Welcome...

..to my guide to Chronos!

Chronos is most certainly one of my favourite gods. His role as mage AD is quite niche and his speed is unmatched. By your fourth item, your enemies will be having a very hard time keeping up with your extreme speed, constant slows, stuns, and devastating damage.

So without further ado, let's dive right in to Chronos, the god of time!

Role

Chronos is a magic AD god whose speed allows him to deal insane burst damage and escape easily.

Chronos cannot be compared to any other god. The closest comparison I could draw would be Freya, whose abilities allow her basic attack to gain ranged abilities. The key difference between Chronos and Freya is that Chronos' basic attack is range, allowing you do be more aggressive more often, pelting your enemies with basics while dancing around so fast you barely take any damage. (Of course Chronos isn't equipped with a pub stomp ult like Freya, but his ult is very useful.)

It is possible to be put off by his unusual kit, which can make it hard to know what his place is or how to play him. The truth is, his combination of abilities and basic attack damage makes him an incredible force to behold, and if played right he can turn games easily, getting in and out of firefights so quick the enemy team will be left scratching their heads as you rack up the kills.

Abilities

Chronos' abilities are all useful when it comes to giving the enemy a hard time. Let's break them down.

Passive ability - Wheel of Time
This passive works with your second ability, Accelerate, to give you one of four different buffs: healing, mana (your abilities conserve 70% of mana they would normally take), ability power, and attack damage. You are going to want to stick to the fourth quadrant, the AD buff, most of the time, as this build focuses on Chronos' AD.

First ability - Rift of Time
This is a small AoE which does some good damage but has a pretty extreme delay, as well as a short cooldown. In order to get the most out of this ability, it is smart to stun your target with your third ability, and hit them with this ability while they are stunned so they cannot escape.

Second ability - Accelerate
This is the cream of the crop of Chronos' abilities. It works with your passive to give you the choice between four buffs I explained earlier. The first quadrant can actually be useful if you are running low on health and need to stay in battle to do some damage. His second ability is definitely the least useful; I reserve it for clearing minion waves. The third gives you ability power, which is useful, but not for this particular build, which focuses on attack damage - making the fourth quadrant by far the most useful and damaging aspect of his second ability. It gives you additional magical power per basic. Any time you activate his second ability, he continually gains speed and attack speed over time for six seconds.

Third ability - Stop Time
This is a unique projectile stun that is very slow but very wide, giving your enemies little chance to escape the area it takes up, if you are close enough. The stun is a great initiator - paired up with your first ability, the damage can be devastating.

Fourth ability - Rewind
This ability can really annoy your enemies. It brings you back to where you were eight seconds ago location-wise, health-wise and mana-wise. If you find yourself overextending or low on health, as you may find yourself easily doing with Chronos' extreme speed/chasing ability, you can use your ultimate to bring you back to safety and avoid a death. The only catch is that it takes a second to activate, and you can continue to take damage while immobile, so make sure you time it right.

Items

I build Chronos the same every time. There simply is no better build for him than the six items I listed above, and let me explain why.

Shoes of Focus - These shoes provide you with cooldown reduction. This is important because he relies on the speed his second ability gives him, as well as the buff his basic attack gains from the fourth quadrant of his passive. You are going to want to use the fourth quadrant of his second ability each time you go in.

Demonic Grip - This item speeds your basic attack tremendously, as well as giving you magical power, making your basic attacks much more effective.

Fatalis - Here's where the fun begins. Once you build Fatalis, you will notice that Chronos' speed combined with his second ability is tremendous. You will find yourself easily dancing around the other team, spamming your basic as well as your abilities to deal tremendous damage and escape easily.

Gem of Binding - This is a great Chronos item. You will find your enemies helpless to escape from your flurry of basic attacks, as each one slows them and brings them closer to death.

Polynomicon - Because of the fact that you are relying on abilities -and- your basic attack to deal damage, this item is a no-brainer. The 100% scaling on the basic attack is basically like having a free ability, and the healing it gives you is a nice bonus too.

Rod of Tahuti - Self-explanitory. The damage scaling on this item is simply unmatched. Just make sure you leave it for the last item.

As for active abilities, I feel the effectiveness of these is very subjective, as well as situational, so I cannot recommend any two specific ones (besides Meditate). Go with whatever makes sense in your game.

Gameplay

Chronos' early game is not so tremendous. His abilities are underwhelming unless combined with his basic, which of course cannot be built until later game.

Early game, stick to farming minions. If you are laning with someone, your stun and AoE can be very helpful for keeping enemies at bay and getting some burst damage off.

Once you build up a bit, I would say once you have the Fatalis you can start going at your enemies a bit more. Just before you go in, use your second ability Accelerate (with the fourth quadrant AD buff), initiate by stunning, follow up with your first ability, AoE Rift of Time and pelt them with basics. Dance around using the speed you get from your second ability, and if successful, your enemy won't be able to get any damage off on you because of your sheer speed. Follow this burst damage-type formula, and you will find your enemy easily annoyed by your melting ability.

