Dracula

the Devil of Wallachia

A forest of impaled corpses line the way, left to become food for the ravens that fly overhead. Making those feel as if they were walking down the road to Hell. Venturing past the dreadful sight, the road leads those to an opening of a castle, old but standing tall and foreboding. If you haven't turned back now, then it's too late as you're now in the domain of Dracula.
Count Vlad Dracula, a wicked warlord of the small nation of Wallachia who ruthlessly defended his kingdom from any enemy with inhuman violence and brutality. The people believing that this Count wasn't even human, thinking he was some kind of monster. Rumors of drinking the blood of his victims, having control of the weather, manipulating the minds of those around him, and other demonic abilities soon spread as the Count continued his reign.
Moments before Vlad's execution, the lord of evil paid a visit to the Count to make an offer, a simple trade; Immortality for his humanity. A choice was made, as Vlad was beheaded the world believed that this was the end of Count Vlad Dracula.
Unfortunately for humanity, they may have killed the man but they didn't kill the monster.

Who is Dracula?

Dracula is the most known and feared vampire the world has ever known. Popularised by Irish writer Bram Stoker, the story of Dracula gave a new rise to vampire lore from 1897 onward. While vampires differ between not just writers but also cultures, Dracula has remained one of the world's most known and recognized vampires for over the 120+ years since his inception.

Dracula's Place in Smite

Similar to Cthulhu, Dracula is a modern creation from literature but the legend of Dracula has transcended the pages he was written from.

The legend of the undead have been a concept for a very long time throughout multiple places around the world but the most common and most used version of the vampire primarily comes from Eastern European folklore with the name being derived from the Slavic word упирь (upir) which means "ghoul". On top of that, the character of Count Dracula was heavily inspired by 15th century Wallachian Voivode Vlad III, also known as Vlad Dracula or Vlad the Impaler. The name Dracula struck fear into the heart of man long before the book was even written.

Seeing how wildly known the name Dracula has become over the centuries, it would make sense for this universally known horror icon to take his place on the battlefield.

My Vision

  • Theme - Blood-Thirsty: Even if once human before, at his core, Dracula is a monster of the highest caliber. Drinking the blood and taking the souls of his enemies to trade for the one he sold.

  • Visual - Warlord: Playing both aspects of Dracula, his outfit blends the noble attire of the count with the armor and weapon of the commander. Dracula's sword will be modeled after the Kilij the real Vlad used during his reign.

  • Personality - Villianous: Dracula has a very long and infamous legacy of his brutality and barbarism towards his enemies but is no stranger to diplomacy. Unfortuatly, the opportunity doesn't come up a lot. Dracula can and will use anything to win, no matter how brutal his methods are.

  • Perspective - Conquest: Dracula used to rule his kingdom with an iron fist before his execution by the Ottomans and was stopped again during his take over of England by the vampire hunter Van Helsing. But now, with all the gods busy dealing with a higher threat, Dracula can slip under the radar and build up the kingdom he once lost.

Voice Line Ideas

Actor

Personally, I can think of no one more fitting than Crispin Freeman. Having previously played as the vampire Alucard (Dracula) in Hellsing, his performance of a cold, stoic, and maddening monster of the night was down-right perfect. All he would need to do is put on a Romanian accent and he's set to go.

General

  • Character Selector: "I am Dracula."
  • Introduction: “Listen to them, the children of the night. What music they make!”
  • Low Health: "I need a drink."
  • Death: "You haven't seen the last of me!"

VGS

Emotes (VE)

  • A - "Hehehe...Excellent."
  • G - "I haven't had this much fun in ages."
  • R - "How devilish of you."
  • W - "Ah haha!"
  • F - "Show no mercy."

Taunts

  • "I got a stake with your name on it."
  • "My name can mean 'Son of the Devil', want to know why?"
  • "I've never had the blood of a god before, come here and let me have a bite."

Direct Taunts

  • "I never drink...wine." (Bacchus)
  • "You and I are quite similar." (Camazotz)
  • "I thank you for this gift but it seems you've outlived your usefulness." (Chernobog)

Jokes

  • "Note to self: No Italian, nothing but garlic."
  • "Do you know what I told a priest who visited my castle. Don't cross me!"
  • "Ask me if I sparkle, I dare you."
  • "Am I bothering you? Sorry for being such a...pain in the neck."

Gameplay

Dracula joins the battlefield as a warrior who could be played in Solo as well as Jungle. Dracula having decent long-range poke, crowd control, and debuffs that can give him a nice front-liner role, and his passive making him tankier and providing lifesteal to his abilities could make his survivability factor high. I expect people to utilize his passive when it is active to roam and gank enemies.

Unique Gameplay Features

  • Day and Night mechanic that can make Dracula more dangerous depending on the time of the match. Rewarding players who become active when the time is right.
  • Being able to use the soul of the enemies he consumes to resurrect himself in a form of pseudo-immortality.
  • One of the few gods who have the ability to blind his enemies but unlike others, Dracula can do it in a larger and longer area.
