Nox extends her shadow, rooting and crippling a single enemy god in place and dealing damage over time. Nox must channel and stay within range to maintain hold on the target, but may cancel this ability early. Nox will continue to channel this ability even if she is hit by Crowd Control effects. While channeling this ability Nox suffers no directional movement penalty.

Introduction

Hi guys and girls,
I'm CakeSlapping or CAKE SLAP, a casual player who's been enjoying Smite since the Xbox beta.
I've loved the thrill of PvP ever since the first time I played against my brother at Micro Machines on the PS1, and have since become competent at various PvP genres, however Smite is my first MOBA.

So, I've now built up the competence/confidence to write my first guide for my current favourite God, Nox.
Hopefully this guide will help improve someone's game, and drum up some enthusiasm for a God who seems to receive little love from the player base.

Hope you enjoy.

Updates coming soon...

I'm currently taking a short break from Smite, but I will be updating this guide to reflect the most recent patches when I come back to the game, in a few weeks time.

Who is Nox?

Noxis a widely underestimated God, who is great in both 1-on-1s and team fights. She is able to have a great deal of control over the battlefield using her abilities, and is generally very disruptive and obnoxious to the enemy team, which can be very influential in swaying the course of any team fights/Ganks and whatnot.

She is capable of massive single target burst damage by using her abilities in combination with each other, with her main combo often able to one shot squishies mid-late game.

Something to watch

Here's a small collection of my own fun clips, from Season 2, that I've put together, which will hopefully give you an insight into how useful Nox's kit is, and how fun she can be to play.

Obviously this isn't a showcase of the worlds best Nox plays, but it should give you a rough idea of what she's about.
Have a watch and then read on with the guide.

Pros and Cons

Pros
-Great control with Shadow Lock and Siphon Darkness
-Great damage scaling
-Large AoE silence
-Great synergy with a lot of gods
-Decent mobility and utility with Shadow Step dash
- Night Terror is good for both initiating fights and finishing weak gods
-Good gank potential with her ability to lock gods down
-Very disruptive to ability based gods

Cons
-Very weak wave clear until at least level 6
-Very long Cooldowns
-Main combo can be difficult to land
-Easily overwhelmed if out of position
-Dash is short range
-AA based gods can be problematic

Abilities

Flame of the Night

Flame of the Night is a simple passive. Every time Nox casts an ability she lights one of her candles, up to a max of 4, giving her an extra 3% magic per candle. A candle is extinguished upon each instance of damage Nox takes.

Lightin' Up

Shadow Lock
Shadow Lock is a great ability which allows Nox to root an enemy and deal tick damage for 2 seconds, as long as she channels the ability.

Putting them in Lockdown

Siphon Darkness
Siphon Darkness is Nox's big damage dealer, and main wave clear. Siphon Darkness is a large AoE silence which detonates for massive damage.

Detonating shadows

Shadow Step
Not going to say too much about Shadow Step. Its a dash which deals damage when you hit enemies, but it also has a unique twist in that you can dash inside a teammate and then explode out of them dealing damage around you. It's useful for hitching a ride with more mobile gods or hiding inside a teammate to avoid damage.

Step into the dark

Night Terror
At first Night Terror might seem like quite a weak ultimate for a Mage, but look a little deeper and you'll find that this is a brilliant ultimate.
Nox gains cc immunity and fires out a big ball of darkness which travels extremely fast in a straight line in front of her, over a very long distance (the same distance as Ra's ult, I believe). The projectile deals a block of damage on impact, followed by five seconds tick damage, and causes enemies to do 30% less damage for the ticks duration.

Give them Nightmares

Item Build

Starter items

You want to pick starting items to give you the best opportunity to not fall behind early game. There are two starts I pick between, and it's important I pick an appropriate start to ensure I don't fall behind early game.

Born in the dark. Moulded by it...

1st Item-Stacks
Building a stacking item and collecting stacks will help you become very powerful very early and allow you to bully your lane opponent.
You'll be less mobile early game building this first, but as long as you don't push up too far too often, then Shadow Step is generally all you need to escape any early ganks. Just make sure to save it for when that happens.
If for any reason you fall behind by more than a level or are being bullied badly in lane then you should buy this second and get your boots first, for a cheaper and earlier, but smaller, power boost to help you keep up

Building Fat Stacks

2nd Item-Boots
Next you want to build your boots for the mobility, which will make it much easier for you to try and outmanuever your lane opponent and also make it much easier to survive ganks, which become more commonplace around this time in the match.

Getting up to speed

3rd Item-Cooldown
Thirdly you want an item with a big cooldown reduction, as Nox's cooldowns are so long, which will enable you to use your big damage abilities much more often.

Just be cool(down)

4th Item-Penetration
Buying penetration next will make your abilities hit much harder, by allowing you to shred/bypass your enemies' protections. If however you're behind at this point in the game, then buying lifesteal before penetration will help you stay in lane longer to catch up on minion farm.

More than just the tip

5th Item-Lifesteal
Buying lifesteal will give you a decent amount of sustain which will allow you stay in the action for longer.
As this item gives you sustain you can sell your Vampiric Shroud to be able to afford it, if you're at base already and just short of enough gold to buy it.

keeping topped up

Final Item-Power!
At this point in the game you should have every thing you need to fight your opponents effectively. This final item will be the pitch black icing on the cake of your enemies suffering.

afraid of the dark? You should be...

