Introduction (UNFINISHED GUIDE)

Hi and welcome to my guide!

In this guide I will try to explain the basics of the god 'Agni' to you. Also I offer you some builds you can use. I made three builds, use them in different situations; every game is different and requires different builds. With these three builds you get an idea what some possible builds are.

I hope you enjoy reading this guide and get some wins with the builds and the guide and have some fun with them!

Remember why you play Smite, for fun.

- Sincerely Boerat

About me and validity

So when I look at a guides, I want to be able to trust them and know that the person who made them knows what he is talking about.
In this case I can fairly say you can trust this guide and I am very open to feedback on the guide itself.
I don't have some legendary agni or play him at a pro level, but I have played him ALOT. I probably would have a legendary Agni but I played him before that system even got implemented in Smite.
I played Smite almost from release with some breaks inbetween here and there.

Recent changes to agni

One of the main reasons I started this guide is because recently agni got some very nice updates and love from Hi-rez. They reworked his model, HUD and reworked his damage and delay numbers.

Due to the recent changes to agni he was underperforming and his basic gameplay was hurt alot.

The changes

Hi-rez tweaked agni because he was considered Over Powered (OP) for a good time. He was banned or picked almost every game in ranked and tournaments.
So Hi-rez decided that he needed some nerfing and changing.

The first patch contained some tweaks to his casting time and a nerf to the damage from his ult.
You can find this patch here:
Agni's first changes patch

Noxious Fumes
Casting time increased from 0 to 0.3.
Recovery time reduced from 0.2 to 0.1.

Flame Wave
Recovery time reduced from 0.5 to 0.1.

Rain Fire
Recovery time reduced from 0.7 to 0.6.
Damage reduced from 175/215/255/295/335 to 160/195/230/265/300.

As you can see noxious fumes went from 0 casting time to 0.3. This made it so nobody could land his basic combo of firing a metor and placing fumes under it before the metor lands.

After this patch agni was underperforming as told so they tweaked his numbers again together with the rework:
Second Agni patchnotes

Agnis model, animations, 2D Art, and FX have all been updated.
Agnis passive meter has been updated include a timer indicating how many seconds until your next meteor becomes available.

Rain of Fire (ult)
Recovery time reduced from 0.6 to 0.4. Should help higher ping players be able to place Noxious Fumes down in time after using Rain Fire.
Fixed an issue where firing multiple meteors would skip animations.

So after this patch everyone can land the ult into fumes combo again and agni is in my opinion one of the best mages again.

They also removed his cool moonwalking, except on his volcanic skin!

The builds

Like most of the gods in Smite you can build Agni in a couple of different ways. With the recent changes to items I consider the following items most valuable on Agni:

The Standard items

Vampiric Shroud
This item is a very nice starting item. It gives you some decent Magic Power (MP) some nice health for the early game and some mana regen to be able to use your abilities a bit more. The passive on this item also helps you to stay in lane in the early game.
Sell this item later on in the mid-late game so you can get your other items quicker.

Bancrofts Talon
Just get level one of this item to start with. This item is very cheap and it gives you some MP and magic lifesteal. Magic lifesteal helps you to stay in lane early.
If you bought this item at the start, FINISH IT AFTER FOCUSED VOIDSTONE OR SELL IT EARLY.

Health pots
Get three HP pots at the start. This gives you a start with only 10 gold left, so this start is very effici«nt and should give you a strong early game.
With these pots you can stay in lane easily until level 5, after level 5 clearing a wave is the easiest thing in the world and its free (ult costs no mana)

Magic boots
At your first back you should be able to buy level 2 or level 3 cooldown boots.
These boots are just so nice, they give you 50 MP which is very decent, 250 mana so you can use your abilities more without running out, 21% movementspeed (ms) which you need to keep up with enemies and makese you just WAY more mobile. Last but not least this gives you 15% Cooldown reduction(CDR)! Combined with breastplate you'll have the maximum of 40% CDR.

Focused Voidstone
After you finished boots get this item asap. It gives you everything you need in midlane. You are probably fighting another mage in mid so you need some Magic Defense, here you go 50 MD. Also you are a mage yourself man! You need some Magic Power, here you go 40 MP.
Also because you went CDR boots you might lack a bit of magic penetartion, well this gives you 25 magic penetration which is 10 more than the other boots.
Overall beastly item which was hit by the nerfhammer a couple of times already.

Obsidian shard
When you are building this the game is already going for a while, you are owning and killing people. So people are building some MD, probably. When they are doing this get this item. It gives you 70 MP and 33% magic penetration. Notice this is a percentage not a flat amount. When a tank has 200 MD you'll be penetration 60 MD of that. Good luck finding an item with 100 MD. This combined with the flat penetration of Focused Voidstone means you'll be hitting that tank like he has 115 MD. Just realise what this does to squishy targets. Someone with 90 MD will be left with 35 MD!

Rod of Tahuti
Now that you have alot of Magic Power this item will be very effici«nt. This gives you 125 MP but also when you finish it the passive increase your MP by 25%. For this to be effici«nt you need some MP first, so thats why we don't rush it. You could buy this before Obsidian if they have like no MD.

