How is the river Ganges pronounced?

Is it Gangs, as is what American minorities often form (don't hurt me)
or
Gan-gees, as in how my mother says it's pronounced (I can't think of a witty comment to make so the truth will have to suffice)

Excerpt from Wikipedia :

The Ganges (/ˈɡændʒiːz/ gan-jeez), also Ganga (Hindi: गंगा; Bengali: গঙ্গা ; Sanskrit: गङ्गा; Hindustani pronunciation: [ˈɡəŋɡaː] gung-ga)

We here in Indonesia pronounce it as Gung-ga (The spelling is "Gangga".) In English it's the Gan-jeez one. (Hold the phone, your mother was right!)

I'd like someone to photoshop some gangstas on pictures of the Ganges.

Well I'm Indian, I usually laugh when people say gan-jeez.

I pronounce it as gan-ga (long a). That's how it's pronounced in the Mahabharata. Pretty sure everyone in India calls it river ganga though.

So in the west it's gan-jeez, and in India it's longa (you did intent the L I assume)? Cool, the more you know I guess.

English-speakers always butchering names -_-

For example, it's Sir-van-tes not Sir-van-tayz or Sir-van-tees (talking about Miguel Cervantes)
