This is my first attempt and building a guide, so please bare with my inexperience however, I felt the need to make a guide to help people with I god I find is unappreciated, Zhong Kui. This guide is meant for siege and arena match types and not conquest as I don't use Zhong in it. So without further adieu let us begin.
Edit:I Figured out how to put images in so I hope that helps.
Pros:
-Great sustain
-Good CC
-strong solo/mid lane
-Good damage over time
Cons:
-No escape
-Skill are meant for close range
Zhong Kui's passive is his Demon Bag
. For every person you mark with your First skill,Expose Evil, and then hit with your second skill, Exorcism(before Expose Evil wears off), Zhong Kui get one stack placed into his demon bag (max. 20) and each stack gives 2 of both physical and magical protections for a max of 40 each. When his ultimate Recall Demons is activated, for the duration of the ability, the amount of protections is doubled but, once it ends your bag will become empty again.
This allows Zhong to one of the more bulky mages in the game but, he's still a mage so watch out! It's usually best to build it up for your ultimate though don't feel it always feel the need to have it fully build up before your launch it.
1.Expose Evil
: The crux of Zhong Kui's kit, this ability fires a talisman out in a line hitting everything in range and then deals tick damage over the next 5 seconds. The talisman can be removed early through the use of Zhong's second and third abilities
Expose Evil cast is pretty fast with a thick line making it easy to hit targets with. I recommend using this on minions and follow it up shortly after following it up with Exorcism and them after so you can build stacks, as well as heal if necessary. If you manage to hit an enemy god while aiming for the minions I recommend letting the talisman tick for as long as possible on them, unless you need to heal off of the god.
2.Exorcism
: Zhong Kui fires a cone in front of him, removing evil spirits from enemies it hits, and dealing burst damage to them. If they are marked by Expose Evil then this ability will put stacks into your passive and heal you for a percentage of the the damage but only for 3 of the marked enemies you hit! Also, if the talisman is still on an enemy when Exorcism is is used, Exorcism will deal 40% of the talismans remaining damage(so the talisman wont deal as much as it would have but you can use it to add to immediate damage Exorcism causes).
This skill is vital to Zhong Kui's survival and sustainability. It is fired in a cone so you wont be able to hit an entire minion wave with it unless you move to the side of them. On an enemy god I usually use this to follow up his third skill. Important note!!! There is a slight delay from when Zhong cast this move to when the demons go into your bag and heal you so keep this in mind
3.Book of Demons
: When you put the first point into this skill, a scroll will appear and follow Zhong Kui, basic attacking when he does dealing half the damage of Zhong's own basic attack. When activated Zhong will spin the scroll in a short AOE around Zhong deal some damage and stunning gods in it. the stun time is double if they are marked by Expose Evil.
This skill will help Zhong Kui deal some more damage with his basic attacks but I still would use this skill as an excuse to make him focus on using his basic attack. The activated side of this is great to used just as Expose Evil is about to wear off on an enemy god to stun them for more time, deal the bit of damage it does, and the follow up with Exorcism (works very well when you activated your ultimate.) I often grab this first to strengthen the basic attack and then save it for upgrading last
4.Recall Demons
: In interesting skill, Zhong summons demons from out of his bag to attack and chase down enemy gods who are in range. As stated the protections Zhong gets from his passive are doubled while this is active but you will lose them when the skill ends.
It is extremely important to note that the demons will NOT attack minions so keep that in mind.
Shoes of the Magi
: A good start that provides some power and mana on these to be very useful as well as I can always pick up chronos' pendant if I feel I want cool-down.
Spear of the Magus
:This is an item you want, period. This is your pen, this is your life if you want Zhong Kui to deal any amount of damage.
Gem of Isolation
: This item comes heavily recommended the slow combos great with Expose Evil, which already slows, and Recall Demons making it hard for gods to escape who are unprepared. It is a bit more situational than Spear of Magus but its utility it is just something you'd want over most damage dealing items.
Rod of Tahuti
: Obvious reasons, Rod of Tahuti is the 'piece d resistance' for any damage dealing mage.
Chronos' Pendent
: If you find by now that you still don't need to buy any bulky items go for this to help spam your skills.
Ethereal Staff
: I personally like the a the added health, and subsequently the passive, of this item. It also take the health from Gem of Isolation and turns it into an offense that's really helpful for a bulky mage like Zhong.
If you are doing Siege and Arena matches like this guide is geared towards you start off having your 3 main skills so assuming as such, focus on building Zhong Kui's Exorcism
skill up first and then his Expose Evil. As much damage Expose Evil
will do you still want to get Exorcism up for the healing and build of your passive. The stun on Book of Demons
is nice but if your hitting gods while marked than they'll still be stunned for a second as base.
You'll want to use Expose Evil
to chip away at a gods health, so hit them with it when you can. When you're ready to kill or force and enemy god back, after letting Expose Evil tick for as long as you can afford hit them with the active part of Book of Demons
to stun them and deal a bit of damage and then, strike with Exorcism
.
Recall Demons
can be used to help finish gods off during this combo but you will probably want to save the skill for when your in a team fight or to fend off ganks from other enemy gods.
So to summarize, Zhong Kui's Expose Evil
is the bread and butter (but mostly the bread) of his kit. It's what helps set up the start of his damage as well as crowed control. As such it is necessary you to take Spear of Magus to supplement this backbone of a skill skill. Don't forget to use Exorcism to heal when you can but don't forget there is a delay between cast time and heal. Lastly, Recall Demons is useful for finishing a person off but it can turn the battle of a team fight and save your life in a gank.
Also keep in mind that Zhong has no escape move so picking sprint, combat blink, or curse can save your life.
I hope this guide helps is some way for people struggling to use Zhong Kui, The Demon Queller.
