Cutting straight to the point, I've never seen anyone use gem at all. Seems like it would only ever be useful on particularly mana starved gods, like a spammy neith against a mp majority enemy team. But at late game that problem is usually solved. Am I just being blind to its potential, or is it crud?
Blind, though I don't blame you. It's good on gods that are building tanky enough to need the magical protection, but with not enough health for Stone to be better, and survivability to put the passive to full effect. In my opinion, all supporty healers in the solo lane fit - Aphrodite, Ra, and Hel come to mind. But only if you're solo, though - in no other position should you be building bruiser-y with aforementioned gods.
