Intro and Pros/Cons

Art by Hadassa
My name is x MysTeRioN z, a majority Xbox Player but sometimes I play on PC too. I'm a Brazilian nice guy who likes to play FPS, Racing, Plataform and RPG games. I like to study and read when I'm not playing and I'm also studying to be a lawyer. My xbox gamertag is the same as here: x MysterioN z

I'm here to bring you this quick guide to play with Kukulkan on mid lane. My objective here is to be as quick as possible, so I don't want to make a long guide (such as my Cupid guide: Love, find your mark!). I want to tell everything you need to know about this snake guy to play in mid and without wasting time.

Skills and Combos

Skills

Power of the Wind Jewel
Type: Passive

Power Increased: 4% of maximum Mana

Kukulkan increases his power based on how much base mana he has.

details

Zephyr
Type: Projectile

Damage: 85/130/185/220/265 (+75% of your Magical Power)
Slow: 20/25/30/35/40%
Slow Duration: 3s
Cooldown: 7 seconds

Kukulkan spit a wind projectile that explodes in a small area when hits the enemy damaging and slowing them.

details

Slipstream
Type: Buff

Movespeed increased at the start: 60/65/70/75/80%
Cooldown: 15-11 seconds

Kukulkan uses the wind in his favor so he gains increased movespeed for 4s. The extra movespeed starts higher and decreases until it reaches 0 at the end of the skill. Kukulkan is also immune to slows for 0.6 sec after activating it.

details

Whirlwind
Type: Ground Target (DoT)

Damage Per Tick: 8/16/24/32/40 (+15% of your Magical Power)
Minimum Damage: 48/96/144/192/240 (+90% of your Magical Power)
Maximum Damage: 104/208/312/416/520(+195% of your Magical Power)
Tornado Lifetime: 4s
Cooldown: 15/14/13/12/11 seconds

Kukulkan uses the power of wind to create a "pupnado" that damages all enemies that pass through it. The Whirlwind stay where was created for 4 secs and each enemy that passes through it creates a minor Whirlwind around himself that damages applying it every 0.5 sec for 2.5 secs and the timer is refreshed every 0.35 sec the enemy stay inside the major Whirlwind for a max of 12 ticks. If the enemy just "miss-step in it", applies the "minimum damage". If the enemy stays inside the Whirlwind for all its duration, applies the "maximum damage". This skill has a 0.35 casting time (until it starts to do damage) and enemies that pass through it during casting time don't take any damage nor get the minor Whirlwind. The first (and additional) tick is at 0.35.

details

Spirit of the Nine Winds
Type: Line

Damage: 400/500/600/700/800 (+120% of your Magical Power)
Cooldown: 90 seconds

Kukulkan uses all his power to "summon the big kukupuper" that passes in a line doing massive damage and knocking back every enemy in the way.

How to Play

Early Game

  • You are VERY WEAK and an easy target until mid-game SO AVOID CRAZY FIGHTS.
  • Try to clear the wave as soon as possible, and try to don't take damage from the wave. If the enemy cleared his wave first, retreat to your tower. If you cleared first, try to poke him safely.
  • It's recommend you take the damage buff. If you see that there is a chance of the enemy take your buff, then do it even before your jungler comes. Bring the buff to your tower if needed to not lose a lot of hp.
  • In teamfights try to participate from some distance and run for your life using Slipstream if someone focuses on you.
  • PUT WARDS ON THE MAP to avoid Ganks!!
  • Poke your enemy as soon as possible (See the "poke poke" on Combos Section) and be careful doing it, he might call for help and put you in serious trouble.
  • FOCUS ON FARMING, you need to get big as soon as possible so every farm you see, do it if possible (camps or minions waves), especially the camps on the right and left side of mid lane.
  • Be careful dying. IF THE ENEMY GET BIGGER THAN YOU, YOU WILL KNOW WHAT PAIN IS because you're pure damage, no big cc, no good escapes.
  • Ask for help every time you need it, and don't do anything that can compromise yourself badly.
  • Remember that you have a low health pool and 0 defenses so "be smart".

Mid Game

  • Now you do decent damage, probably you are killing a minions wave without problems using Whirlwind.
  • Now it's time to become a little aggressive. Your damage scales very well now (book is already stacked). Squishy target should be dying extremely easily for you if you hit your entire combo (including your ulti). Time to shine.
  • REMEMBER THAT OBJECTIVES ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN KILLS, so it's time to start to rotate, taking down towers, and kill with your team jungle bosses such as gold fury and pyro.
  • ALWAYS try to participate in teamfights now, 'cause your skills ARE VERY USEFUL to the team and they do a VERY GOOD amount of damage.
  • Now it's a nice moment to start rotating to surprise enemies and summon some kulkupupers!!!

Late Game

  • Time to group up.
  • Now you are stronger than ever so, time to keep shining.
  • Use wisely your skills now, specially your ulti that is hard to hit.
  • Stay with your team. Participate in the team fights combining your skills with theirs. If the enemy got stunned, put a tornado and spit on them to slow them.
  • Unfortunately, you are very squishy, so YOU DIE VERY FAST at late game, BUT, you can counter it by playing safe behind your teammates. So, as long as you don't try to be a front line and stay together with your team you will still be a killing machine.
  • As you should notice, a single Whirlwind combined with the big kukulpuper can also kill a full health squishy target, so use it wisely.
  • Try to keep your 2 always ready 'cause if someone turns to you, you can active Ayrton Senna mode, I mean... Slipstream and just run away.

Builds and Itemization

How to Build

Now I will talk about how you should build KKK (lol) properly, what your build must have to be decent and viable.

