Warrior's Axe will increase your protectons early game and give you a slight edge because, with your passive, you're already really hard to box within the first couple levels. This item won't help you clear very much, but we'll get to that part. Chalice/pots to sustain. Blink for a highly aggressive early game, and beads for safety.
Warrior Tabi will be a big early power spike for you. Helping your clear and boxing potential. You can get pots for extra sustain or wards for vision and safety.
Here's where you become really hard to fight. With Mystical Mail, you're doing constant tick damage to the wave and your opponent. Your clear will be faster and your boxing potential increases as well. Even against magicals I would still suggest doing this because of the clear and boxing advantages it gives you.
With The Sledge and Mystical Mail you are capped on CCR, meaning a stun that last one second now last 0.6 sec. The Sledge also gives you a lot of health, mana, some power and the passive gives some protections.
Pridwin is decent on Hercules, giving him a nice shield after hurling a big rock across the lane. The shield is equal to his prots and it explodes to do damage too as well as slows. It's good for chasing and survivability because of the shield itself and the slow it has.
Genji's Guard is really good on Herc because of the CDR and the stats, but also because of the passive. giving you the potential to heal and dash rapidly in teamfights.
Here, I have so options for what you can do with your Starter. I find the upgrades to not be always viable, but they can still work. Hero's Axe will be good as long as your jungler is consistently diving with you. Because if they get hit by a stun they get a shield worth 15% of YOUR health making them a little harder to kill.
Sundering Axe is good if you're trying to chunk and if they don't have antiheal. But other than that I wouldn't purchase this item.
Void Shield is really nice for the 3 P's, being power protections and penetration. It's really good on Herc because you want to be uncomfortably close to your opponents.
Glad Shield is good too, making your abilities to more damage to enemies the more protections you have. Seeing that you have a lot of prots, this is a good item.
Hide of the Urchin is a good tank item. Giving health and mana and 51 all prots. Good to get Hunky.
Pestilence is great against high healing team comps. Good for health and magical prots too. So if you're lacking antiheal this is your item.
As you can see, I chose to build Hide then sell boots for Void Shield. I'm still very very tanky but I also do decent damage.
This build is exactly like something you'd want on Hercules
or a character like him. A lot of CDR to pull off as many heals, pushes and pulls you can. CCR to reduce the amount of time your opponents can lock you down giving you more potential to use your abilities. Health, mana, prots, etc. for general tankiness. Some decent power and a little bit of pen so you have some solo kill potential. It's all around a good build.
Mantle of Discord is an item that gives you 60 all prots and 10% CDR with a passive that, once at a certain health threshold, stuns enemies around you and gives you cc immunity for 1 second.
Spirit Robe give you 40 all prots, 10% CDR, 20% CCR and a passive that, once hit by a hard cc, grants you 15% damage mitigation for 3 seconds.
Caduceus Shield on Hercules is probably the only warrior in solo i would purchase this item on. I would on Chaac so long as my has some healing too, possibly on Guan under the same conditions. But Herc's heal is so aggressive and strong that I find this shield valuable on him. This item also gives you health, power and all prots.
Oni Hunter's Garb is really good as an alternative for Genji's, assuming you didn't purchase mystical Mail or The Sledge. This item has 20% CCR so you will be over capped if you replace Genji's in the build I have shown you. The passive is still really nice though and worth considering.
I have displayed for what I prefer to do on Hercules. With this build, my initial wave clear once Mystical Mail is purchased is increased, giving me the option to prioritize my heal. This heal is so potent in the early to mid game. Hence why I chose to max it before my pluck. Though, you can max your pluck after your Driving Strike if you want. I do put point into my ult because it hits fairly hard, but you can also skip your ult too. At level 8 and level 9 remember to point save to max your Driving Strike and put a point into your ult.
