Introduction

Hello everyone, This is the first guide i have ever tried to make so please is you see any improvements i can make let me know.
I would have to say that this is now my favorite god just for the fact he can become a dragon. Come on who wouldn't love to have that ability.
For this guide i will be trying to aim for a balanced build between tank'y and damage.

Item build

As said in all guides this is just one man's opinion of what works so far for him.
I start the match buying only a starter item and a trinket so that i have around 700 Gold to power Endless Greed. I try not to go back to base until i have at least 2500 gold so that i can buy Shoes of Focus. Having that amount when i go back gives me 1000 gold to spare to keep Endless Greed at max. from that point on the order in witch you buy your items depends on how you and your teammates are doing in the match. One rule i try to follow when playing this god is to try to always keep Endless Greed at 700 gold - 1000 max gold. I know it is hard to do, I catch myself going oh i can buy something to start my next item, but in reality you are just hurting yourself by doing that.

Skills

This skill i use to stun opponents that are trying to chase down and kill allies.
another use for this is if you have someone like Ares if you you see him using his No Escape wait tell he pulls all of the gods in and use Cursed Strength when you hit a god with it every enemy god around that one gets slowed making it harder to get away from his Searing Flesh or any other AOE your team might have.

When in Dragonic Corruption Cursed Strength is a even better tool for you to use, it has a magical protection shred up to 40% at max level. With Void Stone you will see there health just steadily decrease with your basic attacks.

This is a HUGE buff for a hunter or assassin class. The attack speed buff alone is nice on it but on top of that you give them a damage buff too.
your ADC will become your best friend. One Nice part of this skill is that it Heal's you when you use it, if i find myself alone and in to deep i use it on my self for the heal so i can hopefully ether kill someone or get away.

When in Dragonic Corruption Coerce changes from a single target buff to a AOE buff. I always try to hit myself and multiple team members with this to help the team as much as possible.

I like to use this when I see someone like Hades is using his ultimate Pillar of Agony to disarm them, because as we all know don't try to run away from him just turn and burn him down before he finishes the ultimate.
This is a good escape tool or a good way to engage your opponents. When trying to escape or engage with this skill keep in mind that the farther away that you intended to leap the longer it takes, When you leap just in front of you it happens instantly. When escaping always remember that you can jump over walls to different areas on the map to get away.

When in Dragonic Corruption you get a few extra things with Underhanded Tactics increased range on your leap, more damage, stun the closest god that you hit for two seconds along with the disarm and toy put a DOT on them. is is a strong ability in Dragonic Corruption.

Dragonic Corruption
This skill turns Fafnir into a Dragon. there are a few things to tr to remember when using this skill first off is as soon as you use this you become invulnerable to all damage and control effects try to use this to your advantage. The second is it has a AOE DOT that it places on any enemy God in the area around you when the change is complete.
The DOT it self can be very Damaging and it ticks Three times a second, always look for the opportunity like when Hades uses his ultimate Pillar of Agony or Ares uses No Escape. Always be aware of the time that you have left on your transformation. You do not want to be stuck around the Enemy God's when you change back, unlike when you change into the Dragon you can and will take damage if anyone is around you. It is so easy to get caryed away (I'm a dragon must kill everything) and have this happen to you. one way to help keep a eye on the timer is about to run out is that you will start to flash Yellow, when you see this ether try to get to a safe place to change or hope you team is right there with you to help you out. The last thing to try to remember is when you use Dragonic Corruption to always have magic!!! I have done this before, look i'm a dragon now then you try to use a skill and are like oh no i have no magic so you loose all your control, DOT's and escape factors.

Summary

With all this being said it is important to remember that this is a Team game so no mater what God you play don't starve your team by taking all the kills. One Feed god is not grater then a team that is equal in strength.
As for Fafnir he is a Guardian so in my opinion he should be there to help the team more then out for kills. He needs to buff the team when ever he can and just cause disruption on the opposing team as much as possible for his team to pick up a kill or to get away with out any casualties. Like i stated it is a Team game and a lot of people forget, this it is about getting the win not who is the top killer. I know i have done this before in the past to without realizing it until it was to late and there was no way to win. One more thing that you must keep in mind is not to feed, you need patience and map awareness to win I know it is hard but you have to keep this in mind.

Well that is enough of my rambling for this guide if you have any comments please post them I am interested in your responses.

Thank you
Xzos

Fafnir looks like a bad *** but i don't know every time I play him. He's too squishy even if I build tanky items. I might try this out. :)

Quoted:
I start out with Watcher's Gift. I know this dose not synergize with Book of Thoth well at all
why are you still buying them together then!!??

I know you say the extra gold from Watcher's Gift is nice, but not wasting an item slot is nicer.

It's not that these items 'don't synergize well', they are completely against each other. One requires you to kill minions, the other requires you to not kill minions. So one is always going to be a waste when using them together.

Another big issue with these items together is that if you're in support role then you'll be stealing farm from your adc to charge your Book of Thoth (making your Watcher's Gift useless as you do so). A big No-No for a support.
And if you're in solo you'll be the one clearing wave every single time, so Watcher's Gift is useless every single minion wave.

I would suggest you split your build in two.

One build for solo lane where you don't build Watcher's Gift ( Vampiric Shroud would be a decent alternative for example).

And one build for support where you don't build a minion-stacking item like Book of Thoth ( Soul Reaver would be a high power alternative, for example)

Also not buying potions at the start is a bad move.
The extra sustain from a few potions will take you much further, early game, than some passive protections you'd get from stockpiling gold at the start

Thank you for your thoughts on this. I have been trying other starting items besides Watcher's Gift i will give Vampiric Shroud another try. I end up playing a lot of arena matches and not to much of the others unfortunately, The people i play with only like arena for the most part, I would like to play more Joust and Conquest. Soul Reaver I will also try out, the only part that i see that i don't know about is the 40 second cool-down. I understand why they do this, it just seams to me that you might want something that is active at all times? I will update the Watcher's Gift part.
once again thank you for your input on this and i look forward to trying this out.

Oh ok, for arena I would suggest a couple of different items.

As it is so easy to go back to base in arena I would, for Fafnir suggest you either get Mark of the Vanguard as a starter for the survivability factor, or skip a starter completely and go straight into your main items, as things like Vampiric Shroud aren't as great, espescially for guardians, in arena due to not needing lane sustain. (Potions are still handy to have though).

As for your Soul Reaver concerns, I agree with your thinking if it's arena you're playing. In conquest or joust, for example, where it's a much more calculated mode you pick your moments more carefully so a 40sec cooldown on reaver isn't such a problem, but in arena where you're in a near constant cluster**** it's not so effective, espescially for Fafnir.
Due to the near constant teamfighting in arena Gem of Isolation would be a great alternative, as it allows you to impair the enemy team with slows, and you can essentially 'give' teammates the gem passive when you buff them with Coerce too.

Now I don't play a lot of arena, so some other guys on the site may be able to give you some better advice, but this is my advice from my arena experience. Hope it helps
