Introduction, opening word

Greetings, fellow SMITEfire users, both old and new!

Welcome to the article which sole purpose is to give newer members a warm welcome on this website!
Everybody knows it: first impressions are important. The first impression gives an immediate and general idea about a person or object. This is very important, as this "image" is very hard to change/alter, and can make the difference between somebody liking or disliking a person or object.
This "guide" is my attempt to give everybody the best possible welcoming. Not only will it (hopefully) help the website's first impression, it'll (hopefully) also help with giving players the urge to stay here, so we can grow a blooming and happy community on this website!

SMITEfire and its possibilities

SMITEfire is more than just a website for guide making and reading. While these 2 aspects are definitely the most noticeable and important, there's other parts of this website to discover.
While discovering the other parts of our website, you may also find the amazing community that this website has. The people here are very friendly, and have a lot of knowledge when it comes to SMITE! If you have any questions, feel free to ask these people, they'll be happy to help you out!

Finding an example: Users and guides

When you view some of these guides that you find here on SMITEfire, you may be overwhelmed: some of these are so amazing you can't help but be mindblown!
  • They contain a lot of helpful information.
  • Have amazing BB-coding.
  • They are specifically designed to help newer players.
  • They are a combination of the above.
Obviously these guides didn't come out of nowhere, they were created by human beings just like yourself! Here are some examples of players who's guides you may want to view, to get either a lot of knowledge, a great deal of knowledge about BB-coding, or both!

User profiles - A person to look up to!

Honestly the best guides you can find on SMITEfire are from this guy. Amazing BB-coding all around, lots of detailed and useful information for both experienced and new players! If you do decide to check out a guide, don't miss his! He is also a very helpful person who will do his best to review any of your guides you create to aid you in making it even better!
Another person with some great guides. The BB-coding may not be Branmuffin17 level, but definitely well done. Has a lot of guides with each containing a great deal of useful information. He is also a very helpful person, both SMITEfire related as well as other, perhaps more personal things. If you ever need to get something of your chest, this person will listen to you.
Has some detailed and fairly well BB-coded guides. Also founded the "SMITEfire needs help" project, found here (old), and here (new, maintained by Branmuffin17). He's also a good person who cares a lot about those things he loves.
Only has one guide, but it's very detailed, informative and has great BB-coding. He's also the grammar guy around the place, so if English isn't your strong suit, he's your guy to help you fix any grammatical errors you may create.
Unfortunately he doesn't update his God guides anymore, but he has some great guides regarding BB-coding and a few other guides containing useful information regarding the game. He is also the moderator of service, since Branmuffin17 is usually to busy commenting on guides, so if you have something to report he will most likely be at the ready.
The master warrior of SMITEfire. Owner of several informative Warrior guides and the initial founder of the "Become the master <Inset role here>" guides. He's your guy if you ever need some help with your Warriors.
This user has quite a few guides to his name. He also owns the "Become the master Assassin" guide, from the "Become the master <insert role here> series. His guides make most use of a combination of a Pros/Cons style and spoilers. They're fairly informative and good guides for players who're newer to the game.
Unfortunately quit SMITE and SMITEfire, but was originally the owner of one of the best Anubis guides on SMITEfire. Since he quit, however, he is no longer capable of maintaining his guide, and the guide has now moved over to Branmuffin17, so you'll find the guide there.
Another great member of SMITEfire. He has a Nemesis guide, which is very detailed and very nicely BB-coded. He's a great, helpful person and his Nemesis guide is a great learning tool.
This user created his own line of guides which he calls "<Insert god name here> guide for dummies". As the title itself suggests, these guides are directed to newer players specifically. Therefore, if you're new to the game and are only looking for some more basic descriptions / guides on how to play some gods, you can find that on his profile.

SMITEFire Needs Help (DucksRock's Blog Post)

This article is a project that is supposed to bring more people towards this site, so we can get a great, blooming community going! You can find the article through the following links:

Most recent version - here. (New, maintained by Branmuffin17)

Original copy - this. (Old, founded by DucksRock)
A guide to creating a guide

This "guide" will help you a lot with creating your guides. It contains a lot of information and will teach you a lot of things. For example: How to BB-code, both basic and advanced, and what is essential in your guide(s). You can find it here, and it is owned by nanoyam.
A template for guides

Here, you can find various "templates" that you can use in your guides. These templates are pre-made BB-coding "items", that you are allowed to copy and use in your own guide! You can find it here, and it is owned by Zilby.
An in-depth discussion on item choices

A very informative blog on items. You can learn a lot of things about items, such as what they do and when to pick them up. It is very useful. You can find the blog here, and it is owned by Branmuffin17.
The pros and cons of the meta, & other tidbits

A blog about the meta. You may want to check it out as it might contain some very useful information for you that can help you improve your guides, and overall experience in the game. You can find the article here, and it is owned by Branmuffin17.
The Overarching Series

A huge project that required the collaboration of multiple people from SMITEfire. These guides explain everything you need to know regarding the Arena, Conquest and Assault gamemodes. They're not only super informative, they're also very nicely formatted. The Overarching Conquest series has been crowned "best strategy post of SMITE 2016" on Reddit, and also received recognition from other famous sources, such as from the YouTuber DukeSloth.

The "Overarching Conquest" guide can be found here, and was created (and is also currently owned by) Branmuffin17, and has seen the helping hand of:
Zilby, Greenevers, ThePerfectPrism, GameGeekFan, Stuke99, DucksRock, Bullfrog323 and nanoyam.
Spruce up your words! A Guide to BB-coding

Self-promotion here, but bear with me, for I myself have created this guide to teach (newer) members of SMITEfire to learn how to BB-code like a professional. Sort of, but so far it seems to have worked.

You can find it here, and it is, obviously, made by me.