Builds

In this section, I tell you the pros and cons of each build and for each situation, each build was made for.

Please don't forget to read the notes of each build, they have important comments ;)

Final Considerations

"Dragons have no fear! Ooo! Look at my tail! It's so long, I wanna chase it!"

Best skin from the Season 5 Odyssey, and of course his best skin! (**** the T5)
And probably one of the best/cutest skins in the entire game!!!

My conclusion is that Kukulcan is an easy and funny god (especially with the doggo skin) to play and following the tips and builds I posted here I'm sure you will have good results. Good luck and have fun!!!

in arena do I buy the double stacking? Seems too long to take online. I would rather take chrono's pendant as third item or spear of deso

Pendulum > Thoth > Divine > Poly > Reaver > Shard (or maybe coin after poly then reaver last)

Pendulum > Thoth > Poly > Reaver > Shard/Coin > Myrddin/Soul Gem

Thanks! Gonna try it out and report back to you. Is pendant bad item overall on mages today?

Sands of time is not the starter for Kukulkan. Gem is a way better starter item build is only ok
1
xmysterionz (71) | May 7, 2021 1:03pm
Once you upgrade it, SoT (now Pendulum of Ages) will provide 190 magical power that hardly ever will drop below 170 due to your giant mana pool + mp5 and you don't have to build CDR like Chronos' Pendant

Big Damage (37) | March 15, 2021 10:33pm
Sands of Time is fine.

"Kill Dat Tank" - Doesen't have Soul Reaver???

Not really sure about the lack of Soul Reaver in some of these builds if im being honest.

Also add Breastplate as an option.
1
xmysterionz (71) | May 21, 2020 9:52am
Yeah, in kill dat tank I had two options, reach the maximum pen with Obsidian or get 30% and get soul and I chose the first one, thinking about a really tanky comp.

Soul reaver adds a extra power with the passive, giant amount of base power + mana to combo with the passive and BoT allied with 10% pen to complement Charon reaching a decent amount of pen to hurt tanks. Honestly I can't see a really good reason to not build it on Kukul.

BoV added.
1
Kriega1 (143) | May 21, 2020 10:33am
Im sorry but having both Shard and Charon's in your build is completely unnecessary. Building Shard and Charon's in the same build is no bueno, and you would get better DPS just from swapping your Charon's for Reaver.

The build should be something like: CDR boots > Thoth > Deso > Reaver > Shard > Estaff > sell boots for Chronos'.

Why, for the lifesteal build, would you run Pythagorem's Piece over Typhon's fang? Just curious
4
Branmuffin17 (394) | May 20, 2020 5:38pm
Although Shoes of the Magi has lifesteal, it's not a very high amount, so I wouldn't count that as a true 1st lifesteal item...it's more like an early option for sustain.

Typhon's Fang is great, but it should be purchased as a 2nd lifesteal item when it's considered at all. In these cases, you want a strong 1st lifesteal item so you can get the most out of Typhon's passive lifesteal and power boost. Again, Shoes of the Magi isn't really providing enough lifesteal to get much out of it.

The 2 lifesteal items that get the most out of Typhon's are Bancroft's Talon and Pythagorem's Piece, with Bancroft being the much more common option when getting 2 lifesteal items.

Kukulkan is not a god that should normally run with 2 lifesteal items...taking up 2 slots for lifesteal takes away from other items he could be building. In this case, he might choose one of 4 lifesteal items...Bancroft, Pythag's, Polynomicon, and Soul Gem. Of these, and because Myst obviously wants Chronos' Pendant in most of his builds, feels he has relatively enough CDR, so he doesn't really need Soul Gem. And while Polynomicon is a great and common item for him, it's also not really providing enough lifesteal to get the most out of Typhon's as a 2nd lifesteal item. Pythag's is a strong item for him here, especially since he usually will not want to go solo mid/late game. He wants to stick with teammates to make it safer for himself. He and nearby teammates will get a lot of function out of Pythag's passive power and lifesteal boost. It also, like Typhon's, has 10% penetration, so is good mid/late game against tanks.

Why not Bancroft? Well, it can work, but Kukul is not a close-in fighter and isn't really looking to exchange damage and eventually come out on top. He wants to keep people mostly at range...~50 units and further...just close enough to hit Zephyr (and maybe follow up with Polynomicon fortified basic hit).

Note that I also said I wouldn't take up 2 slots in Kukul's build for lifesteal. Why then does Myst have Pythag's and Poly? Both have alternate utility. Pythag's provides a team buff. Poly is much more specifically used for the passive burst damage potential, and isn't really considered a standard lifesteal item. So at least in this case, these items are providing added utility.

In any case, I'm with Myst here, I wouldn't bother with Typhon's on him.

We are so in sync that you basically said every word I would say.

Nice job old man XD

Actually Typhon’s can be ok, e.g Magi Shoes Book of Thoth Poly Reaver Typhon’s Shard/Deso

Because this guide wasn't updated to 7.2, and at the very beginning of 7.1, when this guide was updated, Shoes of Focus wasn't the dominated option yet. Sooner it will be fixed.

Book of souls start isn’t advised since the nerf at start of season to it, always go mages and tier 1 Thoth. Your “anti-tank” Build has no soul reaver for some reason.
1
xmysterionz (71) | April 9, 2019 1:55pm
Last time I did/needed a soul reaver was at patch 5.21, so I forgot this item exist :v

Would you finish Thoth first or buy shoes then finish it?
1
Kriega1 (143) | April 9, 2019 1:13pm
Buy Shoes first. Though it’s not the end of the world if you decide to build thoth first
