Introduction

Welcome to my guide for Sol, Goddess of the Sun

My name is Zilby. I am a semi-casual player who primarily plays conquest. My preferred role in conquest is the solo lane, but I do play all the roles relatively evenly. Sol has inspired me to once again craft guides due to her unique and addictive playstyle. She's captured my heart in the mid lane with her powerful AA based attacks, and awe-inspiring speed. Thus, this is a guide for Sol in the mid lane.

This is my twelfth smitefire guide, and I intend to update it, so feel free to comment things that should be added/edited.

Regardless, lets move on to the fiery goddess herself, Sol!

Conclusion

Sol is a powerful mage with an interesting blend of auto-attacks and abilities unique to her kit, making her truly a joy to play.
She is by far the hottest god in Smite (although Agni might like to argue against that statement).

I hope you liked this guide and that it helps you to become a better Sol player.
Happy smiting!

You make the most awesome guides and you have taught me how to play smite much better! But can you please do a guide for Nu Wa?

If you feel too squishy use mediatation from the very start it's OD with your passive and your regular heal especially when you keep killing minions

Yeesh, just here to give my upvote. Great detail, organization/presentation, etc., as always with your guides. That fire .gif brings the heat!

These respones are in regard to 2, then 3.

You mention how you will be averaging 2 poly procs, while this can be true the problem with Poly in general is that your first AA is the poly proc. Miss it, and it disappears. Then, you also have to take into account that since Poly procs on your 2 you could just end up hitting a minion. Just doesn't seem to offer enough for what it does. (Also could be better if you change dem with poly in placing)

Telk can offer good damage, but the problem with mid is the meta is passive in mid lane. You never really poke, otherwise you'll die. Ontop of that, I think she'd contribute more from the power rather than the extra basic damage.

@Greenevers, are you saying that just for the dps? I choose Polynomicon for that spot since at that stage in the game it gives you a extra mana and lifesteal for sustain in lane. Would higher dps really be preferable to that at that stage in the game? (on top of Shoes of the Magi's pen no less)?

@Covertactician, hello again :)
soulstone helps Sol's early clear and poking potential, which I find can be very valuable. However, the points you brought up are very valid, if you're afraid of getting ganked early or if the enemy has a much stronger early game (eg: Eset) that they can use to bully you out of lane, Vampiric Shroud is a much safer pick. I'll see if I can add that in as an alternative.

As for Polynomicon, since AAs are so integrated into Sol's kit, you're averaging 2 Polynomicon procs per engage. Even if your power isn't enormous, all those procs add up and do help your dps quite a bit (more so than the measly extra power you get on average from Bancroft's Talon unless you're at 25% health). However even then, I also like that item for the lifesteal and mana at that stage in the game (although according to green I might change this, idk).

Telkhines Ring paired immediately with a Demonic Grip can give you a fair amount of damage early game, especially for the small price. Overall, it's very cost effective for the damage it gives at that stage in the game. If you're not experiencing that you're probably not utilizing it quite right. Regardless, it's not an AMAZING pickup, hence why it's mentioned after an already niche pickup voidstone.

Thanks for the good feedback guys <3

So there's a lot of comments on this thread, so here I am to contribute my 2 cents. Well, here I go. (Sorry if theres a lot of repeated questions/points...)

1. Why soulstone? It is not a bad starter, but I feel since Sol is so fragile that the extra health from Vampiric Shroud is way more valuable than the extra mana and power soulstone gives. The difference from soulstone's passive isn't noticeable enough for me, and mana shouldn't be a problem since Sol doesn't really use many abilities outside of her 2.

2. So I think this might be something commonly pointed out, but I don't think that Poly is worth it on Sol too. I don't think it's terrible on her, but realisticly the only time poly is good is when you have good amounts of power. You would be much better replacing it with any other magical power item, Bancrofts, Ethereal, etc. Don't think it's terrible, just that there's better options.

3. Telek shouldn't be listed really. It doesn't really make an impact, even with sol's 3. Just better items really

Other than that, it's a good guide! Visually pleasing, informational, and very useful! +1

I would say so too, but her 2 is basically made for that. It deals alot more with it. And besides he has two pen items afterward, with the boots.

Greenevers (105) | October 9, 2015 2:46pm
idk about Polynomicon but you definitely want a pen item in that item slot (3rd) either Demonic Grip or Spear of the Magus.

I haven't played her that much so I can't say too much about the rest :(. Looks nice though!

@vithaliy, Sol's Disapparate kills Arachne's sticking power. You really need a lot of cc like serq, Thor or Hun batz

@devampi, I had to use online tools to create the transparent fire gifs from pre-existing fire gifs with black backgrounds. They're cheesy but I like 'em ^^

If you wanna use them you can just copy the image location and use the image tag on them since they're just gifs (do note the original gifs aren't as wide as they are in my guide, I just set their dimensions manually.

*forgot to mention, I also have a faster moving fire gif I experimented with below if you're interested in that (looked to busy in the guide so I didn't end up using it)

(sounds like Dota 6.84 release most matches were around 20 mins because of deathball comps and if it didn't go well it dragged out till the good 50 mins XD)

Gotta say those flames are so epic teach me how to use those flames I want them in my sig

Maybe my little Arachne will be back in higher tier to get rid of this Sol! :D
