Hi-RezErez posted these changes for the Public Test Server:

The Public Test server will have a new version in the next 24 hours if all goes well.

There are some significant changes that we plan on testing to compare the three versions and player preferences. (Current live, previous PTS, and upcoming PTS)

The major changes include a different item system with the following feature:

There will be 3 types of items:
Stat items = Items that only provide stats
Special Items = Item that provide special passives
Active items = Items that allow you to have an active ability (same as current purchased abilities)

Stat items will be bought using gold. and you can buy as many as you afford. Special and Active Items will be free. However, the slots for these items will unlock only as you level up, according to this chart:

Special and Active Items
Level 1: Unlock Active Item slot #1
Level 5: Unlock Special Item slot #1
Level 8: Unlock Special Item slot #2
Level 10: Unlock Active Item slot #2
Level 11: Unlock Special Item slot #3
Level 14: Unlock Special Item slot #4
Level 17: Unlock Special Item slot #5
Level 20: Unlock Special Item slot #6

Stat Items
Stats will have a max, and buying same item multiple times will get more expensive each time (may or may not make it to PTS yet)
Physical Stats:
Physical Damage: 900 gold for a 30 PD item
Attack Speed: 600 gold for 20 AS item
Armor penetration: 500 gold for 20 AP item
Physical Lifesteal: 600 gold for 20 PL item
Critical Chance: 400 gold for 10 CC item
Magic Stats:
Magic Damage: 900 gold for 60 MD item
Magic Lifesteal: 550 gold for 20 ML item
Magic penetration: 500 gold for 20 MP item
Ability Stats:
Mana: 500 gold for 300 Mana item
Mana per 5 sec: 500 gold for 10 MP5 item
Cooldown reduction: 300 gold for 10% CR item
Defense Stats:
Physical armor: 300 gold for 20 PA item
Magic armor: 300 gold for 20 MA item
Health: 800 gold for 400 HP item
Health per 5 sec: 300 gold for 10 HP5 item
Utility Stats:
Move speed %: 300 gold for 10% MS item
Focus: 400 gold for 20 Focus item


