Before Elixir of Speed

Notes Protector of the Jungle helps offset the physical protections in this build while also giving more attack speed.
Stone Cutting Sword not only gives you penetrations, but more protections. The good power increase and movement speed is a nice bonus.
Ninja Tabi fills the all important boots slot, its just the best option out of the four for this build.
Soul Eater will give you that survivability before the protection items. The lifesteal is really nice, but not too much to depend on it.
Shogun's Kusari is the best magic protection option for thus build. The cooldown and cc reduction is good, but the attack speed steroid is amazing. It practically fills both slots.
Shifter's Shield is an amazing boost to damage and protections when it matters. Amazing for turning with the tides of battle.

Extended Build

After Elixir of Speed

Notes Crusher is my choice for boots replacement, it gives you a little bit of everything as far as damage goes. The damage over time (DOT) is a nice addition, and pairs well with your fire damage. I have won fights with this DOT, do not underestimate it.

Good Relics

Notes Pick Aegis or Bead for your first relic, depending on the team you are fighting. Or go Blink if you are brave.
Blink is great as a second as it allows you to keep your leap off cooldown for an emergency escape. Also, I live those surprise blink moments.
Magic Shell is just an amazing defensive relic. It can save lives and turn the tide of the battle.

Situational Relics

Notes Heavenly Wings is good for catching up to enemies.
Cursed Ankh is a great anti heal option.
Belt of Frenzy is always fun with the damage steroid.
Horrific Emblem allows you to slow down your prey.
And Phantom Veil, in case that Odin is focusing you. But then again, you can always just use your leap.

Inroduction - Playstyle

This build relies on an opportunist playstyle. Be willing to jump/blink in with a sudden dropkick into a wall or an ally. Then follow with a 1, or the ultimate if needed, and start smacking them. Be careful in the early game, as you won't be able to take too much damage. Soul Eater should give you some survivability, especially while in the radius of your 3, but don't depend on it. Shoguns will give you the magic defense and attack speed you will need, this is when you will pop off. Even with full build, you may be able to take a beating, but not much of one.
