Introduction

Boom-Chaac-a-laka!!

Chaac is still going strong (and possibly even stronger!) In this wonderful Season 5. There have been a number of changes to his build order, but his play-style stays relatively the same. And without further ado, let us delve into the pros and cons.

Pros and Cons

PROS
Strong Clear
Strong Early Game
Exceptional Lane Bully
Strong Presence in other lanes
Good Burst Damage
Tanky (ish)

CONS
Soaks Damage
Can be useless if enemy has a lot of AoE damage
Kinda slow, and can be even slower
Relies mostly on abilites

Items - Core

Mage's Blessing Will be the Go To for Chaac. Why not Warrior's Blessing? Because Mage's Blessing gives us +25 ability damage, MP5, and the evolved version gives +10% Cooldown. The 40+ HP will be overshadowed by Chaac's Rain Dance, and it requires you to damage the enemy God every 10s to maximize it's use. In our case, the best defense is a good offense. A fast clear will let your minions punish the enemy.

Shifter's Shield First buy? WHAT? Given the nature of Season 5, boots are not such a good first investment. The minions are far too tanky, and backing to fountain to complete boots is a terrible idea, given the increased size of the map. You won't need the extra movement speed, and if the enemy Solo rotates early, warn your team and continue farming. The enemy solo will feel that mistake later. With Mage's Blessing and Shifter's Shield your clear will be very fast.

Breastplate of Valor will be your third item. This will give you the much needed Mana, MP5, and Cooldown Reduction you need to spam your abilities. Now you should be clearing minions almost instantly, taking mana camp very quickly, and having enough power and defense to punish your enemies. *NOTE* If your enemy is a magical God, use Genji's Guard instead.

Items - Late Game (Last Buy)

Shield of Regrowth
Shield of Regrowth will give you a huge boost in HP, good HP5 and MP5, and Cooldown %. Also, it's passive will allow you to traverse more ground quickly, giving you the edge in jumping team fights, ganking, and chasing.

Mantle of Discord is always a good pick. With it's heavy physical and magical protections, Cooldown %, and passive, it will allow you to jump more confidently into team fights. Spirit Robe is a great alternative against CC heavy teams.

Titan's Bane is usually a good pick, especially if the enemy has two or more tanky opponent's. If you find your issue to be with the enemy healing/regenaration, opt for Brawler's Beat Stick, or if the enemy is mostly squishy, you can experiment with the new The Crusher.

***NOTE***
The last two items can be swapped. If the enemy team is tankier, build Penetration 1st. If the enemy is more Damage focused, opt for the defensive item.

First 5 Minutes

  • After buying your starter items, head straight to solo lane.
  • It would be wise to assess who your opponent and their Jungler are.
  • Remember, Chaac is a heavy hitter and a bully. Try to pressure your opponent beyond the halfway mark, but be cautious that the enemy Jungler does not gank you.
  • When the minions arrive, try to land your Axe so that it hits all enemy minions. This is critical to a fast clear.
  • If you clear first, or if you think you have time, request your jungler assist you with mana camp, if they are not doing so already.
  • Get back in your lane and maintain pressure.
  • Constantly watch your enemy Solo.
  • If they happen to rotate, let your Jungler know and have them handle it. Take this opportunity to push your minions or get your camp.
  • Don't try to steal the enemy camp. If you run into them AND their jungler, you will probably die.
  • When you have exhausted your HP/Mana, return to fountain.
  • Immediately purchase 2 Wards.
  • ONLY AFTER you have purchased the wards (YOU MUST BUY WARDS!), spend the rest of your gold.
  • Return with your teleport glyph.
  • When you get the opportunity, place wards near the red dots as shown on the map. This will ensure you are aware of the enemy.

Mid-Late Game

  • Continue to clear minions, mana camp, and if possible, xp camps.
  • Once you complete boots, start rotating with enemy Solo.
  • Aim to get to level 20 ASAP. If you can be 2+ levels above everyone, you can sway the game in your favor.
  • If you are ahead, try to gank or bully enemy Mid lane, but don't let your lane get overrun.
  • Your main focus is to slowly whittle away enemy towers, deny enemies gold, and staying ahead. Don't get crazy for kills.
  • Use your ultimate wisely. A Chaac ult should be for silencing enemies so that your team can kill them or escape. Only use it to execute if you can guarantee the kill.

Summary

That is it for my Chaac Guide today. I hope you enjoyed the read. If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to leave a comment. Let me know how this build works for you! And remember, no single build is THE BUILD. Don't be afraid to experiment, customize, and make it your own!

Have a great day!

Ok which of you are guilty of upvoting this. Levelling order is wrong (ult should not have any further levels past 5 until the other abilities are maxed).

Level maxing should be: 1 > 3 (or 2) > 2 (or 3)> ult

Levels 1 to 5: 1 > 2 (or 3) > 3 (or 2) > 1 > 4. The level 2 and 3 level ups may be based on what start you go.

