This is a Bruiser-ish build for Ares, and you could call it 200 of everything, because it's just that. You get around 200 of each protection, and around 200 magical power.
This build is very cooldown reliant, which is where the Shoes of Focus and Breastplate of Valor come in, both reduce your cooldowns, so all in all, your cooldowns will be reduced by 35%, and you can definitely see the difference in cooldown times.
If you looked at the purchase order (which you should, if you haven't), you'll notice the Watcher's Gift in there, that item is a gem when trying to stay fed as Ares, I've found myself in rounds where my team-mates where all level 15, while I was level 18. Obviously, once you run out of room for items, sell your Watcher's Gift and buy the Hide of Leviathan.
The Hand of the Gods is a great tool, especially early game, because let's face it, Ares is not a good pusher, even late game, he falls behind, so you should pick this up, it'll help push lanes more quickly and smoothly, however, this is optional, and if you have a good pusher helping you, skip this item entirely.
Note about the power potions: Only buy these when you have everything else purchased already.
Note about Hide of Leviathan: I am aware that the Hide of Leviathan and (maxed) Bolster Defenses both give 30% CC reduction, but the Hide of Leviathan is included specifically for the good stats.
When upgrading skills, your priority is always No Ecape, if you can't upgrade No Escape, upgrade Shackles, if you can't upgrade Shackles, upgrade Searing Flesh, and if you can't upgrade that, upgrade Bolster Defenses.
Pros:
Have high power while also having high defenses.
Cons:
This is the same for every Ares, no matter what the build, and that is Aegis/Beads will always screw you over if your enemy is smart enough to purchase one or the other, there is nothing that can be done about this.
Choose a different god for ranked play, your enemy will be very likely to buy beads, rendering your ult useless. I would suggest settling for another god if you're going to play ranked matches.
Smite is an online battleground between mythical gods. Players choose from a selection of gods, join session-based arena combat and use custom powers and team tactics against other players and minions. Smite is inspired by Defense of the Ancients (DotA) but instead of being above the action, the third-person camera brings you right into the combat. And, instead of clicking a map, you use WASD to move, dodge, and fight your way through the detailed graphics of SMITE's battlegrounds.
