Introduction

This is Awejake20's chronos guide. I reached as high as 4th on the leaderboard last split with him, so hopefully I know what I'm talking about. Chronos is a versatile god that can play every role except support, and is my favorite god to play. Here I will go over his skill set ad why I use the builds above.

Skills

Time Rift: This is his main damaging ability, which comes with a very short cool down but a small AOE. I level this move first, but not at level 1 because it is easier for me to clear wave at this level with his 3.

Accelerate: This ability gives chronos increased attack and movement speed over 7 seconds, which allows him to be effective at jungle and adc. Plus, activating this ability stops his passive wheel on 1 of 4 quadrants, giving chronos a different buff at each quadrant. Quad I gives increased healing, giving him great sustain and eliminating the need for major lifesteal such as Bancroft's talon or typhon's fang. Quad II gives a full mana refund on his abilities, further improving his sustain. This should be used before every wave clear to conserve mana. Quad III gives 25% increased magical power, and should be used to initiate attacks. Quad IV gives 35% increased power for basic attacks only, and should be used when attacking structures or initiating attacks when playing as ADD.

Stop Time: This move provides a line of damage that also stuns. I prefer this move to clear wave at level 1 because it hits the whole wave, but you can level this or his 1 first. An extremely useful move that can turn the tide in team fights.

Rewind: His ult returns him to his health and position 8 seconds ago, and is great for escaping, immuning out of a crowd control ult, or regaining the upper hand in a fight. I level this last, because doing so only decreases the cool down.

Early Game

Chronos is weak the first couple of levels before he gets his 2. It is very important to play passively and not engage the enemy here, as his abilities do little damage and his 3 has a very high cool down. Once you get his 2, it is much easier to clear wave. Stop on quadrant II, then use his 3 on the whole wave and his 1 to finish it off. I typically buy potions to survive these first 3 levels, then you can use his passive to sustain after that.

Mid/Solo Roles

These roles are played very similarly with chronos. You start to be able to clear wave easily, and at this point you can use his naturally high movement speed to rotate and gank. Use his 1 to poke enemy gods in between waves, or while melee gods are busy clearing wave. Use his 3 to stun enemies who are bold enough to attack you. His passive will provide sustain.

Carry Role

With quadrant IV of his passive, chronos can deal a great amount of basic attack damage at a high attack speed. In this role, your main focus should be initiating with quad IV instead of III, and dealing damage through auto attack instead of abilities. Don't be afraid to use them though.

Jungle Role

The high movement speed created by his 2 makes him able to move through the jungle probably faster than anyone in the game. Here, you should use quad III in the jungle and hit enemies with the stun to initiate the tank. And if you ever run into a sticky situation, you can just ult away.

Item Choices

Blessing: Mages Blessing should be the main starter item, but hunters blessing should be used at adc and assassins when jungling.

Boots: I typically go purple boots for the penetration, but another option is to go blue boots for early CDR and switch them later for purple. Traveler's shoes could be good for jungling, but not necessary.

Chronos Pendant: I get this item second because chronos is much more effective with low cool downs. The cool downs are very high on his 2 and 3, and these builds still do massive damage while giving you your moves back fast.

Spear of Desolation: This is a great item that provides power, penetration, and CDR. What more could you ask for.

Polynomicon: This is a staple item on chronos. Once you get enough power in the first three items, you can add in a polynomicon proc in between all three moves in his combo, which will do hundreds of damage on top of you're already high ability damage.

Obsidian Shard: with penetration that scales with protections, this item allows you to completely shred enemy tanks and non tanks.

Demonic Grip: This replaces obsidian shard for adc. It still provides penetration, but does so in a manner more conducive to auto attack damage.

Rod of Tehuti: This item simply tops off your build with a whopping 150 magical power.

Relics: I typically go some combination of aegis, beads, or teleport. Aegis can protect you from a burst damage ult until you can ult away. Beads are useful if the enemy team has a lot of crowd controlling ults. Teleport is necessary for solo, and great for split pushing.

Late Game

No matter what my role is, during the team fighting stave I operate out of the jungle more, hitting enemies with the stun, or picking off mages that stray too far from their tanks with his combo.

Chronos also has the ability, with polynomicon and quad IV, to do insane amounts of structure damage. One option instead of team fighting late game is to split push by teleporting to a ward. By utilizing quadrant IV and the polynomicon proc, I have destroyed phoenixes in less than 10 hits. Plus, you always have your ult to escape from an enemy gank.

Summary

Chronos is super fun to use, and can be played in almost any role. Please leave comments on any changes/suggestions/updates you think I should make on this guide. These builds and strategies have worked well for me, and I hope they do for you Too:)

Actually I changed my mind, this build is fine for mid lane.

You're not allowed to change your mind, Kriega. Your word is absolute.

