Achilles's Skill Order Notes Sometimes I like to stagger the leveling between the Shield of Achilles and Radiant Glory to get the % increased damage which puts more damage out through scaling on the Shield of Achilles and Combat Dodge.

Either way works as long as you max Combat Dodge first and Fatal Strike last.

QUICK NOTE

For Achilles' passive, Gift of the Gods, in Solo start the game with it in damage stance and only change to defence once you purchase Heartseeker.
In Joust start the game in damage stance and only change to defence once you purchase caduceus shield, unless you are playing double tank in which case change to defence once you purchase Heartseeker.

Also the item section of this build needs to be rewritten so do not take information from it for in game use.

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to my guide for Achilles, Hero of the Trojan War!
My name is Big Damage. I am a dedicated Smite fan and spend most of my time playing Ranked Conquest, Ranked Joust and some Assault. In Conquest I mostly enjoy playing Solo and Support, however this build is just for Achilles in Solo and Joust.
This is my 5th SmiteFire guide, and constructive criticism is always welcome. Before I start I would like to add credits to Zilby and Mowen for the templates and notes on how to implement bbcode, this guide would not be possible without it!

Without further ado, onto the guide!

PROS AND CONS

Pros:
  • Easy to hit abilities with high damamge
  • Execute is always a welcome bonus
  • Great sustain
  • Passive offers almost an entire extra defence or damage item late game
Cons:

WHAT TO BUY, WHY AND WHEN

This section of the build needs to be rewritten so do not take information from it for in game use.

In this section I will go over what items are strong on Achilles, why they are useful and when to purchase them

Item 1
Gladiator's Shield

A generally core for most Solo laners and Warriors in general, especially for Achilless due to Gladiator's Shield heals procs from hitting enemies with abilities, which synergises with Radiant Glory which also heals you for hitting enemies. This sustain is what will keep you as a menace in lane all the way through to the late game. The earlier this is purchased the better because of the passive and base stats falling off late game.
Item 2
Void Shield

What you will find with most of the item choices for Achilles is that they synergise with Radiant Glory, and Void Shield is no different. Physical power and protection for Radiant Glory to work with and the penetration for constantly hitting those abilities while Radiant Glory is active should help you snowball any laning phase. Although I suggest picking this up early against a physical lane opponent, you can pick this up any time in the game it will be useful.
Item 3
caduceus shieldCaduceus Shield

Since it's release, caduceus shield has been one of my favourite items, and even more so on Achilles. Like I have stated for the previous items this synergises really well with Radiant Glory, physical power, physical protections and magical protections for the ability to scale on it's percentages PLUS up to 25% increased healing which you will be doing while it's active. Don't overlook this item, I would always pick this up as you have purchased your core needed items such as Gladiator's Shield, Warrior Tabi and a physical protection item such as Void Shield.
Item 4
Masamune

This is an interesting choice, usually in a build like this I would purchase Hide of the Urchin or Gauntlet of Thebes to get some extra protections for the late game, however, Gift of the Gods offers you that bonus in protections for the late game, sure you could go extra tanky but it is really not necessary and the damage stance of it falls off pretty hard late game. This is where Masamune comes in, it actually gives better stats than the damage stance late game so instead of building a protections and health item such as the 2 previously stated and sticking in damage stance switch over and purchase this for a more efficient power and protection statistic, it's also nice not to have to stack it too. This should definitely be picked up later in the build once other items have been bought, maybe a suitable Warrior Tabi replacement in most scenarios.

ABILITIES AND COMBOS

Passive - Gift of the Gods
A simple, yet useful passive. While in the fountain you can use an auto attack to switch between a stance with power and movement speed, or a stance with protections and health. Unless you are playing him in the Jungle, the power is more effective early game making your autos hit super hard for the first couple of levels. Late game the protections are better suited for team fighting and are more useful than the early game, so be sure not to forget about while you're playing!

1 - Shield of Achilles
When boxing your main goal while comboing abilities repeatedly is to keep landing this stun, it does the most damage up close (stun range) and can set up hits from Combat Dodge or Fatal Strike with ease. There isn't anything special about it, aside from it being the only CC in Achilles' kit.

2 - Radiant Glory
I would consider this one of the most bloated abilities in the game, an percentage increase of power and protections on your hybrid build along with CCR and heals for each enemy hit while active is insane. This can keep you alive and keep getting you kills throughout the duration of the game, to take full advantage of it try to build as many hybrid items as you can.

