W***up, readers. If you haven't been reading the invisitext, I recommend doing it, by highlighting the text.

[x] Sprint for the gate and:
-[x] Use the key to try to get out.

The gate seemed like the best bet. You're pretty sure the key was magical, even if it smelled like manure and was covered in rust.

The atrium is a simple flat square of earth, with the gate in front. You make it about halfway before they finish reloading. You're acutely aware of this because a crossbow bolt pierced your left hand.

You keep running.

The gate is a simple, heavy wooden door inlaid with metal bars and locked with a padlock. You jam the key inside and twist, and the gate unlocks.

You duck behind the door and hear the sound of a dozen bolts slamming into the wood. However, you don't close it just yet - not until you lock it again.

The villa, for whatever reason, is surrounded by a dense forest. You half run, half limp towards them, and you only relax after the villa fades out of sight.

It's dark, but thankfully, the moon is bright in the sky tonight. Then you clench your teeth and try to avoid screaming as the bolt in your hand catches against a tree branch. You're suddenly much less thankful.

You don't know how long you kept moving. All you know is you walking until all the fear, anger, and adrenaline drain away and the pains and aches you've been running from catch up with you and club you unconscious.

You wake up, and your hand is on fire.
it hurt
Your head is ringing, your vision is blurry, and it's cold and dark, but the bolt is still in your hand and that's all you can think about.
it hurt oh god it hurt
It suddenly seems like a great idea to pull it out.
it hurt it hurt it make it stop makeitstopmakeitstop
You can't stop yourself from screaming this time.

The sound echoes throughout the forest and your ears. Something in your head decides you couldn't handle this, and you promptly faint.

You wake up. Your hand is on fire.

There is chirping in the air, and you can feel the warmth of the sun on your back.

You vaguely hear something rustling.
You stand up, look at your hands, and promptly vomit onto the cave floor. Only the cave was suddenly far smaller than you remember, and it mostly goes all over yourself.

You stumble out of the cave in a daze. Only the cave turned out to be more of a small alcove under a rock, and you're still in the middle of nowhere.
There are always predators in a forest.
You're pretty sure you had a sword. And a key. And some shackles, although you're less happy about that one.

It turns out, you find them scattered on the ground, along with the crossbow bolt, which you don't even remember throwing.

You take a breath. You were alive. Alive, mutilated, and in pain, sure, but you were alive.

So you pick up the sword with your right hand and slip the key, and somehow, you feel stronger.

You reexamine your surroundings. You can see dried blood cakes on the ground and on some of the trees in one direction, and you suppose that's where you came from.

The blood. Something followed the blood.
You turn smartly in the opposite direction, then you hear some enormous thing comes crashing out of the woods behind you.

You turn around to see a scaly, reptilian beast with many swaying, snake-like heads on long, twisting necks, connected to a squat, lizard-like body. Only this lizard would be taller than you are and could eat a horse. You can see hunger in its dozen eyes, and venom drips from its open maws. It roars, and the sound of it shakes the forest.

A hydra.

It descends on you like an angry apocalypse.

Well considering it's a Hydra, slashing its head of is a bad idea. So:

[x] Dodge! (51%)

[x] Dodge!

Dodge!: 1d100 62

You throw yourself to the side as the Hydra lunges, and its fangs miss you by an inch.

It's heads slam into the ground, and you're on your feet, charging.

You're perfectly aware of the hydra's legendary ability of splitting heads, so you opt to stab the blade toward the base of its necks.

The hydra is fast - it recovers before you can thrust, and the swords ends up hitting one of its necks - the sword is ripped out of your hands as it hooks and tears a long, vicious gash into one of hydra's necks.

The hydra screams, blood pouring from the wound, but its eyes affix on you with malevolence and it barrels toward you.

Dodge!: 1d100 52

You duck and roll beneath the creature's legs, and its tail whips past your head, nearly knocking it off your shoulders.

You spot the sword, laying on the ground a few feet away near the base of a tree. You sprint towards it and scoop it up, and instinctively duck behind the tree. Acid splatters against it half a second later, and some of it splashes onto your right side. It burns.

You peek your head out. One of the hydra's heads is sluggish and limp, but you can see the wound is slowly beginning to regenerate. The rest of its heads focus on you and hiss.

[x] Stab! (44%)
[x] Slash combo! (52%)
[x] Wait! (Write-in strategy) (???)
[x] RUN AWAY!

Target: (Modifiers)
-[x] Heads (-15)
-[x] Necks (+0)
-[x] Body (-10, extreme risk of damage, +50% to sword)
-[x] Legs (-15, high risk of damage)

Votes locking in about six hours.

Example Vote:

[x] Stab!
-[x] Necks

or

[x] Slash combo
-[x] Target body

Meaning you'd charge to the body, slashing.

[X] RUN AWAY!

Screw this. This hydra's too much for you. So you run.

And run. And run.

The forest seems to never end. As you run, the scene gradually changes from the clustered hillside to a steep slope to a huge, sparse grove of slender cypress trees.

You keep running until you feel like your lungs were going to burst, and you collapse at the roots of a massive oak, heaving for breath.

The hydra has vanished out of sight - but then you hear a huge roar in the distance.

You felt like taking another step would kill you.

[x] Climb up the oak and hide.
[x] Hide behind a tree.
[x] Pray.
[x] Take it head on.
[x] Write-in...
