Naram-Sin was king of Akkad and grandson of Sargon the Great. He is the first known ancient king to claim divinity, and to declare himself a God. Under Naram-Sin the Akkadian Empire grew to greatest size and to its utmost strength. During his reign he smashed rebellions and conquered the hill tribes of the Amanas, Taurus and Zagros mountains. By the end of his epic military campaigns his people begged the Gods to grant him divinity. He was the last great Sargonid Emperor.
