Introduction

Hello and welcome to my guide for a Tanky Guan Yu who is good as a support in Team fights.
I hope to be able to give you some ideas how to build Guan Yu to accompish the goals of this build. Keeping the carrys alive. I can already tell you that you will die a few times in order to keep the damage dealer alive. When they have low live and are trying to run away it is the job of the tank/support to make it possible for him to get away by keeping the enemys busy even if that means sacrificing yourself for the good of the team. I hope you like my ideas and might have some ideas to maybe improve this build. I am thankful for any advice you give.

Items

I know some people like to use 'Mark of the Vanguard' as the first item for a tank but I don't. I think it is important be able to move around quickly and keep the enemys away from your damage dealer. Thats why I chose the 'Reinforced Boots' as my first item. It makes you faster and gives you an extra buff when out of combat which allows you to quickly come and help allys.

I like to change the order of the 'Void Stone' and the 'Hide of the Nemean Lion' depending on the opposite team. When they have more physical damage dealers I go for physical protection first and if they have more Magical damage dealers I go for Magical Protection.

I chose my next item to be the 'Gem of Isolation' because it slows enemys when you hit them with your abilitys which gives your allys the chance to catch up if they are behind and finish them off.

Next I chose the 'Gauntlet of Thebes' just for the reason that it gives you more Health and increased HP5 which is VERY helpful in teamfights. When you survived a teamfight but are low on health you have it back by the time your allys are back.

'Magi's Blessing' is the last item and can be really helpful in teamfights. It gives you Health, Mana and a passive that will make the enemy go crazy. You can absorb an enemy ability every 30 seconds.

I would tell you always to have some Mana potions because Guan Yu eats Mana like hell. Also have some Wards to help your team see where the enemys are.

As actives I would choose 'Meditation' and 'Girdle of Might'. 'Meditation' just for the reason that it gives you a lot of Mana when you need it and 'Girdle of Might' to help your allys in teamfights.

Skills

Guan Yu's first ability is called 'Tranquil Gift' and is a healing ability. It heals you and your allys in the target area. When you heal an ally the cooldown for your abilitys is reduced by 2 seconds

His second ability is called 'Warrioir's Will' and is a dash. Guan Yu dashes forwars dealing damage to all enemys and reducing the cooldown of all your abilitys by 2 seconds.

The third ability is called 'Taolu Assault'. Guan Yu spins his blade quickly in front of him dealing damage every .4 seconds for 4 seconds. Enemys are debuffed while Guan Yu is buffed. He is also immune to knockbacks during this ability.

Guan Yu's Ultimate is called 'Tactician's Advantage'. Guan Yu jumps into the air 3 times and slams his blade down on his enemys. Enemys hit once are slowed and take damage. Enemys hit twice are silenced and take 150% damage. Enemys hit three times are stunned and take 200% damage. When an enemy is hit by the first and the third hit he is silenced and takes 150% damage. The debuff of the enemy depends on how many times you hit him.

Summary

This build is made to help allys survive and get kills and NOT to get kills on your own. You will die a few times in order to save your allys. A normal match can have the statistics of about 3-2-17. You will get a lot of assists but as a support you should not be bothered by that.
