Anubis - Death Incarnate (Patch 1.0.2436)

Introduction

This build centers around heavy farming and assassination. We will be managing our mana while rapidly farming with Cone of Locusts and Grasping Hands. Do not leave yourself without any survivability by spilling all your mana, if the enemy jumps on you and you cant fight him off you'll need your Mummify or an active to stop them. You'll use your Grasping Hands -> Mummify -> Death Gaze combination to assassinate enemies. If you get really ahead your Grasping Hands -> Mummify -> Plague of Locusts can finish off an enemy on its own.

Now remember, this is a guide! You're not only free to make personal changes but I encourage it. Some people will play better with different styles.

Still very much a work in progress. I will try to read all comments and will take anything you say into consideration even if I don't reply.

PROS
  • Huge damage potential.
  • One of the best farmers in the game.
  • Good crowd control if used properly.
  • One of the best 1v1 gods.
  • Scales like a god... well in this case more than a god.

CONS
SOON
  • Detailed description of every item, what it does, and when to get it.
  • A list of lane opponents and lane partners, how to play with them, and how effective they are.

Skills

Sorrow

All of Anubis' abilities steal Physical and Magical Resistances from their target. This works especially well considering all of his damaging abilities do damage per tick.

This passive also grants Anubis' an additional 30% reduction to all to all crowd control reductions, however this does not stack with Resolve.

Plague of Locusts

Your second most damaging ability, the reason I do not level this first is because this guide does not focus on being very powerful early on. Due to this, I prefer to use Grasping Hands for safe farming and harassing. This is a short to mid range cone damaging ability.

Mummify

A single-target stun. You should use it to attack, escape, and most importantly hold them still for your ultimate Death Gaze. This is a single-target skill-shot stun.

Grasping Hands

This is your most important ability early game. Does not deal as much damage as Plague of Locusts, but gives you more utility, harass, and zoning early game. Can help you escape if placed properly. This is a ranged AoE damaging slow.

Death Gaze

This is what Anubis is famous (or maybe infamous) for. This devastating ability will aim in whatever direction you are looking at. Enemies will try to avoid your gaze so you want to Mummify your target so they can't run around. 70ft range.

Items

Healing Potion & Mana Potion

At the start of the game we will have enough gold for three potions. It is your decision on how many of which to buy. I prefer two Healing Potion and one Mana Potion. If you find yourself having health or mana issues later in the game feel free to buy a few.

Shoes of the Magi

Shoes of the Magi grants you Magical Power, Mana, Magical Penetration, and of course Movement Speed. The decision to upgrade from Shoes to Magic Shoes or Shoes of the Magi varies from game to game. Ideally I plan to get them after Book of Thoth.

You can upgrade your Shoes earlier if you need the additional Movement Speed or Magic Penetration if they're stacking Magical Protection early.

Warlock's Sash & Doom Orb & Book of Thoth

These items are your bread and butter, snowballing. The order in which you pick these up is dependent on your situation but grabbing Warlock's Sash before Book of Thoth is generally better because it takes longer to stack.

Adding Doom Orb into the equation is a high risk high reward move considering half your stacks are lost on death. However, Anubis has amazing wave clear and can re-stack it extremely fast. I would only recommend getting Doom Orb if you're ahead and are very confident you can hold onto that lead.

The reason Book of Thoth is amazing on Anubis is because he has one of the highest base mana pools in the game and nearly all of his viable items provide additional mana.

Rod of Tahuti

This item will give us additional Magical Power and MP5, but most importantly it increases Magical Power by 25%. With the stacks you have earned from your items, your abilities should now have very high damage capable of destroying most enemies with one ability rotation.

Gem of Isolation

More Magical Power, Health, and Mana. The special trait of this item is that nemies hit by your damaging abilities will move 25% slower for 2 seconds. Your Plague of Locusts, Grasping Hands, and Death Gaze will all strongly benefit from this.

Obsidian Shard

More Magical Power and Magical Penetration so that we can rip through our enemies even more effectively.

Void Stone

This item gives us Magical Power and Magical Protection and at tier three it grants us an aura that reduces the Magical Protection of enemies within 55 feet. You should pick this up if you need the Magical Protection and/or the reduced Magical Protection of enemies.

Examples of Purchase Order Changes

EXAMPLE ONE

You have completed your Shoes of the Magi, Warlock's Sash, Book of Thoth, and Rod of Tahuti. You would normally build Gem of Isolation, however the enemy has bought a lot of Magic Resistance. In this situation you may want to opt for the Obsidian Shard or another Magical Penetration item.

EXAMPLE TWO

Just like the above example, you've completed all the way up to your Rod of Tahuti. You're dominating. Every time you catch someone they instantly die. So wait... we don't need a Gem of Isolation. You know what that means? Grab the Obsidian Shard or even more Magical Power.

These are the builds that I've been using since I've started playing Anubis. A minor critique on the guide, if you plan on maxing out an item before buying another item, just place the item up there once. This frees up some space for adding in your lvl 1 pots (I'm assuming you grab 2-5 pots).

That's completely your decision, if it's different then you should leave it up, some people might prefer the difference.

I think I'm going to keep it the way it is until Smitefire changes their purchase orders to better fit Smite (different levels of items, etc), but thanks for the input.

Guide Revieeeeeeewwwww1!!!11one1111!!!!

PROS
-Best use of of those giant icons that I've seen so far.
-The layout is amazing.
-Some variety in build, not much, but still some.
-Grammar and spelling is spot-on.

CONS
-Misleadingly short. I honestly thought this was a massive guide at first glance.
-Not enought depth in everything in my opinion.

POSSIBLE IMPROVEMENTS
There's only one flaw in this guide, but it is a major one. NOT ENOUGH DEPTH AND CHAPTERS. This guide doesn't have enough. This guide is very close to the bare minimum of what is needed in a guide. But for what it does, it does well. Just more information for you specific items and abilities.

FINAL VERDICT
This guide is pretty good, for what it has. It does everything well, and I reckon it deserves a 7/10 which is a +1.