Later game once you have built Gem of Binding, you can start chasing your enemy and begin playing very aggressively. The slows your enemies receive from your basic attacks will leave them helpless to escape your barrage of damaging abilities and basic attacks.

Just be wary of your surroundings. Your extreme chasing ability may leave you over-confident and lead you to over-extend. It is times like these when your ultimate comes in handy.

Conclusion

Thank you for checking out my guide to Chronos! I feel confident that my experience with this god and success with this build will yield similar results for your experience with the god.

If you have any helpful suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments box. I know this isn't a very pretty guide, it's just the barebones essentials - but I feel that the build is the most important information provided. From there, you can find your own play style that works with Chronos.

Once again thank you, and happy Smiting 0:)

I don't disagree that the information is the most important part, but ease-of-reading certainly improves the quality of a guide. Coding requires more work for the publisher, but significantly less work for the readers; it distinguishes the important information from the general knowledge that's required for a guide. For instance, you could add some color to the tidbit about the fourth quadrant of Chronos's passive being the best section during which to cast accelerate, making it immediately visible, and more importantly making it easier to retain the knowledge when playing.

Also, my two cents. If you do not have the motivation to read an entire guide without colours and pictures, that's not my fault. You don't value the information enough if you won't read it without pictures. I have offered basics on how to play as the god; whether you choose to use it (ultimately for your advantage) or not is up to you. Beginners should find this useful and I recommend they read it; one who is experienced in playing Chronos of course will have no reason to read it. Ultimately this page exists more so to give beginners an idea of what items to buy, not really how to play him. One could learn that on their own during the process of a game.

Thanks everyone. I found a guide on how to BBcode today and have added some colour, will be adding clipart in the future and possibly adding additional info. Glad to hear the build is working for you.

The me preface this with a statement that I agree with both of you to some extent.

Aesthetics can only take a guide so far; a guide that is visually appealing but is just, well, incorrect is going to be useless. However, even with the motive of wanting to master a specific god, the majority of users are going to have to fight their attention span to finish the guide. At the moment, it's structured well, and has useful information, but it's very hard to finish.

Guides are not books - there is no plot that actively keeps the reader hooked. Sure, motivation can help someone push through, but pretty colors and icons help the reader focus.

Well then let me put this in a way you will understand:

Without those "pictures and font colors", a guide gives me little reason to read anything that someone have written. Why? Because it ends up being one big, fat wall of text. There is no incentive to look into it because it looks bland and unintresting. You MUST catch the reader's eye.

Take it from a guy who knows his BB Coding as well as how to write a damn guide.

I think the thing I would suggest the most is color. The guide is a bit bland to look at, considering it's all grey and stuff. Color on the parts you REALLY want to get across is an excellent idea. Maybe some pictures as well. Pictures are nice.

Also, a skills section explaining some ideal ways to use Chronos' skills would be very beneficial. I highly recommend that you add one.

Not a bad guide, but you should work to improve upon it whenever possible.

I completely agree with your criticism. However, I don't think pictures and font colors matter so much. Adding more detail to the actual guide (skills) is a great idea, but I think when you ask for aesthetics that don't have so much to do with the guide, you're not giving the guide as much credit as it deserves.

I am new to Chronos, and this is the first guide I saw that made sense before ever even trying to play him. I got 7/3 on my first game due to THIS GUIDE. Yes, it is semi-typical, but that's because it works. Let's all give credit where it's due.

A few things, first is why bother leveling the ult passed 1 since it only lowers the Cd by 10 each rank and offers nothing else. The second is why get your 2 as your first skill since its essentially only +20 ias and 20-30 ms for 70 mana. Your options for passive are, autos hit for +12 extra, or a +53 hp heal.

Getting 1 first gives you a 108 damage nuke and the ability to help your jungler go that much quicker while costing 20 less. If you go the stun route it gives you a 88 damage nuke with stun attached. Either one of these are easier to land then 8 autos in a row at lvl 1 and help push a wave. I personally don't get my 2 until lvl 3 or 4 so I can use it as a mana supplement to help me wave clear.

Also I greatly recommend the shroud as its a great survivability increase (HP increased by almost 25%) it also gives you some ap and tons of mana(90 a wave if you can last hit correctly). 90 a wave almost completely covers 2 > 1 > 3 every wave without losing any mana at lvl 5, as that costs around 100 mana and you only spent 90.

Thank you for your feedback. This version of the guide is likely the first of many, I will revise it as time goes on.

I know what you are saying about this build being standard, but that's kind of the point - everyone playing Chronos -should- be using this build.

I will certainly spruce it up visually as soon as I have time.