3 - Combat Dodge
Generally, Achilles' strength doesn't come from crazy hitting abilities, it's the persistence of his presence. He can stay in a fight longer than most, and with Combat Dodge he gets 2 dashes and 2 ability hits in one ability slot, allowing an extra hitting ability to make up for the 2 not doing damage in itself is great. Mastering this ability is the most important part of his kit, being able to dodge abilities from any direction and doing the most damage with (technically) a single ability.

4 / Ultimate - Fatal Strike
The cherry on top of Achilles' kit, a CC immune dash with an execute threshold. Yes it is exactly as annoying to play against as it sounds, did I also forget to mention that killing an enemy with this ability allows you to use it again? If you have an enemy team of 5 people below the threshold you can execute all 5 of them. Of course an ability this powerful has it's drawbacks, on top of being able to use the ability again each time you use it you take 10% more damage until the ability goes on cooldown, so up to 50%. However this does not matter, if their team is dead then there is no one to take advantage of this literally Achilles' Heel.

Combos

This is your standard combo for dealing damage with you first 3 abilities, you can dash first with Combat Dodge before activating Radiant Glory if you want an extra second or so of the timer. You dash in, you stun, you hit them again, rinse and repeat until they're dead.

Enemy low on health? Close the distance with Combat Dodge, stun them with Shield of Achilles and finish them off with the Fatal Strike. You should only use this when you are certain that the enemy is going to be below the threshold or when you need to close the distance on an enemy.

Blink Rune and Radiant Glory are interchangeable here, this is a slightly trickier combo, but jumping on an enemy with a stun can really surprise them, and even set your team up to hit them with their own abilities. You can follow up by chasing them with Combat Dodge and finish with Fatal Strike if they are below the threshold.

GAMEPLAY AND TEAMPLAY

This part of the guide will cover what to do at different stages of a Conquest match, and how you should play as part of a team to win the game

Early Game / Laning Phase
For the first couple levels, wave clear is not Achilles' strongest point, however with his passive selected into the power stance his auto attacks really hurt. Use this to your advantage and try to save your abilities for the wave until around level 8 and keep poking with your autos.

Mid Game / "Skirmish" Fighting
You become quit the menace once you start to rotate into the mid lane, with Fatal Strike you can catch their mid or jungle off guard with a rotation and secure some kills to help your team push the mid tower, Gold Fury or Pyromancer.

Late Game / Teamfighting
The damage Achilles has been dealing falls of slightly late game, however with Heartseeker you can still pack a punch onto the enemies damage dealers. Use Blink Rune and your Combat Dodge to dive their back line and push objectives such as Phoenixes and the Fire Giant to win the game.

SUMMARY // CONCLUSION

Achilles loves to be the centre of attention, and when you're diving onto their midlaner I'm fairly certain that wont be a problem. Achilles has a powerful yet still fun kit and will always be a force to be reckoned with in the Solo lane, I hope this build was useful, thank you for reading!

Question, is Hydras Lament good as an alternative for the main build?
1
Kriega1 (143) | January 31, 2020 8:47am
You can get Hydra's as a boots replacement or run it if you're going a more hybrid build, but since Achilles' minor damage nerfs and the nerf to Hydra's and the change/nerf to Void Shield I would prioritise something like Brawler's or Heartseeker instead.

Branmuffin17 (394) | January 30, 2020 1:23pm
I'm not Big damage (the build creator), but I would say that, at least for Achilles in solo and in consideration with the main build, no, I wouldn't invest into Hydra's Lament. Keep in mind that 1, the item got a slight nerf on the passive damage bonus. 2, the bonus damage is physical damage and subject to mitigations. This build does not add any penetration and is a pretty straightforward tank build, so the Hydra's damage isn't going to do as much for you. It's better suited if you play him in the Jungle, or in a teamfight mode where you build him more bruiser with more offensive focus.

As for the main build itself, Big damage, I don't know that I feel Caduceus Shield is a proper fit for him. It might be functional in specific cases where his team has multiple healers and he can help them get bonus healing when he's near them. However, his own heal isn't significant enough IMO to warrant that item over other options you can get. Perhaps I'm underestimating Caduceus or his own heal.

Before Season 7 changes I saw Fineokay build Hydra's on Achilles solo (running some hybrid/bruiser build). It used to function well with Achilles pre-S7 nerfs and with old Void Shield but I can see it being a lower priority damage item in Solo now compared to Brawler's or Heartseeker.

Big Damage (37) | January 31, 2020 8:22am
Yes I agree, the heal increase isn't as useful on Achilles' 2, however having a percentage increase to essentially counter the enemies counter healing on nearby allies to a certain degree, along with dual protections and power synergising with his 2s percentage increases works very well.

Thanks, I just was testing the build and I tried putting on some more damage items and found that Hydra was good if combined with the dash and lunge, but yeah what you said makes sense.
