Introduction

My name is Matheusfirmi and i play smite on PC. I'm a Brazilian guy who likes to play Moba, FPS and RPG games. This is my most (and probably only one) rated in-depth guide here on SMITEFire. My Smite IGN is "ManoSabao", feel free to add me there.

In this guide I'll show you a kingslayer, a selfish and ambitious god called Set.

The way you should play with Set is not that complicated as you thought, he's the kind of character you can throw up yourself in the middle of the whole enemy team and deal massive damage with the combination of his abilities and chase'em till their very end.

His 1st ability Skewer can do massive damage and apply slow for 3s and can also be combined with Spawn of Set do deal a little bit more damage.

Set's 2nd ability Spawn of Set can have up 2 charges and synergizes with all his other abilities plus act as a temporary ward to provide information about its surroundings.

The 3rd ability Sandstorm can be used as a tool of engage/disengage if a spawn is being targeted, furthermore he gets physical damage reduction, immunity to slows and damage enemies around him.

Set's masterpiece skill lies on his 4th ability Kingslayer which he gains absolute power when hitting enemy gods and increased movement speed. He mark up enemy gods to deal burst damage and heal himself at the count of 4 stacks of his rage. In addition gains a stack of Spawn of Set and excceded charges are immediately consumed to a Spawn appear near Set.

One of the relevant factors of Set is also his passive Relentless which he gains a stack of attack speed at a maximum of 10 stacks when attack an enemy. However, gains limitless stacks while Kingslayer is active.

The earlier season was crucial to impact in early game and due to this Set wasn't the best option in the jungle and was used often in Solo and Duo lane, but in season 8 the meta has changed to the jungle and since xp camps respawn more often you'll need to farm even more to stay ahead of the enemy jungler and still gank to cause impact in the game.

Pros / Cons

Strenghts / Pros

Agressive.
High burst damage.
Good Engage/Disengage.
Low Cooldowns.
Spawns works as Wards.
Immunity to slow with Sandstorm.

Weakness / Cons

Needs strategy and positioning to be relevant.
Loses scaling in late game.
Squishy if built full damage.
Necessary mechanics.

About Set

Hey lads, here I'm again to explain how Set works in this new season, so prepare your popcorn, take a confortable seat and ease your mind i will, 'cause now is time to learn "how to play with the Slayer of Kings".

Set was the first god released along with another god, Horus in Smite. They both have interaction with their passives, gaining the double of stacks when facing each other. In my opinion, Relentless is the stronger one, of course.

This new meta benefits Set even more than last season, all that chaotic team fights in early game are forgotten and farm is now more essential for late game contribution than was in the past. It's clearly to see that all the issues of Set are solved and he's in perfect balance to farm up and gank the needed lanes.

Usually, the chokepoint starts between 5 to 15 minutes when the fight for the Greater Scorpions happens and will later happen again for the Gold Fury and Fire Giant.

If built right, Set can stay in a very long and tough fight and help as he can. It's notorious how he can get in a fight with 3 or more enemy gods deal damage and get out unpunished. This is the reason he's a top tier god in the game and still is possible to have a lot of fun when playing with him.

Items

A BUILD TO FOCUS MY RAGE

A new season has arrived and we need to stay tuned to the buffs in the jungle scenario.

I've been playing a while with our ruler and i'm able to say that he's overpowered and must be played or banned. There are people who will prefer him on Solo Lane and will ask me for builds and tips but calm down young ones, i had been working on a section in Tutorial chapter and all you need to know will be there. Now back to itemization.

The beginning of the game pick up Eye Of The Jungle, Boots, Healing Potion x2 and Hand of the Gods.

After your first back you can go either Warrior Tabi or Ninja Tabi, for this time i'll suggest to for power boots.

As second item, take Jotunn's Wrath for your first power spike since it gives lots of physical power, 20% CD and flat penetration for early game pressure.

As third item, you should take even more power but now an item with passive should be taken and Heartseeker take its place in our build. The 65 power it gives, 200 mana, 20 MP5 and 10% pen is too damn good to avoid, also the passive is tempting and the more power built is the damage dealt.

As fourth item you must take the same item as it was in past updates of this guide and Shifter's Shield returns powerful than ever since its recent buffs later on in season 8.

As the fifth item, Stone Cutting Sword shines with the passive physical protection steal.

