You should play Realm of the Mad God. It's pixelated and quite addictive. F2P but in order to be really good at the game you do have to buy some stuff.(Ex. chests,charater slots and stuff but never items)
But then Kabam bought it...
My reccomendation? Team Fortress 2. Just try it, it's free. Just try it.
I would play TF2 but the only reason that's keeping me from it is... The Steam client is so buggy for me. IT can't update properly. :/

Planetside 2 is an option to check out. FPS on a crazy scale, and it incorporates a lot of strategy elements not in other similar games (when you join a platoon that actually plays strategically, that is).
I'm already playing Planetside. VERY hard to find a fun battle. The only thing I could do there is farm xp on winning battles... SO fcking boring...
The only fun battle I had was on top of a mountain with my other faction and the other faction across the other mountain.. The sniper battles there was so fun. Espcially when putting up turrets as well... Miss those days. Now its just real hard to find a battle where it could go either way. :/
