Stone of Fal is there only because you need to 200 magical protections and because it gets that job done, it gives also some good power. If somebody would like to replace it, I'd advice to put in something that achieves that 200 something magical protections, that is not only sole power. Yes instead of Soul Gem one can get Pythags. I will put it there in the options. Divine is understandable I think for most, if heavy healing enemy team - get it at the place of Stone of Fal, or instead of Staff or Gem of Iso.

Here Kriega it is the ideal place to stack Thebes early. For escapes you have your escape in Rushing Terror, so you don't risk as much even if you don't have the speed early in ganks or so. Powerwise and CDR, it might be more useful to go boots first and also the important thing, mobility to rotate...I will see and try it.

I've never tried HoG, but to be clear I prefer sustain.

It is for Conquest and other gamemodes. I don't have experience with HoG, I just put there what I commonly use. I cleared it above, Stone of Fal is there just to fulfill 200 smth magical protections, I recommend doing that and Stone of Fal is not ideal but there isn't any other option like that. Gives you those needed protections (added the passive), checks that box, plus gives some power and CDR. You can replace it if you want, but I would recommend to get that 200 smth magical protections.

After you achieve that first part, around 200 physical and magical protections, then go on it is your choice what to take in the power items shop. I would advice power items with some health in their kits.
