Introduction

Hey guys Psyocut is here and today I will be bringing all you lovely people a guide on Nox, Roman Goddess Of The Night. Nox is a ranged, magical mage who excels at team fights and bringing control to aid her team in addition to medium DPS.

In my opinion, I shift between all three builds above: the aggressive, standard and utility but it all depends on the comp and situation.

For example I only build the aggressive build when I am ahead and have dominated my lane and also can trust in myself and my team to prevent me from dying.

I build the standard if I'm unsure of how the situation will go as it is good for all around purpose.

I build the Utility build if I am aiding a high damaging magical character. For example Chronos or Freya or Sol adc/ Ao kuang Jungle.

Well with this little intro lets get straight to it!

Laning Phase/ Early Game

90% of the time I go for the start of Soulstone and purple pot. I only change this if I know I will lose lane no matter what, for example against a Zeus. This start of Soulstone and purple pot allows for very good early game level 1-3 clear. This is very handy on Nox as her lane clear struggles early and picks up at about level 9/10. With Soulstone this drops to level 7-8.

If you have gone with the standard start remember to be careful if you are against good early junglers such as Thor or Fenrir as they can kill you quite quickly and can waste your purple pot as if you die; it is gone!

When laning, you should've done red buff with your support and AD carry, you need to hit the minions while walking back to group them up and gain the stacks on Soulstone. At 5 stacks of Soulstone place Siphon Darkness on the wave to hit all creeps. Basic attack any which are still living. Majority of the time I do this I end up winning the first lane push which is great as you hit level 2 before your enemy mid laner.

At level 2 put a point into shadow lock. If the enemy mid laner is slow to react or has no escape land shadow lock on them. They then take your ability damage from shadow lock in addition to any creep damage which they haven't killed yet. Most of the time it takes them to half health which allows for you and your jungler to help secure at least 1 mid camp.

At level 3 put a point into shadow step. This acts as your main source of escapability but be careful when using it early as it does cost 90 mana at all ranks which is a real mana drain early on for you.

Here is the order of how I max my abilities:

Siphon Darkness > Shadow Lock > Night Terror > Shadow Step

You may be thinking why is Night Terror, your ult, 3rd on the list? Well I personally do this because of my play style. I use her ult during team fights for its 40% damage reduction, not its damage. So I max shadow lock before my ult as then my general combination will do extra damage than usual which does surprise some people.

Remember to ward as well because despite your dash people like Thor and Fenrir really hurt you if your siphon darkness and shadow lock are down; it's even harder for her because Siphon darkness is on a 13 second Cooldown without CDR which is a long time.

Mid Game/ Team Fights

By the point of mid game, you should have boots online and your stackable item, I can accept close to finishing building the item. During the mid game Nox starts to hit her power spike because Siphon Darkness should be maxed out which means it will deal 370 damage at base (+ 100% magical power) before mitigations which is a lot of damage.

A good Nox player will not just strive to hit your combo as many times as you can although this is good and they shouldn't be striving for top damage either as this is not her forte. A good Nox player will be in team fights to use the utility and flexibility of her kit to aid her team when possible. Countless times I have put Siphon Darkness down on one target and switched Shadow Lock to another target. Although your Siphon Darkness damage will basically be missed you still would've provided help by the way of control. The silence might've stopped a key ability and will also zone people out which helps in picking off key targets.

The good thing about Nox, compared to other mages, is that she has no direct person to aim for. She can focus anyone and do well because of her CC. For example, Rooting and Crippling the Assassin can provide lock down to stop them from escaping and be picked off. Silencing the enemy mid laner can prevent them from using high damaging abilities for a while. Even 1 second is all your team needs.

During team fights also try and use your ultimate for more than just a snipe tool or its damage. Try doing it at the start of the fight on the potential carry to limit their damage throughout the team fight. Use the DoT damage on Night Terror to either expose or
keep track of stealthed targets etc. Nox has a lot of versatility.

Late Game/ Team fights Extra

In the later stages of the game Nox has hit her optimal point in the game. She has the damage to basically one shot squishier characters and the carries and also her CC remains relevant. By this stage the majority of your items should be done. In an ideal world you would have Rod of Tahuti but working on it is still fine.

Keep using the same things in team fights like you did in the mid game. However if you want to, you can focus a squishy target with you combo and either kill them or severely poke them so either they are forced to back or the rest of your team can kill them.

This is literally most of her explained throughout her mid and late game.

Tips, Tricks and Mechanics

Tips:

When your abilities are on Cooldown play very careful as you are exposed to being killed.

If in danger and know that dashing away will not help try to use shadow lock on them to hold them in place.

You can still move while targets are rooted and can move up to 60ft which is past basic attack range. Use this to your advantage against hunters and magical basic attackers.

You can use Night Terror for CC purposes as well to avoid things like Ares Ultimate.

Dashing into an ally can stop you from taking damage for up to 8 seconds (only exception is Nu Wa's fire shards). Right Clicking can get you out and deal damage in an area. Using both the dash damage and the dash area damage adds to a lot of quick burst damage.

Use Night Terror to hit walls purposely to get maximum usage of splash DoT damage as well as the damage reduction.

Try and avoid all the damage you can, obviously for health, but also to keep your Passive with as many stacks as possible as it does provide up to a 16% magical power increase.

Pros / Cons

Pros

High amounts of Control
Good lock down
Decent lane clear
High zoning potential
Good objective secure
Excellent Team Fight
Counters a lot of people

Cons

Long Cooldowns
Stuggles Early
Low mana pool
Low DPS compared to other mages.
Passive is easily removed by creeps
Skill shot reliant - combo's and abilities can easily miss :(
