This has been my most used starting set up. I forgo a starting item in favor of getting tier 2 Transcendence. My reasoning is that I want to rush into Trans to get the full benefits of MP5, cooldown, and start building stacks in the laning phase.
Sometimes I will pick up Meditation Cloak as my relic. I really feel like this is dependent on who my support is and who the my duo lane counterparts are.
You can also forgo some of the pots and pick up wards instead. This is based on personal preference, if your support has wards, their map awareness, etc.
Normally with this build I will stay in lane until I get enough to buy Transcendence and have my ultimate.
This has been my 'go to' build for the majority of my games with Chernobog.
I start with Trans to get a huge power spike early. This is also addresses any concerns with mana. I go with Warrior Tabi next as a preference. I do not need the mana from Ninja Tabi because I have Transcendence and my next three items are giving me attack speed so I'll have the attack speed in the later phases when I need it.
Next up is Crusher. This is where we get into the numbers and technical side of Smite. Let's look at some numbers based on the assumption you are going against the opposing team's hunter.
Base at level 1:
Min - 14
Median - 15
Max - 16
Base protections at level 10:
Min - 39
Median - 41
Max - 43
It is possible at this point that the support has an aura item to help the hunter. Most likely Sovereignty or Gauntlet of Thebes providing 15 and 10 protections respectively. If we assume the max protections in our table above and Sovereignty combined, our opposing hunter has 58 protections. Meaning Executioner will remove 6.96 protections per basic attack for a total of 20.88 protections at three stacks. Crusher will ignore 15 protections on all attacks. In this scenario, Execution is only going to out damage Crusher if you initiate with basic attacks and then follow up with your 1-2 combo. At this point in the game you are still relying heavily on your 1-2 combo to initiate so I go with Crusher first. Executioner comes online next to start shredding the support. Poison Star is very popular in the current meta because of it's impact on your boxing ability. Deathbringer rounds out the build to get the most of out of your critical damage

Hello, my name is Odin and this is my guide to Chernobog. I know what you are thinking to, I have had 'Odin' in all my tags long before Smite. So now that I have addressed that, let's get to it.
Pros
AoE stun
Strong steroid
Global ultimate
Passive - Heart of Cold
Every successful Basic Attack impales the enemy with a brittle crystal. Upon reaching 3 stacks of Heart of Cold, the enemy explodes for extra damage in an area around them (This damage does not trigger Item effects).
Heart of Cold is a great passive in my opinion for several reasons.
It is a true passive. When I evaluate a passive I like to think about how much I have to micro manage it. I enjoy playing as Izanami but I detest her passive. Don't get me wrong, it makes sense for her lore and kit and, when used properly, can be the difference in a fight. However, it is one more thing I need to consider and calculate in my mind rather than just focusing on the fight. Heart of Cold is easy; just hit basic attacks. No mathematical calculations in your mind trying to determine how much damage you will do based on your health.
Heart of Cold is always present too. Hou Yi is another one that comes to mind for this. Hou Yi's passive is he cannot be critically struck again for three seconds after being critically struck. It is a good passive and can be tremendously helpful when boxing other hunters. Unless no one builds crit. I understand the argument. Your passive can impact how your opponent builds. My point is, your passive may or may not have an impact on the game whereas Heart of Cold will always have an impact.
Heart of Cold has an additional AoE benefit. The crystals will explode after hitting the same enemy with a basic attack three times. This is tremendously invaluable in a team fight, be it 2v2 or 5v5 as you are hitting all enemies within a 10 unit range of the enemy. This also makes Chernobog's wave clear very strong, especially in the early game.
Skill 1 - Crystallized Curses
Chernobog conjures a large crystal of curses and hurls it at the target location dealing damage on landing. After several seconds the crystalline curses explode dealing damage again and rooting any enemy in the area.
The crystal can be detonated early by firing at it with Vicious Barrage.
Chernobog's main source for early damage as well as wave and jungle camp clear. What makes this ability shine is that it hits twice; once when you fire it and again after it explodes either a few seconds later or with manual detonation.
There are a lot of options for Hunters in the meta and it can be a bit overwhelming so in this section I hope to break down the itemization and when you should choose each item.