Relics
As Nox is a squishy Mage you will want Relics that help with your survivability. It is up to you what to take at level 1 and at level 12, but you generally want to have the one you think you'll need most at the start of the match.

Getting Started

Mid Game

Becoming a bully

Late game

You are the danger

Team Fighting

Play together, stay together

Summary

Nox is an underrated gem, who is a brilliant choice for mid lane. She may be quite squishy, but with her great sustain and wave clear, and incredible burst damage capability, any enemy will be wary of approaching you.

Hopefully this guide will help some of you, and encourage more people to try out Nox.

As this is my first guide I understand it's not amazing and the BBcoding can be a bit iffy, but I welcome all constructive criticism, feedback and input from anyone who wishes to leave a comment.

Any ways thanks for reading and have fun turning the lights out on your enemies.

Credit to branmuffin17, Zilby and Devampi for feedback which has helped significantly improve this guide, and special thanks to Janitsu for the PizzaNox artwork.

Further updates coming soon...

This has just been a quick update to make the guide appropriate to season 3, but I will likely do further updates once the season 3 meta has started to settle, and it becomes clearer what items and tactics are better/more appropriate.

dunno if this is outdated or not, but i like the Soul Stone and t1 Celestial Legion Helm start, pretty good against jungler aggression early on.

All my guides are a little outdated at the moment, I think.

Just can't find a time when I can bring myself to update them.

This is a very good build. Similar to what i would do. But I would disagree with only 1 Cooldown item. Get pen boots. Warlocks is fine. Then go Breastplate of valor into a Chronos Pendant. Then a shard. Then Rod. I play league. Thats why i prefer a more tanky mage. Vids up on my channel Drop a like and sub.

PS

I personally think cooldown boots are pointless. Unless your mana hungry early game. Then you can get max cooldown and sell up.

Yeah, I've come to find that the season 3 changes to penetration have really hurt Nox in the damage department, so I tend to build her a little tankier than my recommended build on this guide.

I now usually build
Cooldown boots, warlock's, Chronos/breastplate/spirit robe (depending on what I need), spear/shard/void stone (again depending what I need), Pythag (cos I like lifesteal on Nox), and either tahuti or desolation to finish.

I'll update the guide soon, to reflect this, but I'm a little busy at the moment.

Anyways, thanks for the feedback!

When to use your Dash
When you need to escape, or reposition yourself quickly.

How's that? ;)
The reason I don't really explain into it much is because 99% of the time you'll be using it to escape or reposition.
Fair enough it is a very diverse skill, so I may add in a bit of detail about other ways you can use it, but using it for anything other than escaping or repositioning leaves you VERY vulnerable for the duration of its cooldown, so it's something you need to know in your gut when to commit to, so by not explaining I thought it would allow people to build that instinct of when to use it offensively by themself.
Does that make sense?

Anyways cheers for the feedback, I hope you give Nox a spin!

Also I could give you a few tips on BBcoding if you want, just send me a message!

This is a really good guide! I don't play Nox at all but this should help me out with the basics of playing her. You BB coding is WAY better than mine. I would recommend to put more into the abilities section like "when should I use my dash". I say this most because Nox's dash has so many purposes besides just escaping. But great guide and way and keep up the good work!

I'm having with nox builds and would be a big help for me. I recently started smit two month but picked up noxs after about a few weeks. I get wins here and there but since I'm doing a team I want to improve on that game.

Then I use warlock stash and then into spear of the Magnus then to rod of tahuli then final bancrGifts talon or obsidian shard.

I hope my guide can help you improve to a level you're happy with.

As a general rule - I wouldn't build Breastplate of Valor first unless you are against a physical God in lane (which is very rare for nox). If you're against another Mage then the Defense from breastplate will not help you against them.
Against a Mage you're better off building into warlock's saah first for the extra health, which will help you against them, then start building your Shoes of Focus.
Or you could build the shoes then the sash, if you want your cooldown before your health.

Hope that makes sense, and you find it helpful

Yeah Im not sure of the maths on the extra penetration and whatnot, but I do tend to find myself killing people in 1 combo more often when I build pen boots over cooldown, and then buy Pythagorem's Piece to supplement my cooldown later on.

And if you read through the comments on this guide you'll find a bunch of BBcoding tips that some of the users gave me, which would probably be useful to you too.

Thanks for the feedback :)

Hmmm this doesn't differ too much from the way I myself build nox which is good to see since I hadn't looked at any guides just yet. Loved her before the re kit but couldn't play her at all. Recently tried her again and have gotten some major killing sprees. Granted I play arena 80% of the time. But I never build the pen boots... Honestly think I should just to see cause I'm usually just shy of maybe 100 damage in one combo-ing people. But I'm not the greatest as landing her skill shots all the time so I sorta rely on that CDR. Anyhow great guide. I'll definitely be taking notes on how to improve the first one I recently wrote. I knew mine didn't look very appealing without any of the fancy pictures of what not haha definitely need to figure out the coding. Upvote for sure
