Introduction!

Welcome to my Hel Guide! Really quick, let me say that I'm having a blast playing this character! I'm a League of Legends player that typically loves to play supports. Hel reminds me of Karma with more range. This is my first guide I've made. SMITE describes this God as a ranged mage, and she is, but I'm gonna be showing you all a support build along with some pointers I've picked up along the way. My name in-game is Kuke and I've recorded around 40+ games with Hel, so far. Anyway, let's get to the guide before I put you all to sleep!

Item Builds

There's only 3 item builds I use. One being a support build with decent damage output and the other being a more Glass cannon build. Added another build for Damage and better Durability. I rarely use the Glass cannon build because you have next to no survival ability but your burst is pretty high. It's mainly for fun. Please try these builds before you judge. Also, I'm willing to add other builds as needed; however, please use common sense and reasoning for your builds.

Support build:
--->--->--->--->--->--->--->

Start with Boots of the Magi level 1, grab Meditation, and get 3-5 health pots.
Next trip back, grab Gem of Isolation and if you need more health pots grab a few.
Then, grab Rod of Tahuti (nice upgrade to your Magical Power! MORE POWER!!!).
Next trip back, grab Warlock Sash and Hide of Leviathan (this is primarily to boost your survivability some more).
And finally, if the game's not over by now, grab Pythagorem's Piece (good debuff for you or other magical power users in your party).

Glass Cannon build:
--->--->--->--->--->--->--->

Start with Boots of the Magi level 1, grab Meditation, and get 3-5 health pots.
Next trip back, grab either Warlock Sash or Rod of Tahuti (either one is good to boost that Magical Power)
Then grab whichever item you haven't gotten yet next trip back.
Next trip back, grab Doom Orb (lots of stacks are great, if you can survive...MORE POWER!!)
Finally, grab Obsidian Shard and Polynominator (think Void Staff and Lich Bane in LOL).

Testing build:(Testing this right now)

--->--->--->--->--->--->--->

In all builds, I highly suggest getting Purification Beads for those moments where getting Crowd controlled can end your life as well as your fellow party members. It's just way too big an item to not have it! Remember, you can't do anything if your crowd controlled! Also, note that there's many combinations of items and no matter what items you choose, they won't make you make better decisions. The Support build is the one I've used the most and have won the most with. It's debatable to drop the Hide of Leviathan, too, if you don't need the extra survivability for another item.

Skill Description

Okay, Hel has some very unique abilities that no other God has. Will do my best to explain them as well as give pointers where I can. If you want to skip this section, I'll summarize skill priority:

Switch Stances>Decay/Restoration>Repulse/Inspire>Hinder/Cleanse

First, Hel has two passives: Light and Dark. Both with very different benefits. Dark Stance - Magical Power buff. Light Stance - Mana regen buff

This makes Hel unique from other God's, as stated earlier. Since you can't get either stance until level 5, you are stuck with the Dark stance at the beginning. Keep in mind that the light stance is the side you should try to stay in to make sure you don't go out of mana too fast.

Decay (Dark Stance) - Hel fires a projectile that explodes on contact, doing 80/140/200/260/320 (+60% of your magical power) magical damage to all enemies in a 15 ft radius. Restoration (Light Stance) - Hel fires a projectile that does 80/140/200/260/320 (+60% of your magical power) magical damage to a single target and heals Hel for 50% of the damage done

This is the first skill, other than your ultimate, that I'd max first. In Dark stance, it's a good idea to try and damage melee by hitting the melee minions or hit the ranged by shooting this at the ranged/archer minions. Can be a great wave clearing tool if you need to push the lane you're in. The Light stance version of this spell is simply used to heal yourself up. Don't underestimate it's use though.

Hinder (Dark Stance) - Hel debuffs all enemies at her ground target, reducing their magical protection by 10/15/20/25/30 and slowing them by 10/15/20/25/30% for 3s. Cleanse (Light Stance) - Hel buffs all allies at her ground target, removing all crowd control abilities instantly and protecting them from future ones for 1/1.5/2/2.5/3s.