Breastplate
A very good item. This item gives you tons of Physical Defense and 25% CDR. You can build this item anywhere in the build when you find it necessary. The earliest I would build this is probably after Focused Voidstone or after I finished Bancrofts. If you are dieing alot to enemy physical gods its probably a good idea to get this item. If you are just owning the enemy team and you are not dieing at all you can just get this as 5th or 6th item for the extra CDR.

Spear of the magus
This is a very good item on Agni if you you it right. The passive of magus actually procs of you passive as agni and you path of flame. Also this helps your team out, if you have a mage in the solo lane and a MP tank this is, i would say, almost a must buy.
Get this in place of obsidian.

- Credit to Spooh, midlaner of Team Coast. I talked about this item with him, also Build #4 is basically the agni build he told me he would run normally.

Polynomicon
Poly is a very good item now on agni. They changed it a while back so that every meteor procs a poly stack. This item just gives you some extra burst you might need.
Get this in place of bancrofts or as last item.

Optional items

Divine ruin
Get this item if you are versus a hel or ra. With the recent buffs to this item it is actually a very good item versus healers. Hirez found that healers were overperfoming in Smite so they buffed this item together with Brawlers beatstick.

Gem of isolation
This is a very nice item to buy when your team doesn't have alot of cc. You can slow people with your meteors or lay down a path of slowing flames. Overall you don't really need the 250 hp or 250mana you get so that's why this isn't a core item.

Actives

Beads
Always a good pickup. Lets you cleanse all CC and be immune for CC 3 seconds, it also decreases all your cooldowns instantly by 5 seconds. Need to dash or you die but you have 5 seconds left on the cooldown? Beads my friend.
This item is already good at level 1 because you can outplay any mid god who relies on his cc.
For example: Isis stuns/silences you? You beads and turn on her.

Combat Blink
A nice item to have. In the earlier stages you can just use it to get to lane faster or to take midharpies quickly. Lategame you'll probably be focused down alot and having a combatblink and your dash makes you almost unkillable.

Aegis Pendant
You can use this to be invurnable for 2 seconds and it also decreases all the damage you take afterwards by 20% for 4 seconds.
This is nice to avoid alot of incoming damage. Do you know they are going to oneshot you? You aegis and walk away. The only problem with this is that you can't use it while you are stunned or cc'd.

Aegis amulet
I tend to get this item more often than his counterpart. Most of the time you'll get cc'd and then the damage will come. For example, ra is not gona hit his ult on you whithout someone cc'ing you. Another example is when plaing vs anubis. He bandages you? Just use this ability and ignore all the damage he would do to you and dash away. Easy.

Generally speaking, Spear of the Magus is 99% of the time better on Agni than Obsidian Shard. Why? because the god of fire has lots of ticks and dots that can apply the passive on Spear of the Magus, and it's actually better than Obsidian Shard up until enemies with 208 magical protection.

I don't think that going 100% CDR on Agni is the best choice, though I'm no Agni expert. I would say this though, you have listen 4 builds, and they are roughly the same. Actually, the first two builds are identical, the only difference being the purchase order of 2 items.

As for polynomcion, I don't really like it. Agni is the god with the most spells in the game, considering that you treat his ult as three different spells. Rarely will you find yourself not having an ability ready to go with him, especially if you build so much CDR and sacrificing lots of power for that CDR, so Poly loses it's effectiveness.

And I know that in the actual skill explanation under the build in the actual guide you noted some situational items like Gem of Isolation (which I think should be a core item) or Divine Ruin, but you must put them in the build up to as well. It's easy to miss, especially for people who don't go super in-depth into guide and just look at the builds (I know that this guide isn't long or in-depth, to say the least, but still...)

I don't find Combat Blink that useful on Agni, as you have a dash. The only real time in which it would be useful is against Odin, and even then, I think that there are better choices.

Other than explaining some items, you do not explain anything else. Really.. I mean, what about skills? they are crucial. Skills are a very basic thing in guides, and your actual skill-sequence is wrong. You'd want to start with path of flame 100% of the times. It's better early game for clearing waves. Then prioritize Flame Wave and start leveling it up. And even so, you do no explain one bit about the actual skills, and how to use them, and especially on Agni, it's vital to explain how to use certain skills in conjunction.

You do not explain your role in team fights, how to play him, how to farm, how to... anything! there isn't even a pros & cons section. And the BB coding is rather... awkward.

While this guide is 'work-in-progress', I don't see why you've published it. I don't see any reason for people publishing WIP guides like THAT. They completely lack info, and they are more 'start-in=progress' than 'work-in-progress'.

I'm sorry for the harsh criticism, but... this guide is bad..

okay then... that was unintentional... great! how come this guide only has 1 vote? I hate it when I see a guide with x amount of comments and less votes. It makes no sense (unless the comment is about waiting for a guide-update and then voting)

That's not really what happened. It was just how you explained it. It was like one of those movie lines where they purposely make it confusing to add humor. It was great.

Yeah I tend to be repetitive and express what I think multiple times....

This. This right here was so ridiculous to read. That I read it at least 50 times before I got over just how ridiculous it was to read.