After Elixir of Speed is bought, you can go any way you like, situational itens are welcome to be built, it you have no ideal what to do, i would suggest to Bloodforge be the final piece of this show, the shield given by killing an enemy god might be the difference between life and grey screen.

the solo lane build is seriously questionable as you should never stack crazy amounts of hp on an assassin e.g. gaia and renewal because Set already has healing and it will make antiheal more effective against you and most assassins benefit more from something like a soul eater for the power because most assassins you will want a bruiser build excluding Set. also the build lacks solid defense outside of talisman e.g. mantle or urchin as they are good on him, there is no percent pen from something like a void shield.

Stacking HP in itself is OK because Assassins have a lower health pool than a Warrior or Guardian, however I agree that stacking sustain like those items isn't correct and also because he's an Assassin, Set appreciates a lot more power in a build for his scaling rather than a full tank build that you could run on someone like Cu Chulainn.

Set is one of the very few assassins who doesnt need very much power to be affective becauseof the way his kit works as it does so much damage naturally. Set realy appreciates items like frostbound hammer, caduceus shield and other good utility items. also set does need solid defense because he is an all in god and needs good tankiness to stay alive after the fight as high amount of hp over prots just puts him at risk of being easily one shot by hunters with crit or qin's. Also, HP is good v mages but not so much hunters as they shred through tanks efficiently. HP is always good its just the health tree is not for assassins as most of them don't benefit from solid hp items and will use power/hp or defense/hp like talisman of energy and not stone of gaia or mail of renewal unlike gods like Arthur or Cu Chulainn.
Also i recommend warriors axe on set as late game sundering axe upgrade is extremely good as a poke tool with your 1 and you get more of a benefit from warriors axe imo from the base stats as it has hp and prots.

Please don't build Arondight on Set, it doesen't proc until his ult ends, making it a bad pickup just like on Bastet.
1
Matheusfirmi (3) | June 20, 2021 11:45am
I build Arondight every single match i play with Set and it doesn't influence in the final results.

But i also would like to know which item would you build instead.

Kriega1 (143) | June 20, 2021 12:01pm
Transcendence (early/mid, so like 2nd to 4th item), Bloodforge, Stone Cutting Sword, Brawler's Beat Stick / The Crusher, Serrated Edge, Jotunn's Wrath etc... for pure damage options, or something like Shifter's Shield / Ancile / Void Shield but where and what depends on build path and matchups.

Also btw Hydra's Lament doesen't proc on Set's 2 anymore (which also means you can't abuse it with his ult active), so since he doesen't really abuse it anymore, im not sure i'd even build it at all on Set anymore tbh.

Instead of heartseeker you could get hydras as cdr is really good on set, plus the passive procs when u spam ur 2 in ult
1
Kriega1 (143) | March 24, 2020 3:27am
Or you could build both. But I would prioritise Heartseeker over Hydra's.
1
ManoSabao | March 23, 2020 6:41pm
heartseeker does more damage combined with set's spawn, skewer and aa than hydra's spawn, skewer and aa

Matheusfirmi (3) | March 23, 2020 6:15pm
First of all, thanks for reply and make your argument.

Second, i'll refute your argument for replace Hydra's Lament for Heartseeker.

Hydra's Lament would be a nice to be placed instead of Transcendence but in this way you may lack of mana, the CDR is not the focus on Set.

In Solo Lane you can only count with the CDR of Gladiator's Shield.

Heartseeker is a lategame item due to its high price, if you're looking for early game pressure, build Hydra's Lament as third item and forget about the lategame item Bloodforge and its powerful passive, power spike and lifesteal.

I made a test at training area and i've done a total damage of 1018 with Hydra's Lament after using Spawn of Set, Skewer and AA. Then i made the same test for Heartseeker and got a total damage of 1116.

To put all in a nutshell, i rather recommend to put Hydra's Lament as a situational item instead of core item.

Why not test a build with trans/bloodforge/hydra's/heartseeker?

e.g. Warrior > Crusher > Trans > Hydra's > Heartseeker > Bloodforge?

going to agree with you that it's more of a trans replacement. btw don;t forget where trans gives you a bigger pool hydras gives you more regen and is cheaper. so yes you will run into maan problems however you can stay longer in lane due to the regen it gives in periods you don;t have to spam as much abilities

good point to express your argument +Rep for it :)

GaseousClay (1) | August 15, 2019 4:31am
why level your 2 over 3? You get no added DMG and when you ult you can spam 2.
:) Suggestion to think over.

Matheusfirmi (3) | February 24, 2020 7:12pm
I have stopped building this guide but i'm starting to think about rebuild rn. Also bout the question, my motivations to level up Spawn of Set over Sandstorm is that i can spam my spawns over and over again when the Kingslayer is being used and them just simply dont disappear after 8s.

The probability of using Sandstorm to deal damage is lower than to use to engage or disengage and the damage reduction is 15% on all levels.
