I fully understand the problem with bad players who seem to enjoy hurting the team; they make the game worse for everyone, including people who just want to have fun playing the game without a huge focus on treating it as life or death. That goes back to helping only who you can help though. If someone makes it clear that they don't want to stop hurting the teams they're on, just block them. I don't have a problem with people being bad, but being bad and unwilling to listen to anything the team says is toxic, not bad.

The main thing I'm trying to convey is that sarcastic/caustic/abusive help is less helpful than constructive criticism 'because' of how most people react to negativity. I would say most take it as simple negativity rather than some. You're going to get raged at if you play a MOBA, and it's worse if you're bad. A lot of people don't know how to ignore that and tune it out, and they just shut down and get defensive once they sense it starting to happen again.

Also, I wouldn't confuse being on tilt with getting discouraged or not trying to win. I'm a pretty calm gamer, but even I have to walk away sometimes. That's not an option in Smite though. You can snowball negatively in game and out of game at the same time, and those games are really rough. There's nothing people in game can do to help you there.

In a way abuse does make you learn games and can actually ENCOURAGE you to be better than you even wanted to be.

This is off topic a little bit but this has to due with ABUSE in games.
You know how I said a few times on this forum that I used to be one of the best in the world at those armored core games? (still have videos for proof)

Well GUESS WHY I GOT SO GOOD?

It was because of **** TALKING!!!

This is a true story too, I played the game and alright at it, someone was talking so much **** to me on the video game that I was 1v1ing the person... well he ended up cheating and getting his clan to all jump me in the match 1v8 and I lost because of his cheating ****.

I was so pissed that I played that game 24/7 and put in HUNDREDS of hours and this means ONLINE, it literally have showed how many hours I played and it was in the hundreds, this doesn't include offline.

I then could literally then 1v4 people on that game.

BASICALLY **** TALKING IS WHAT ENCOURAGED ME TO SAY
- I'm going to get so good that nobody is ever going to **** talk me again and nobody is going to be able to beat me at this damn game

Just out of curiosity though, what percentage of people do you think actually dedicate themselves harder because of trash talking and abuse like that? Because I think it's significantly lower than the percentage of people who just say 'eh, this sucks, I take enough **** in other places, I'm gonna go play Pokemon instead of Smite.' I know a lot of people don't care about how others react to them playing a game, but it would bother me if my actions were making others enjoy the game less.

I'm not saying that negativity can never encourage people to improve, just that it's sub-optimal if you want to help as many people as possible, not to mention it hurts the game environment for the of your team, and is just barbaric in general. There are better ways.

The best players curse each other out.
I know that for a fact.

Being that I used to play xbox for YEARS with highly ranked people from games like gears of war 1,2,3 and other games (mainly gears of war and armored core) people curse their brains out.

And I ain't just talking about like top 100 of the best ranked players I mean literally the best of the best curse if they get **** on as well.

Ah the good old days almost make me want to get back on my xbox live.
It was so fun playing against the top players and actually beating them then here everyone talk **** at the end of the match or before the rounds start.

Especially in ****ing gears of war, hell I think gears of war invented the slang "GET RAPED" because I never herd it as much as when playing that damn game.

But seriously.. maybe when the pros ain't on camera they don't try to curse because of rules or too look good but I would say MOST of them will say "****" and get mad when they start dying.

Thats what makes them pro... losing irritates them because true pros don't like to lose.

I bet you ANY MONEY that if smite had headsets that you could chat with, you would here alot of the top ranked players cursing their brains out and saying **** alot.

Being that I also did Gamebattles before (which are the clan battles) I can tell you that the best of the best get the most rage than normal players who play for fun. I remember playing a clan match in GOW 1 YEARS ago and when our clan leader died he would rage so ****ing hard.
I recall him raging at me until I 1v3 wall bounce the other team to save the day....

then he wants to kiss my *** for winning the round.

Accept it or not..... ragers are the most pro
smite doesn't count for me !

Abuse is unnecessary, especially with newer players who don't care if they get a deserter penalty because they may never play the game again. Saying GDAM NOOB WHY ARE YOU BUILDING GOLDEN BOW!?!?!?! OMFGasdaf is not nearly as helpful as saying dude, why are you building golden bow, that item sucks... You can get the point across without being an ***. I get that people get upset sometimes, I just never really see the point in typing it in like that, unless i think its intentional trolling. Yeah doing it with abuse works, but its not the best way to go about it.

This game is for 18+ right? You registered agreeing that your 18+. So why the hell not you can't trash talk new players? If you find it hurtful and you just want to rage quit because of a few bad words then can you call yourself an adult? I mean really... :/

It's different if your being a racist or you actually know the person who your making fun off. But if your trash talking someone who doesn't know how to play right, and trying to tell them how to. It's different. It means something. And it can't be personal if you don't know the person at all.

It's just a random stranger raging at you. Trying to tell you how to play the game RIGHT. But instead some people just ignore it and play it their own way. Thinking that their an *** and should not be listened to at all D:

You're kind of hoping for a chance in human nature here. People are psychological humans that seek social approval. If you rage/****talk someone he or she will go into a defensive position.

It's one thing to take someone's **** and just ignore it, but it requires alot more from a person to take someone's ****, and then proceed to listen and/or follow his advise. By doing the latter you lower your own value by both taking **** and highering his value by also following his advise. It's not in our nature to do this, as it makes us seem to be a weak social individual. A habit from the ol' club-in-hand days were it's all about being alpha and socially approved in order to survive.

It's not without reason there are in-depth studies on how to give feedback to colleagues (which a teammate, in a way, certainly is). The most basic one being "the sandwich": Say something nice, say where he ****ed up massively..politely, and proceed to say something nice. Albeit this being the most basic approach, there are countless of ways to give criticism and advise and actually be helpful also. Giving **** prior to advise never works and you're misunderstanding human nature to think it should.

Ofcourse there are people who won't listen regardless of approach. But yea, some are just doomed to stay ignorant and never improve. Not worth your time.
That's just my 2 cents.

This is why I made this post in the first place... to make THOSE kind of players listen to the **** they get and NOT ignore it xD

It's like saying: A soldier doesn't give up after he gets shot in the leg. He still stands up and shots back. If the people some of you are saying that can't take **** that means their the ones who just stay there on the floor giving up on their life very easily.

Slightly edited my post to make a bit more sense with that in mind.
But yea, what you are trying to accomplish is not much different than trying to accomplish that you can punch a random person in the face and expect him to feel happy about it.

If you want people to listen to your advise, tell them without making them feel bad first, I know you do it to blow off steam, but you won't get your criticism across at all, thus he will make the same mistake and create thy shall a vicious circle.

Just be somewhat friendly, clear and thorough.
If they act salty and ignore you anyway, **** talk them to you heart extent, because they won't be listening anyway.
That's just my 2 cents.

Oh I already know that. But of course that barely works. Since some people don't like being told what to do. This post was meant to make toxic player listen even to the **** they get. Because why they get **** talked? Because their **** themselves for not listening in the first place.
