Ji gong is a monk who disliked the monastic code and often drank wine and even ate meat. In doing this he was knocked out of the monastery he was living in. He then roamed the streets helping those who were poor and stopping injustice. One story about him is that he sensed a mountain peak was about to come crashing down on a village so he rushed there and tried to warn them but they all disregarded him for being the mad monk. Luckily a wedding procession was nearby so he kidnapped the wife and in doing so made all of the villagers follow him out of the village just as the mountain peak came down on their village destroying it and sending rocks everywhere. Ji gong noticed a small girl was still nearby the falling rocks and just as one was about to land on her he extended his hand and pushed the rock back.