Note: If you think you have a lot to offer for the community, or you have a blog/guide that may contain valuable knowledge, please PM me the link so I can add it to the list! Thank you!

Spread the love! What can YOU do?

Damn, I'm loving those headers. That's some quality stuff.

The ones at the top of each chapter? Those have always been there, haha.

Glad you like it. I mean, I assume you like it since you haven't said anything about you not liking something, so yeah...

Undusting the buried one
This article/guide/post/whatever you want to call it, has been updated.

It has received a, quite major, visual overhaul and a lot of changes to wording. Some previously mentioned information was removed and other information was added.

Feedback of this update would be appreciated. Though I can't force you to do so, so whatever, aye?

You said Papa Murmz wasn't active anymore, but this isn't true as of... These days?

xZeroStrike (46) | March 8, 2017 8:39am
It's... a bit complicated. I won't say much more about it since I don't know if he wants it to stay relatively private.

I haven't seen the previous version of the article/guide/post/whatever but I must say that it is really useful for new members. Wish I had this read this sooner. I did see some of the posts that you linked, for example the guide for BB-coding. It looks great visually and all around really helpful. Hope this feedback will do :)

I GOT MENTIONED! Thx Zero. Great description of me. I cant believe I've been doing this for almost 2 weeks, and I'm already a great guidemaker for beginners! On BBCoding, I will improve in the future as I learn more and test things out, but in all honesty, the point of a guide is to get information across. Lemme know what type of BBCoding you wanna see in my guides and I'll update them.

On another note, I have noticed a purple number next to some people's names, and now I have one. It says (1) and I also have this reputation that says Unremarkable. Can someone inform me on this? Maybe Bran'll make a blog on it?

ARE YOU MAKING FUN OF MY BLOGGING HABITS?

It's just the +Rep button...it's such a weird, weird feature. If it was a common use thing, it might mean more. You'll see the +Rep next to any comment you or anyone else makes. Meant to be sort of like a status thing...I guess...notice Zilby has almost 120, and he's got a fancy star. If you think a comment's particularly helpful or whatever, the idea is that you could give rep props to the person.

In how our site utilizes it, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Srry, Bran. Just poking fun. But lowkey, you make great and pretty relatable blogs. Keep 'em coming!

Thx for telling me what that is. It confused me. This must mean that the more +Reps I get, the better of a reputation I have?

Well sorry I'm not a BB coding genius like Bran I also at least do good explanations on abilities and for items well I'm going to work on that part.
1
xZeroStrike (46) | October 20, 2016 12:51pm
I didn't mean to be offensive or anything.

It's just that in my opinion the BB-coding could be worked on a bit. See it as a "off-guide" feedback.

Sorry if you feel/felt offended.

Um...and I don't mean to be any point of contention...

Updated! The update adds the following:

- Users / guides that have valuable information to offer are added. This has its separate chapter.
- A list of Staff members has been added. This goes from Editor up to Staff / Community Manager. Incase I forgot any, please inform me and I'll add the person ASAP.

Hope you like it!

Branmuffin17 (394) | October 20, 2016 11:42am
Lol, the staff section is cool...but you don't have to make it so prominent...our names are HUGE. Would suggest toning it down to normal size font.

As for missing staff...don't forget Dash! (Community Manager) Although he hasn't been on much recently, would still consider Devampi (thought he was Veteran and his color is green, but title says Editor...weird) active. Also, FerrumSlash (Veteran).

FerrumSlash (70) | October 23, 2016 3:24am
Defo hasn't been too active recently lol, what with OW and all. I try to drop by the site every now and then, but i haven't seen anything engaging in particular to participate in :p I just can't talk guides and balancing.

xZeroStrike (46) | October 20, 2016 12:25pm
The following issues have been noted and fixed:

- Over sized name tags.
-> Original size: [6] Staff / Community Manager and lower, [5] Veteran and lower.
-> New size: [5] Staff / Community Manager and lower, [4] Veteran and lower.

- Missing name tags.
-> Added name tags: Dash, Community Manager | FerrumSlash, Veteran | Devampi, Veteran.

Thank you for your feedback, Branmuffin17!

On setting, you can choose your title bran. I think it's like he chose he's title Editor, but he maintains the Veteran color cuz that is he's "Highest Level Achieved"

When I read the guide the part where you show the original comment the heart picture on the left makes the text on the comment cut off from the screen. Is just bugs me and it will probably bug other people as well.
1
Technotoad64 (46) | October 19, 2016 7:37am
Should we link to this in our guides?
1
xZeroStrike (46) | October 19, 2016 7:53am
Would help. You can do so if you desire, you're not forced to, though. :)
2
Branmuffin17 (394) | October 18, 2016 12:06pm
Great, Zero. The hard part will be getting new members to see it...I guess you linking it in comments will be the easiest way for now.

Yup.

This was an idea someone gave me yesterday. I did it. So... thoughts?

I just hope it'll do something good, at least. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

ThePerfectPrism (56) | October 19, 2016 9:27am
This truly looks interesting, but there's only so much of smitefire on it imo.

tbh If you're truly doing a "welcome to smitefire", you should have a tab with the most popular editors, veterans, mods and the admins, so new users know who to look up to as inspiration. Not only the guides that are made with the focus to help with some ideas/BBCoding, but sometimes just the writing, phrasing, or even ideas are good, OR EVEN EBTTER, than those guides.

But yeah, nice.
1
xZeroStrike (46) | October 19, 2016 1:18pm
Hha I actually have those in the "example" thing in the last chapter :P

I'll copy that and give them their own, well deserved spot. I think I forgot to place you in there though... I should fix that...

Currently editing this to show more information about the site. Update should be published tomorrow.

And it was my idea to make this into a guide. Nice title though more interesting.
