gift with some extra perks. The boots give you that extra boost you need to keep up with your opponents.
For consumables, BUY WARDS! It is very important as a guardian to constantly be placing wards so you know where the enemy is at all times!
For the rest of your gold, spend them on mana pots. I would normally recommend health potions, but since one of Cerberus weaknesses is low mana in the early game it is important to keep your mana to stay in lane. With Cerberus built in health sustain you have the ability to avoid buying health potions if done right.

Boots!
In any normal scenario, it would be wise to build shoes of the magi. This gives you that little bit of penetration you need to clear the wave better and do a little bit more damage to your enemies.
If you are building a more mana based build you can switch these out for mana boots.
Now, if you want to gank lanes more often with your team you should start out with the traveler's boots as the jungle is much larger.

Protections
For item number 2, you should build protections to counter the enemy carry. Breastplate of Valor is your go-to option. This item gives you not only the protections you need but 20% cool-down reduction to give you more opportunities to bully out the duo lane.
When going against a magical carry, I would recommend using Genji's Guard.

Item #3
This should be your counter for the support and mid lane.
Most of the time these will be magical gods. The recommended item of choice would be void stone. Void stone gives you extra power that will enhance your abilities to not only clear waves better, but also to push the enemy duo lane and compete for kills. If you are not confident in your abilities you can be less aggressive and build Bulwark of Hope.

Item #4
This will be a health or mixed protection item. I would recommend building into hide of the urchin as you will start getting to the point of the game where team fights are occurring and you can build stacks quickly. If the game is very slow or you are already ahead, you can opt to build Stone of Gaia instead. This item will give you extra health and a beautiful crowd control reduction passive that will let you survive longer.

Item #5
This should be another magical protection item. Bulwark of hope will give you the benefit you need to make sure you are not bursted down by the enemy mid lane and can get other benefits such as the over shield and crowd control reduction.

Fianl Item!
For your last item I build Gem of Isolation. This seems like a very odd item to build on a tank. Well, at this point you have reached late game and you are more than likely doing less than you would like to. While you could opt for more protections to survive longer in the teamfights, you could LEAD THE TEAMFIGHT with this item. Gem of Isolation will proc it's slowing passive very easily on Cerberus as his second ability is very easy to hit enemy gods. By being able to use this passive so easily, your team will be able to secure kills much easier and finish the game.
If you are not surviving the teamfights and opt for more protections, Mantle of Discord or Winged Blade will help you last longer.
