Introduction

Awilix Season 5 Conquest Guide

Hello and welcome to my Awilix Season 6 Conquest Guide.
I played Smite since the start of Season 2 and love playing Awilix ever since.
She is one of the most versatile Gods in the Game and I for myself never got bored with her.
In Season 2 I reached Diamond 1, Diamond 4 in Season 3 and in Season 4 I wasn't really keen on playing too much Smite but I already got to Plat 1 only through qualifying.
This Awilix guide is supposed to make you grasp a basic feeling of the god and not to give you expertise in every mechanic. I am making this guide because I see too many people fail with Awilix because they don't even know the basic mechanics or even builds.
This might explain the Winrate of Awilix currently Sitting at 41% although the God can dominate in the right hands and is not that hard to pick up.

Pros / Cons

PROS
-One of the strongest early games (not that great anymore thanks Hirez and 4.19)
-Great snowball potential
-Easy to pick up
-Satisfying plays
-Amazing Ganks/Rotation
CONS
-Weak teamfight potential
-Hard to come back from falling behind
-Hard to master
-Mana hungry
-Weak Lategame

Skills

Summon Suku

This is the basic movement Skill of Awilix. You will mostly need this to engage in a fight or to set up your Feather Step, therefore leaving this Skill at level 1 is great because you don't need the extra damage and you want to have the mana cost as low as possible. If you cancel the ability while riding Suku it does consume Mana but does not go on cooldown. If you can engage without leaping off you should always do that to have a leap at your hand later on. Chaning this Leap into Feather Step is the best way to disengage because Feather Step and the leap off Suku grant you immunity to new damage or CC. Meaning you are immune basically until your Feather Step ends. Hitting something right at the front edge of your Targeter and then immediately using Feather Step is also faster than normal walk speed so keep that in mind when you need to escape and have minions at your hand.

Feather Step

This is now again the first ability you want to level on Awilix because the clear from her 3 is not needed anymore because you most likely start in jungle at speed.
This is the bread and butter of Awilix's Kit. If you master Feather Step you can humiliate almost everyone. The skill is quite simple. What basic attack would be next in your 3-attack-hitchain determines how Feather Step functions. If you hit one basic before using Feather Step the ability does x1.5 damage and if you hit two basics before using it you get x2.0 damage in an AoE circle. Aditinally, you always cripple and root your enemy for the duration, which is 0.6 seconds. You can hit the enemy with other abilities to set-up your feather step but then no damage multiplier applies. Despite the range of the AoE circle you can use your Feather step from quite further making it a great gap closer tool and the root/cripple also provides stopping power for most leaps or dashes if used with the right timing. As already said, this ability provides complete immunity to all new CC or damage during the duration, this means you can for example dodge any enemy ability by hitting ANY enemy and using feather step right as you would get hit. There are four exceptions for this Fire Shards can hit you, No Escape, Gravity Surge and the pull of Paolao still can pull you out of a Feather Step. Bleeds or DOTs on the other hand still apply while you use your Feather Step so be careful about that. You can also use your Feather Step to get over small walls like Ring of Spears or Ice Wall if you hit a target behind the wall.

Moonlight Charge

Moonlight Charge is the completion of Awilix's kit and synergizes really well with her other Abilities. Imagine the knockup radius of this abilty just like Petrify but from behind. Since knockups are the strongest kind of CC in Smite you usually only want to pair your Ultimate with this if the enemy is far away and doesn't have any kind of movement ability. Otherwise just use the time the enemy is knocked up to hit some basic attacks and use your Gravity Surge when the enemy tries to leap away. If they try to dash simply use your Feather Step to stop the dash.

Gravity Surge

Awilix's ultimate is the final part of her lockdown kit. If you somehow can't follow the enemy, which you usually can with your other abilities, or if he leaps away this is the perfect part to get them back and secure the kill. If you want to pair Gravity Surge with Moonlight Charge always wait for the enemy to be close to hitting the ground before casting to ensure you get the extra hits on them while they are knocked up. Also don't be scared to use Gravity Surge just for the attack speed buff because it can be helpful in some situations despite having a very long cast time.
You can hit two basics after the ultimate with the enemy still being stunned to ensure a Feather Step with which you usually follow up has the x2.0 damage multiplier.

