Guan has very high base damage in his 3 because of the protection shred. Adding Bluestone to that damage will deeply increase your damage potential thus winning you pressure. Healing chalice/pots for extra sustain, or chalice/multi pots for dual healing because they stack. Blink for early aggression or beads for safety. I suggest blink late game regardless. Thorns is good into certain comps.

Guan has good damage throughout the whole game,and to increase that damage you want power boots. Warrior Tabi will be such a good power boost for Guan you'll be shred the opponent like a cheese grater. Extra pots for sustain(your choice between multi or healing) or wards for safety and vision.

Breastplate will give you everything you need; CDR, mana, MP5 and physical protections. Everything except for power, but CDR helps you have your abilities up more often so technically you'll be doing more damage. You following?

The Sledge is another really good item on Guan because of the CCR, the health and mana, the little bit of power and the passive gives you more protections. You'll be very very tanky, while still doing tons of damage.

Yet another character who requires full CDR. Pridwin will give that to you. Followed by a shield matching your protections. This shield comes after ulting means your chase potential is increased because the shield blows up after a certain time or being destroyed and slows/damages whoever it hits. You then dash them to slow some more and hit them with your 3 to finish the job.

I feel like Void Shield is a must have on Guan Yu, because on top of stealing an enemy's protections, you reduce them as well. This item is so good, giving you power, protections and percentage penetration making you dangerous for anyone to take head on.

These are some items I would swap my Bluestone for. Though there's not many of them and the damage is lacking, I still feel they are great items on Guan.
Hide of the Urchin is great for the increase in health mana and protections.
Pestilence is great for antihealing and magical protections.
Glad shield when purchased will over cap you on CDR but the passive is still really really good. Plus it gives you more power health and prots.

I opted for Hide then sold my boots for Glad. In the end, my damage is really nice. I have some pen from Void Shield and my 3. I'm very tanky from my health and protections. And I constantly have an ability up having full CDR. Meaning I can shred protections more often, heal myself and my team more often, dash more often to escape or chase, and ult more often to keep the engage and the initial fight going. This is a great all around build for Guan Yu solo.

Some more solid choices for Guan Yu.
Mantle of Discord being a valuable item when in sticky situations cause a stun and cc immunity for a second but that could be just enough time to escape. The stats are really nice on the item too.
Spirit Robe is a great item as well, giving CDR and CCR and 40 all prots. As well as a passove that makes you tankier for 3 seconds every 15 seconds when hit by hard cc.
Magi's Cloak is situational. I wouldn't purchase it if they aren't canceling your 3, which is where a lot of your damage comes from. So by having this item at a crucial point in a fight you can use your 3 the whole duration. Again, only purchase into high cc teams.
Heartseeker is a pretty greedy item. It gives you pen and power and a passive to help you kill even faster. You could buy it if you're ahead as a snowball item, but if you're behind or even I would purchase something else. But the option is still there.
Pestilence is great against antiheal. As a frontliner you need to be the one to purchase antiheal so your support can buy items to help your team. This item gives health and magical prots too.
Hide of the Nemean is good into high aa team comps. Or good if the ADC is destroying you. It has nice stats and blocks autos for a max of 3 stacks. You gain more every 15 seconds.

Prioritizing your 3 is huge damage. It's your main wave clear and it creates so much space in teamfights or skirmishes. Point save level 8 and at level 9 max your 3 and put a point into your ult. I like to get my dash at level 2 to increase my clear speed, but if your opponent struggles to clear the wave like Achilles then get your heal to make it more threatening for him to clear the wave. I would still max my dash after my 3 though for even more damage. The heal comes a little more in handy late game, but if you're getting destroyed in lane maybe consider the heal...
