Ratatoskr himself is a very weak god. His damage is very minimal now, but he does have some positives to his kit, specifically his passive. Even though it is a double edged sword, taking up one of his item slots, he can purchase his acorn outside of the well, and half of the acorns are viable.
He took a huge downfall since his debut, however he is still a good god in conquest, though only in conquest. When it comes to Joust, where I had been testing him around, he can be very strong if he can make it to mid-game without any problems. His poke is very good and he has insane mobility as well. He also starts off with a fairly good auto-attack speed, making him really only need one auto-attack item.
Despite his auto-attack speed and mobility, however, his power is total garbage. Hence why he has to build up Transcendence. Transcendence gives the most power out of any physical item, therefore he really only needs to get that to max stacks for his crits to make any difference.
Opal is arguably his strongest acorn, aside from potentially Sapphire. It provides Ratatoskr's Dart ability with a wider hitbox, the ability to have dart proc crits and other item abilities, and it gives him a third dash after two successive hits with the ability. However, the acorns are kind of expensive so you will have to pray for some extra gold to come your way through kills or an early tower to finish your Passive.
Ratatoskr is that god where no build for him is viable if you don't know what you're doing. You can take this build into casuals all you want, but if you can't Rat, you can't make this build efficient.
The core is very simple, you start without any boots which is a strange start for nearly any character. However, with Ratatoskr's high mobility, the first 1500 gold can be used to get you closer to your power and your acorn.
After you finish your Transcendence, you can build either of the Tabi items if you don't like moving so slow any more, or you can build up your Opal Acorn if you're fine with just getting by via ult and dart. Which Tabi you choose is up to you. If you don't build Ninja Tabi, build up an attack speed item for your last item.
Now because of Ratatoskr's low damage output, you're going to need some critical hits if you want to put out any significant damage. Without any type of critical hits, Ratatoskr can't do any single thing to make him useful to the team. He shouldn't build Malice because the item isn't very useful for Ratatoskr. It adds extra poke, but it doesn't do anything for his damage, unlike Deathbringer. Rage is there because every 5 hits is almost a guaranteed crit.
The last item on the build is situational. If you need penetration, get Titan's Bane if you bought Ninja Tabi, otherwise get executioner for the extra Attack Speed. If you don't think you need the pen, get something to help you stick to the opponent. If you find yourself getting burst down, build something defensive. If you see a healer, just to keep yourself from falling off, you have to build Brawler's Beat Stick.
PROS:
You'll be relying on elementals A FRACK TON until you get to level 5. At this point, you can most likely take any camps on your own and ganking lanes becomes really easy due to your ult. And with Rat relying so much on his build, you have to take camps for quite a long time just to get the build you need. Take any and all camps. His early game is very weak and he gets to mid game so slowly compared to most other jungling gods. If you feel like you need to pick up Bumba's Mask at the beginning for that extra gold, go ahead and digress getting Yellow Acorn. To get yourself off the ground, try and secure kills from lanes that are slipping away by using your high mobility.
Though Ratatoskr is highly fun, he has a lot of problems you need to overcome. Though his acorn takes up an item slot, it makes him unique, and if you build the right acorn, then you can do lots of shenanigans. You also have to deal with his low damage output and the fact that you're the weakest assassin in the game.
If you like a god to have fun with or if you like a highly agile and annoying harassment character, Ratatoskr is the god for you for Season 3.