Special Items
Movement
* Attacking a target with your in-hand increases movement speed by 10% for 2 sec
* Attacking a target with an ability increases movement speed by 10% for 3 sec
* 25% faster run speed when out of combat
Defense
* All physical or magical damage taken is reduced by 5 and you get 5 heal on hit in hand hit
* Reflect 30% of basic damage back to enemy as physical damage
* When hit by a basic attack, there is a 30% chance to slow your enemy's movement and attack speeds by 30% for 2 seconds.
* 30% reduction to all crowd control duration
* Absorbs a single enemy ability hit once every 45 seconds
* Restore 2% of your champions max health every 5 seconds
* You permanently gain +5 Health per minion kill. (max. 100 stacks)
* When hit by a physical attack, your physical protection is increased by 20 for 5 seconds. (Max 3 stacks)
* If you are below 25% health you will get a shield that reduces damage by 50% for 2 second only once per 60 sec
* When hit by a slow, you are immune to slows for 2s. and run speed increase by 10%, Only occurs once every 30 seconds.
Auras
* Aura: Does 30 magic damage per second to enemies around you
* Aura: +20 Protection Physical & Magic to nearby allies.
* Aura: +20 Magical Power to nearby allies +10% magic lifesteal
* Aura: +10 physical attack, +10% Physical Lifesteal to nearby allies
* Aura: All enemies within 30 feet have their attack speed reduced by 15% and their Physical Power reduced by 25.
* Aura: Reduces the Magical Protection of nearby enemies by 30.
* Aura: Reduces the Physical Protection of nearby enemies by 30.
* Aura: Friendly players regen 2 mana and 4 HP per sec
Physical Attack
* 1.5% of your maximum health is converted to physical power
* Ignore 33% of your enemy physical armor
* Crit damage is increase by an additional 50%
* Physical attacks reduce your target's armor by 7% and 5 flat for 3 seconds (maximum 3 stacks)
* Your basic auto-attacks reduce your target's movement speed by 30% for 2 seconds
* On hit you do 2.5% of target max heath as physical damage
* You permanently gain +.5 Physical Power and +.25% Physical Lifesteal per minion kill. (max. 40 stacks)
* You gain +1 Physical Power per stack and receive 5 stacks per player kill and 1 stack per minion kill. All stacks are lost on death. (max. 50 stacks)
* All auto-attacks will also hit enemies within a 10 ft radius of the target for 50% of the damage.
* your basic attacks have 25% reduced healing and regeneration for 3 seconds, max of 3 stacks
* If your attack does not crit your chance to crit goes up by 5%, max of 10 stacks, resets when you crit
* You gain 10 mana per per minion kill. 2% of your mana is converted to attack damage (max. 60 stacks)
* in hand attacks reduce your target's Magic protection by 7% and 5 flat for 3 seconds (maximum 3 stacks)
* You gain 1 additional attack damage per 2% of missing health
* Your next hit after using an ability will do an additional 30% physical damage, can only happen once every 2 seconds
Magic Attack
* 1.5% of your maximum health is converted to magic power
* Ignore 33% of your enemy magic armor
* You permanently gain 10 mana per per minion kill. 3% of your mana is converted to magic power (max. 80 stacks)
* Increases magical power by 25%.
* Using an ability gives your next basic attack within the next 5 seconds +100% of your magical power (as physical) in additional damage. The effect can only apply once every 2 seconds.
* Your abilities with damage will reduce your target's movement speed by 30% for 2 seconds.
* You permanently gain +2 Mana and +.5 Magical Power per stack, and receive 5 stacks per player kill and 1 stack per minion kill. (max. 100 stacks)
* Enemies hit by your abilities 25% reduced healing and regeneration for 4 seconds, 2 stacks max.
* You gain 1 additional magic power per 1% of missing health
* using an ability increases focus by 10 for 10 sec (stacks 4 times)

Lol, thanks.

However, that's very interesting.... I mean, granted, they don't want to have a completely same item system as LoL (LoL and Dota have very different item system and stat systems so that's the main differentiating point about them, and the heroes of course), but this may not work it doesn't seem... right.

I personally really like how they added all the new purchasable special effects, but it may screw up the game as per say, the 30% Crowd Control Reduction. That seems like a no brainer and is very useful in nearly every situation on anyone, and it would make CC just not as potent at all and may ruin the initiating power of Crowd Control initiators like Hades.

Stats... I don't really like this for some reason I can't put my finger on....

Also, removal of Fatalis. Someone who is long gone must be happy.

This is rather terrifying in ways.

I'm not against change, but this is giant. I guess I'm only hesitant to try these ideas because I've invested so much time with the game as it is already. If this does create a good system though, this individuality could very well put SMITE on the map, so to speak.

The more I think about it, the more I can see the appeal to this set up though. It allows almost complete customization with your builds. With the abandonment of items with set stats, you can pick a combination of any stats you want without being pidgeonholed by EVERYTHING that certain items come with.

Very interesting, good post!

BTW: You can still get Fatalis, just spec your character with only movement speed, attack speed, and CD reduction! HOW USEFUL!

I've been think alot about this today

and so far this is what i think:

you guys said that this allows more customization
but all AD carrys are going to have the same upgrades first

all tanks are going to have the same upgrades

ect...
now I'm talking about high lvl play not your random pug for fun and trolling

this looks different but i feel like its more complicated just go make the same mistake
focus was a good start for differcety but this feels like a step down

i mean games wont last long enough to let you build what you want
early game you need the best upgrades and if you don't you'll get slaugtered

also like buddha said
the passives are almost no brainers about whats good
there used to me stats preventing us from from taking good passives
now they're not stopping us and we get the same 6 passives on each god

the item system wasn't perfect or balanced
but this is just complicating a dumbed down game

That's good for gods like Freya - no need to max one stat.
2-3 Stat Items of near each type are great for her...
