Hou Yi fires a powerful shot that can ricochet off of walls. After firing, if this arrow bounces off of a wall it will travel 70 units from that point and gain +40% bonus damage to gods per bounce up to a maximum of 2 bounces. This arrow will stun if the target has Mark of the Golden Crow.

Introduction

Hello and welcome to my first SmiteFire guide. This guide will hopefully help in your journey for Hou Yi.

A Tad About Me:
I'm into MOBA's obviously, an avid Smite and Dota 2 player, with a bit of Strife. My disinterest in LoL is beyond imaginable lengths. My preferable God would have to be Kukulkan (Formerly Ao Kuang), then Vulcan. Nonetheless, enough for a small intro, here is the guide folks.

Summary

This guide will hopefully better your play style with Hou within Arena mode. Feel free to suggest different skill & item progressions, as I am open to all and any. As well, with errors or inaccurate info, let me know so I can change the incorrect info.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Can see invisible enemies that are marked with Mark of the Golden Crow
  • Nice damage output
  • Escapes
  • Single target damage
Cons:
  • Slowest attack speed out of all the Hunters
  • Like the rest of Hunters, your protections aren't the best

Situational Choices:


Void Shield:
This is more for Physical Damage dealers, not a bad choice all around though, so feel free to get this w/o Magi's Blessing.

Winged Blade:
While this item offers some Health, CD Reduction, Movespeeed, and Attack Speed, Qin's Sais are you usually better, but feel free to try out both or the other.

The Executioner:
This isn't a bad item, but it's not needed that much due to other items working well together. This provides 30% Phsyical Power, and 20% Attack Speed.

Runeforged Hammer:
55 Physical Protection and 350 Health are great bonuses of this item. As well, a decent 15% of your Physical Protection is converted into some Physical Power.

Frostbound Hammer:
With 400 Health and 25 Physical Power as bonuses, this is great as well. Even more, it slows your target's MS by 30% for 2 seconds - Easier to lock down with Mark of The Golden Eye, and then follow up with Ricochet for a easy stun, and extra damage.

Malice:
50 Physical Power and 20% Crit Chance are nice bonuses. As well, if you do crit on a attack, you deal +75% of your TotalPower for the next 3 seconds, nice right?

Rage:
30 Physical Power and a 30% Crit Chance rate are nice. If your basic attack does not crit, your chance goes up with every attack until 5, so a 50% chance to crit.

Combat Blink:
This is a great escape/chase tool when Divebomb is on cooldown. But this has a 3 minute cooldown, so you need watch the timing of this.

Weakening Curse:
Hit your enemy harder with this, works great on a target who is marked.

Wrath of the Gods:
A little extra farm and CC for you.

Skills

This passive gives you a major benefit to Gods who rely on Crits for damage and kills.
Tips:
1) Crit protection

Ricochet:

Hou Yi draws back his bow for a powerful shot. After firing, if this arrow bounces off of a wall it gains +70 units distance and +50% bonus damage per bounce up to a maximum of 2 bounces. This arrow will stun if the target has Mark of the Golden Crow.
Tips:
1) Try to lead your aim. Always aim a little bit ahead of your target to land this..
2) Each bounce increases damage.
3) The arrow can basically bounce off of anything, so don't feel bad trying to learn some ricochet techniques/walls.
4) Max this first for damage and piercing potential.

Mark of the Golden Crow:

Hou Yi marks an enemy with Mark of the Golden Crow. Marked enemies take extra damage for every 10% of their missing health from Hou Yi’s abilities and basic attacks. At rank 3, marked enemies are visible to Hou Yi on the minimap including stealthed gods. At rank 5, Hou Yi gains +15% penetration against the marked enemy god. The mark lasts for 15s.
Tips:
1) ALWAYS use Mark of the Golden Crow, extra damage, possible stun with Ricochet, knockback with Divebomb, slows with your Ultimate
2) Extra damage to your target
3) See invisible enemies

Divebomb:

Hou Yi launches into the air, holding his bow above his head as he glides forward. After a short time Hou Yi quickly dives to the ground damaging any enemies in the immediate area. If the target has Mark of the Golden Crow they are knocked back.
Tips:
1) Good chase/escape skill
2) Immune while in the sky
3) Knockback if target is marked

Sunbreaker:

Hou Yi shoots nine arrows into the sky, striking one sun with each arrow. The nine suns come crashing down one by one, dealing damage in a target area over time. A target with Mark of the Golden Crow will have their movement speed slowed by 20% for .25s on every hit.
Tips:
1) Not the best Ultimate, but it is very nice because the AoE
2) Target marked will be slowed
3) This is where Physical Power comes in handy

  • Anyone with an Aoe/Stun

Heroes to be aware of:
  • Loki
  • Bakasura
  • Zeus
  • High Magic Damage Dealers

Conclusion


Hou Yi is a very good, all around damage dealer with a nice escape and AoE ultimate. The main thing you need to worry about is your protections. Don't be extremely cocky and be the first into a fight, be aware of your surroundings.

SmiteFire & Smite

Smite is an online battleground between mythical gods. Players choose from a selection of gods, join session-based arena combat and use custom powers and team tactics against other players and minions. Smite is inspired by Defense of the Ancients (DotA) but instead of being above the action, the third-person camera brings you right into the combat. And, instead of clicking a map, you use WASD to move, dodge, and fight your way through the detailed graphics of SMITE's battlegrounds.
