1v1 joust is all about the matchup and counterbuilding against the enemy. Because its not a balanced mode like conquest, there are some gods that will almost always do better than others (eg: Chronos will almost always beat a Sylvanus). While I don't usually encourage paying too much attention to tier lists, 1v1 joust is really a gametype in which they're pretty accurate. A good up-to-date tier list is here. I would recommend against choosing any gods B or below if you want to have a good shot at winning. Aside from that, try to find the god you're best at A or above. You can then use this site to see who they're good and bad against and use that combined with the tier list to help you determine who to ban.