Other problems include: Titan's bane stated as a pick, shifters listed as "core", heck even breastplate isn't a core item in all situations.

Improvements: start 1: mage's blessing/warrior's blessing, tier 1 boots, health chalice.
Start 2: mage's/warrior's blessing, health chalice, 3 health pots.
start 3: round shield, health chalice, 3 health pots.
start 4: tier 2 soul eater, health chalice.

Relics: teleport, thorns, horrific, sprint, phantom, shell, blink, (rarely) cursed ankh.

Build Example 1: warrior tabi, breastplate of valor, glad shield, urchin, Oni hunters, spirit robe. Lategame sell glad shield for Void Shield. (generic tank build against physical lane opponent)

Build Example 2: warrior tabi, genji's guard, glad shield, void shield, urchin, spirit robe. Lategame sell glad shield for mantle. (generic tank build against magical lane opponent)

Build Example 3: Glad Shield, Warrior tabi, breastplate, urchin, pestilence, spirit robe. lategame sell glad shield for void shield. (tank build against anti-heal)

Build Example 4: Glad Shield, Warrior Tabi, Blackthorn Hammer, midgardian mail, spirit robe, mantle of discord. Lategame sell glad shield for Void shield. (tanky hybrid build against some AA)

Build Example 5: Warrior Tabi, breastplate of valor, midgardian mail, genji's guard, shield of regrowth, spirit robe. lategame sell breastplate for mantle. (tank build against physical AA lane opponent + some movement)

Build Example 6: warrior Tabi, breastplate, midgardian, oni hunters, witchblade, spirit robe. (complete AA-shutdown build)

Build example 7: Soul Eater, Warrior Tabi, Void Shield, oni hunters, urchin, jotunns. (Heal Sustain damage hybrid build, but has low mana sustain)

Build example 8: Warrior, genji's, urchin, nemian lion, spirit robe, oni hunter's garb. (build against magical opponent and crit, get thorns with this build)

Build example 9: warrior, blackthorn, void shield, genji's/oni hunter's, spirit robe, jotunns. (hybrid build)

unmentioned situational items: bulwark, beat stick, masamune, stone cutting sword, frostbound, stone of gaia, emperor's armour, gauntlet of thebes, sovereignty, heartward, shogun's kusari, spectral armour, runic shield, winged blade, shifters, talaria/reinforced boots.

Build example 10: Warrior, Ancile, genji's guard, urchin, void shield, spirit robe. (against magical lane opponent who can have important abilities interrupted, can possibly sell ancile lategame for mantle)

I did. What are you gonna do about it, huh? :P Anyway, I up-voted this because it was better than most of the Chaac builds back when it was published and it's still better than most of the current ones. Anyway, this build hasn't been revised since last season year so I don't see any reason to change my vote.

I did too, to be honest. It wasn't bad, the writeup had some effort put into it, and it's not the worst build ever. Granted, it definitely could be better, as evidenced by your multiple build suggestions. But this isn't that bad to downvote.

I use a slightly modified version of this guide for Joust gameplay and it works wonderfully. The only situational i'm surprised isn't in this guide is Stone of Gaia, granted I never really play conquest but it always seems like a pretty solid choice in Joust and works well for me.

The money spooling is very low in Conquest, which is why expensive, single utility items like Stone of Gaia aren't recommended.

ahh that makes much more sense, I figured there had to be a good reason for it. Shield of Regrowth + Stone of Gaia is such a lovely combo.

Please don't get Titan's Bane on Chaac, there is another item Void Shield for that purpose.

Huh, this seems like a pretty good build with good reasoning for your build order.

I was initially cautious in my optimism because, for example, the "core" would only be suitable against a physical solo...but...in your writeup of items, you DO mention the item I'd personally use in place of BoV if facing a magical solo ( Genji's Guard). You also do this for other items like Titan's Bane (mentioning alt item possibilities of Brawler's or Crusher).

In your item list at the top, you might then consider reorganizing so you can better fit in optional items...e.g. "Core" can just be the first 2 items, or you might just say Item 1 (Shifter's Shield), Item 2 (Warrior Tabi), Item 3 (Choose One of BoV / Genji), etc., etc. Number the items so people understand your listing is in order, and give choices so people can choose for their situation (rather than having to read in the body, which some people will not do unfortunately).

All in all, I like that you consider counter items, Regrowth for faster rotations, and other functional items, and I like the Mage's Blessing start for Chaac over Warrior or something.

Some simple but good tips as well.

Very Nice Build and went well with my already great foundation with Chaac. The first buy of shifters shield and the mage blessing made me a destructive threat against Thor and A Hunter decided to go solo with Xblanc. Might be different against a true solo but I will be using this build for future use.