I can see the builds being fine, with high CDR letting you spam abilities quite a bit, and Polynomicon and Rod of Tahuti (Along with some of the other items) giving you some good split-pushing potential with these builds. However, there is a bit of a problem:

You are really squishy with all of these builds and Chronos with no health built is a Chronos that can get killed very easily, especially during the windup of his ult. I am especially concerned you don't build any health on him for solo role , which makes it easy for the enemy solo laner to bully him in lane (especially some warriors). I would separate the Solo build from the Mid Build as they shouldn't be exactly the same, and for solo role Warrior's Blessing is preferred due to the extra survivability and the fact he can proc the passive from it easily (Unless you are laning against a mage with low lane pressure, in which case Mage's Blessing is ok).

Here is what I would start for Solo:

Warrior's Blessing, Shoes, Chalice of Healing.

Then for full build I would go: Shoes of Focus, Warlock's Staff, Demonic Grip, Bancroft's Talon, Obsidian Shard, Soul Reaver.

This is a build I have found success with in solo and I have borrowed from Deathwalker (Pro Solo laner for Team Rival). If you dont favor the Bancroft's Talon then feel free to swap it for Polynomicon. And if you don't like the Demonic Grip/ Obsidian Shard combo (Which offers high tank shred) then you can swap Obsidian Shard for something like a Ethereal Staff, Chronos' Pendant, Divine Ruin, Spear of Desolation, Rod of Tahuti etc.... And I don't recommend Teleport Glyph for solo role as you usually won't get destroyed in solo lane with the build I gave, it's better to just get Aegis Amulet and Purification Beads, as you also have to keep ganks from the enemy jungler in mind.

Furthermore, my recommendation of Warlock's Staff goes towards the other roles as well. In that case I would replace your slot for Spear of Desolation for it and get it 2nd or 3rd item, where you can farm the stacks for it without it coming too late in the build. (I would get it second and then proceed to get the other item, so if I had to re-do your mid build to include it: Shoes of the Magi, Warlock's Staff, Chronos' Pendant, Demonic Grip, Polynomicon, Rod of Tahuti.

You should consider some items like Soul Reaver (especially for Mid Role), Bancroft's Talon (Great on him as he is auto-attack based and I recommend you give it a go for Chronos in ADC role) and Divine Ruin as a replacement to Spear of Desolation (if your team needs the anti-heal).

Also please do not get Obsidian Shard on Chronos on it's own anymore, it just is not good right now. You can pair it with Demonic Grip if you want, but always get Demonic Grip as a lone choice instead - especially with the upcoming buff to it. If you feel Demonic Grip is risky for other roles (which doesen't make sense as you recommended it for ADC) then I would build health - in this case being Warlock's Staff as it is a good item on Chronos currently.

Cooldown Reduction is nice on Chronos and all, but not always entirely necessary to max out as you can build him high burst or auto-attack focused, and rely on spamming Time Rift on it's low cooldown and make the most of his Accelerate when it is active. Rod of Tahuti is also no longer a core item on Chronos since the Season 5 start change to it but Chronos is one of the mages left who can still make good use of it.

But other than the recommendation to your Solo lane build changes, the rest is up to you to keep the same, but I will offer alternatives for your other roles:

Mid:

Start: Mage's Blessing, Uncommon Staff, 1 Healing Potion and 2 Mana Potions.

Build: Shoes of the Magi, Warlock's Staff, Bancroft's Talon, Divine Ruin, Demonic Grip and finish with either Chronos' Pendant or Soul Reaver. If you get Soul Reaver replace Shoes of the Magi with Shoes of Focus as well.

ADC:

Start: Mage's Blessing (or Hunter's Blessing), Tiny Trinket, 2 Healing Potions and 3 Mana Potions.

Build: Shoes of the Magi, Bancroft's Talon, Warlock's Staff, Demonic Grip, Telkhines Ring, Rod of Tahuti. (alternatively you can swap bancrofts, telkhines or rod for divine ruin or hastened ring.)

Jungle:

Start: Assassin's Blessing, Tiny Trinket, 2 x Healing Potion, 1 x Mana Potion.

Build: Shoes of the Magi, Bancroft's Talon, Warlock's Staff, Hastened Ring, Demonic Grip, Soul Reaver. Lategame you could replace bancrofts with Polynomicon for more burst but it's up to you.

One more thing (but is minor), I would just get 2 Healing Potions and 2 Mana Potions for your start. You don't really need 3 Healing Potions, at least for mid role.

And if you need want to compare builds/see another take on Chronos Builds you can check out my guide as well: https://www.smitefire.com/smite/guide/rifts-of-chaos-season-5-conquest-builds-5-12-17266

I will give your builds a try, but as I said I recommend you add a Warlock's Staff somewhere in there.

I've always survived fine without any additional protection or health items, but it's a good point. I'll throw in a section with alternative items for this, but I like building him to where I can erase people with 1 combo.

But if you like burst/poly built Chronos how come you don’t have any builds with Soul Reaver?
