What's the deal with Smite audio?

I have it running through Realtek (motherboard audio hardware/codec), and am messing with the Realtek virtual surround for my headphones. What exactly is coming out of Smite for audio? I'm looking to get positional audio here, so I can tell better where sounds are around me. Just ordered a pair of Sennheiser PC350 SE's, am using Sennheiser HD 280 pro's right now, they're... OK.

SmiteFire & Smite

Smite is an online battleground between mythical gods. Players choose from a selection of gods, join session-based arena combat and use custom powers and team tactics against other players and minions. Smite is inspired by Defense of the Ancients (DotA) but instead of being above the action, the third-person camera brings you right into the combat. And, instead of clicking a map, you use WASD to move, dodge, and fight your way through the detailed graphics of SMITE's battlegrounds.
