Many people fall the trap of building Bellona strictly as an AA warrior. She needs a good mix of both abilities and autos to really shine.
Many people fall the trap of building Bellona strictly as an AA warrior. She needs a good mix of both abilities and autos to really shine.
In my experience with Bellona, strictly auto based builds do much less damage and have way less staying power compares to a mixed build that sports both ability and auto damage. Bluestone adds damage on all abilities (useful because every ability does damage on hit!) while providing passive sustain thanks to it's hp5 and mp5. Gladiator's shield boosts defense, damage, cooldown % and max hp all the while giving you extra damage on every ability based on your defenses (this pairs well woth her passive as it stacks defense). Berserker's shield gives you more hp5 for staying power, some damage, a good amount of defence and of course attack speed to help build your passive and use auto's between abilities. Next is shogun's kusari which should come around by the time you start invading and patrolling the map, near mid game. Shoguns gives you some magical defense, max hp, cooldown % and mp5 for boosted passive sustain. Shoguns also is a teamplayer item that gives everyone within a radius attack speed (including you!). Afterwards, we build crusher to further increase our damage, attack speed, and gain flat penetration which'll help out our auto attacks a ton! The passive on crusher works similar to bluestone, extra damage on ability hit. Manticore's spike is next and it gives you dual protections, max hp, and a wonderful passive that drops a spike when your apply a hard cc, your hard cc being the disarm on the scourge and the stun on your ultimate. Said spike if picked up by you will make your abilities deal an extra 7% max hp damage to an enemy hit by your next ability! Otherwise, if an ally picks your spike up, they get a reduced buff that is still helpful! Lastly, we upgrade our bluestone pendant to bluestone brooch so our abilties now apply huge ticking damage. The overall point here is that Bellona uses abilities as much as her auto attacks, so getting extra damage on all abilities while still being able to churn out decent autos between each ability is the goal here. Your sustain, while not the best in the heat of battle, is still passable. The extra cooldown we have (normally auto warriors will only get 10% from shoguns which can be rough!) Makes chaining abilities and autos that much easier. While I'm no expert, I've played her a fair amount and have found that (at least with my playstyle) this setup and build tends to do quite good damage while allowing me to be a good frontline warrior. This build is in no way how and why to play Bellona, but instead the argument against all the strictly AA builds you see put onto Bellona. While AA can work, it I feel strongly that she shines with this mixed set. Pardon my garbage formatting, but hopefully you can give the build a try and see why it works!
