Heidrun

Goat of Mead

Celebrate with mead and drinks! Brew and share special concoctions with your friends!

All ability and item icons used are temporary placeholders. Original artwork coming soon.

At the center of cosmos, within Odin’s hall lies the tree, Laeradr, a branch of the world tree, Yggdrasil. The she-goat, Heidrun feasts upon the leaves of Laeradr and produces the entirety of Valhalla’s mead. The fallen soldiers, the einherjar, drink Heidrun’s mead to their heart's content, while they await the dreaded day of Ragnarok. With various drinks and mead available, Heidrun keeps the jovial spirit going in Valhalla. While naive, Heidrun is not oblivious to the events occuring outside of Valhalla. The large-scale conflict between the gods has even brought the attention of Valhalla's goat, who seeks to keep spirits high and to rally her allies to battle.

Passive Ability

Valhalla's Mead
Two-part passive.

Harvester of Laeradr: Saplings of Laeradr sprout at the locations of dead gods. Every 9 minion or jungle monster that Heidrun kills or assists in, will cause a sapling to sprout near Heidrun, as well. Heidrun can consume these saplings to gain 25% decaying movement speed for 2 seconds, and produce 1 unit of Mead. Each sapling lasts for 60 seconds.

Brewmistress: While in Fountain, Heidrun can utilize 2 units of Mead to concoct a random unique drink. She sells these drinks at the Item Shop for 500g each. Each drink may only be bought once, and will need to be restocked afterwards.

Primary Abilities

Revel
Heidrun drinks up and shares her drink with all friendly gods within 35 units, all gaining attack speed for 4 seconds.

Upon consuming 2 units of Mead, Revel will cleanse Heidrun and her allies from crowd control, in addition to granting everyone 0.5 seconds of crowd control immunity.

Attack speed: 15/25/35/45/55%

Cost: 40/50/60/70/80 mana

Cooldown: 18/17.5/17/16.5/16 seconds
Roister
Heidrun spills her mug at a targeted area, damaging enemies, and leaving behind a slippery surface. This slippery surface lasts for 4 seconds.

Upon consuming 2 units of Mead, Roister will heal Heidrun and allied gods upon contact with the initial hit. Enemies struck by the initial hit are also crippled for 2 seconds.

Damage: 70/125/180/235/290 (+70% of your magical power)

Heal: 15% of your missing health

Cost: 60/65/70/75/80 mana

Cooldown: 16/15/14/13/12 seconds
Merrymaker
Heidrun tosses her mug forward, damaging all enemies in its path, and stopping at the first enemy god. Upon striking an enemy god, they will become intoxicated and slowed for 2 seconds.

Upon consuming 2 units of Mead, Merrymaker will spread to nearby enemies within 55 units, passing over the effects and damage of the ability. Enemies affected by Merrymaker are also disarmed.

Damage: 70/105/150/185/220 (+70% of your magical power)

Slow: 15/20/25/30/35%

Cost: 70/75/80/85/90 mana

Cooldown: 16 seconds

Ultimate Abilities

Carouse
Passive: Heidrun stores up to 10 units of Mead. Heidrun may consume 2 units of her available Mead, in order to augment her next ability cast, by pressing the Jump button. These units of Mead are visible to enemy gods, as a bonus UI feature, near Heidrun’s health bar.

Active: Heidrun chucks a large keg of mead to a target location, exploding upon arrival. Enemies struck by the explosion receive damage and are knocked away.

Upon consuming 2 units of Mead, Heidrun instead shares a large quantity of mead with herself and her allies, gaining a large surge of movement speed and crowd control reduction for 5 seconds.

Damage: 200/265/330/395/460 (+80% of your magical power)

Movement speed: 30/40/50/60/70% decaying over its duration

Crowd control reduction: 40%

Cost: 100 mana

Cooldown: 90 seconds

You gain a surge of 40% movement speed, that decays over time, and emit intense heat, reducing healing by 40% for all enemies within 55 units. This lasts for 8 seconds.
Valkyrie’s Kiss
Cleanse yourself and become immune to crowd control for 0.5 seconds.
Jotunn Infusion
Increase your size by 50% and gain 10% damage mitigation. This lasts for 8 seconds.

Vanir Surprise
For 2 seconds, the next instance of damage you receive will spawn a clone of yourself, moving in a linear direction, while also granting stealth. Stealth lasts for 2 seconds.

Notes

I hope that you enjoyed my god concept on such an obscure figure in Norse mythology.

As stated earlier in this post, I am using placeholders for several icons, in an attempt to have icons that match the abilities, until I create my own icons and finalize my artwork for Heidrun. I envision her similar to a satyr, in that Heidrun would be half-human, while her lower half has characteristics of a goat, as well as sporting horns on her head. I chose this approach instead of a complete animal form because it fit closer to my gameplay ideas than having a quadrupedal character. Heidrun is a very obscure character in Norse mythology, so there are more liberties you could take with their design, than if they were a popular figure- not many people would be infuriated to see their favorite goat be humanized.

Heidrun would have a bubbly personality, and due to her relatively low status in her pantheon, she would be amazed by the world around her. If anyone plays Battlerite, you noticed that I used Blossom's portrait, and that's because she closely resembles what I'd like Heidrun to be, both in visual design and in personality. I do enjoy the more positive goddesses in SMITE, such as Sol, and Awilix, and it'd be nice to have another. I don't mind that I chose such an unknown or weak figure since we have had characters such as Ratatoskr, and Bakasura, in the game.

I've had the gameplay idea of a "Brewmaster" (Not DOTA2) archetype for a god in SMITE floating for a long time. A character that provides powerful and unique consumable drinks to allies, by collecting items on the map. Perhaps I haven't dug deep enough but I couldn't find any mythological figures who could fit this idea to my liking. There was Dionysus although he already exists in SMITE as Bacchus. I thought of using this idea on Baba Yaga but I'm not well versed in Slavic mythology, and she's already a popular and requested figure so there'd be a greater chance at disappointing fans of the character. Nonetheless, the "Brewmaster" would have challenges of having a relatively weak core kit to make up for having various unique drinks; although that could be remedied by having the drinks cost a fair price for their effects- forcing players to choose between furthering their builds or buying a 1-use consumable.

All in all, I'm happy with how Heidrun turned out, kit wise, now all that is left is her art. Thanks to the SMITEFIRE team for allowing me to share this concept here!