This is the last skill I level. The reason are simple. One, this skill doesn't do too much by leveling it ahead of other skills except improve the duration and/or effect. This skill is underused, in my opinion, by other Hel players. Use to allow your party, or you, to catch any enemy who is fleeing in dark stance. In light stance, use this to remove crowd control from party members and to prevent them from getting chain crowd control for a time. I have saved many teammates using the cleanse ability.

Repulse (Dark Stance) - A burst of dark matter erupts from Hel's disk, damaging all nearby enemies for 100/160/220/280/340 (+60% of your magical power) magical damage. Inspire (Light Stance) - A burst of white matter soothes all nearby allies pain, healing them for 70/110/150/190/230 (+60% of your magical power) and increasing their movement speed by 15/20/25/30/35% for 6s.

This is the second skill I max, other than your ultimate. Repulse I use to help clear minions faster or to pickup a kill. It's important to note that using this skill just to get killed by someone is just plain stupid (Don't worry, been there, done that). Too many times I've used this just to get that last hit on the minion only to be killed for getting too close to other characters. Inspire is your main healing ability and should be used to help maintain party members, minions, and yourself. The speed buff is a plus as well! :)

Switch Stances - (Dark Stance) Hel's abilities cause damage and she gains 20/30/40/50/60 magical power. (Light Stance) Hel's abilities heal and support her allies and she gains 15/20/25/30/35 MP5.

Pretty awesome ultimate to me. It's not that OMG, burn faces ultimate that other God's have but it's awesome nonetheless. Only thing I'm gonna say here is to make sure to try to stay in light stance as it increases your mana regen. This becomes especially true in down-time situations like running in between lanes, going back to your lane, etc.

Wow, that was a massive wall of text! Still here? You're absolutely amazing!

Laning Phase

From Level 1-5: Play very Passive! I mean don't over-extend, use up your mana too quickly, etc. This phase is primarily for last-hitting minions and not dying. Until you get your ultimate, and even after, you'll need to careful with using your mana. Also, note that until your boots are completed, you will extremely slow movement speed. Hel can play any lane, I prefer to lane with someone though.

From Level 6-11: Now you can start playing more aggressive. With your ultimate, you'll be able to get kills and assists. Still don't over-extend or push too hard without knowledge of where the opposing team is. Should be getting stacks of your Warlock sash close to completed.

From Level 11-20:
You should be awesome in supporting your team by now. Most, if not all your items, are completed. You should be getting kills/assists, but don't forget to use Cleanse on teammates if they are crowd controlled.

General Pointers

Okay, now I want to discuss some pointers I have learned from playing Hel a little while now. This my last section of this guide, so hang in there!

POINTER 1: Play passive in the beginning!
Hel is extremely squishy in the early game. She lacks healing as well as the ability to regen mana even though I suggested picking up Meditation at the beginning. You cannot do anything without mana but auto-attack which is about as fun as watching paint dry...

POINTER 2: Last hit Minions! Rawr!
This is probably the hardest thing to learn to do at the beginning, but it's the best suggestion I can give you. Last hitting is vital to getting items quicker and possibly winning the game quicker. Can't emphasize this enough especially with using the Warlock Sash.

POINTER 3: Be aware/report of MIA's!
It's vital to your team's effort to call MIA(missing in action) of God's who aren't in your lane. It's equally important to be aware of who isn't in other lanes as well as your, and your lane-mates, position in the lane. Pushing too far down the lane while not knowing where the opposing team is asking to get ganked and killed. Be smart! Call MIA's!

POINTER 4: Support your teammates! Win together!

Hel is one of the few God's who can heal, debuff, buff, and do damage for her team. If you see a teammate running away and you can do any of the skills listed above then do it! There's no point playing this God if all you do is damage opponents. This is a team game. Play it as such when you play Hel.

Foreword/Acknowledgements

Want to thank everyone in advance for taking the time to reading this guide. I especially want to thank Force, from Forcegaming, for getting me interested in this game as well as Hel! Awesome videos on Youtube too! Keep in mind these are all suggestions that have come from mistakes I've made playing this God. If there's something I need to change don't hesitate to let me know! I'm pretty open to sound reasoning, not stupidity. I'm sure I made a lot of mistakes writing this up as it's going on 6:30 AM and I'm half-asleep LOL! Also, i'll continue to try and edit this to make the guide easier to read. This is just a rough draft. Make sure to raise some Hel! Civil-like!
