Freeze on login

It's been a while since I played and thought I'd get back on but every time I try to log in it freezes. I am able to hit play and load the menu but as soon as I type in my password and hit login, it freezes for a minute or so then says unable to connect to server.
Any advice or fixes for this? Tried google but wasn't helpful.

SmiteFire & Smite

Smite is an online battleground between mythical gods. Players choose from a selection of gods, join session-based arena combat and use custom powers and team tactics against other players and minions. Smite is inspired by Defense of the Ancients (DotA) but instead of being above the action, the third-person camera brings you right into the combat.