Items

Every ability allows you to hit a straight basic after using it and you also have to hit basics to set up your Feather Step. Also Awilix can make great use of the Mana regen because she is, as already stated, very mana hungry. This item will most likely be the second Item you get, although you can also choose Transcendence if you have some excess gold since it's more expensive but provides a higher damage spike
This Item was good in the Meta several Months ago and that was the time I really tried it on Awilix and I feel it really fits in the build. The damage is great to have on the Feather Step with essentially 100% scaling and the protections helped me stay alive countless of times. Now that the flat magical prtection is gone I also see myself using stone cutting sword more than this item just because of the protection shred
Nothing really much to say here. Core item for most ability based Assassins.
So this might be a surprise now but I consider this Item really good on Awilix. Feather Step, Moonlight Charge and Gravity Surge set up this item and allow for additional basic attack to still have the debuff applied while attacking after using these abilites. Feather Step even already gets it's own damage amplified. The power and Health is also nice to have.
You can switch out Runeforged Hammer with Heartseeker if you want to have more bursty damage output once in a while but I prefer Runeforged Hammer because the passive is always applied and it offers some health. Mostly you would not be able to hit 5 basics in a fight to make use of Heartseeker a second time after engaging.
Great Item if you want to tear down squishies because the basics you would have to hit for the damage reduction can easily be managed during Moonlight Charge's knockup or just while setting up your Feather Step.
Also core item on most assassins if you want to shred down Tanks. Pairs really well with Runeforged Hammer. In Season 5 however this item only really pays off on a tanky enemy team. If they don't have more than one Tanks Stone Cutting Sword is most likely the way to go or also even Void Shield or Brawler's Beatstick as alternative pen options.
Can also be considered in some situations if you feel like you need passive sustain in your kit and can replace either Transcendence or Hydra's Lament
So with Transcendence now getting an additional 10% CDR I really think some Assassins can successfully pick it up although it is relatively pricey and needs it's time to stack It will pay off most of the time with the 100% scaling on Feather Step or 70% on Moonlight Charge also your basics will now hit even harder. If you want to maximize your damage Trans is the way to go!

Playing her in an actual Match

Early Game
Early game is the most important time in the game for Awilix. You want to farm effectively while also prioritizing on early ganks. With one of the hardest hitting abilities early on in the game Awilix is a great threat to anyone in the game. Her kit is already really great to have a good damage output at level 2 and Feather Step allows you to negate some damage by timing it right. You usually want to invade if you can and prioritize on immobile targets and use Gravity Surge as soon as possible (not in the fight but early in the game as soon as you level it). You also want to try to snowball in early game to have a more pleasant mid-game

Mid Game
Mid-Game is really dependend on how you did before. If you played right and got only a little ahead you can go "head over heels" and try to get as many good ganks as possible and it is also really easy for you to steal enemy camps and get away with it because of your good mobility. (Don't really go head over heels and play stupid but don't be afraid to show your strength]
If you are behind in midgame your upmost priority is Farming. If Awilix falls behind she is one of the hardest gods in the game to come back with. Thats why you need to cooperate with your team to ensure your lanes are safe while you farm your way back into the game. If you get to shift ahead you can be a little more aggressive.

Lategame
Lategame you are rarely supposed to be engaging in teamfights but to pick squishies from the backline and combo them down, then escape as quickly as possible. Always wait for the enemy to make a mistake because you have a very strong punish. Also your ult will mostly be cleansed anyway so don't expect your ult to be the biggest game changer but somewhat of a beads burner although you can get some good kills and combos with it. Your kit makes you also a really good tank shredder which is why you can also pick offposition tanks if you need to.

Final Thanks

This was my first Guide and I wanted to make it compact to begin with.
I am planning on adding some advanced mechanics and other guides to make the whole page more advanced but thats for a later date.
I would really appreciate any criticism and ideas to make the guide better.
Thanks for reading my Awilix Guide!

Good build but Runeforged Hammer is a terrible item for Awilix, and Soul Eater is pointless when Transcendence exists.

Also 2nd item is a bit early to get Masamune in your defensive build.
I would change it to be like this: Warrior Tabi, Jotunn's Wrath, Masamune, Ancile, Titan's Bane, Spirit Robe.

Also consider the tier 1 Katana and Mace starts instead of tier 1 Boots for your start.

@Voltex, based on previous discussions on Runeforged and Soul Eater (from my previous comment), if you're in general agreement, I might suggest taking them completely out of the build.

Actually, though, I wonder if Soul Eater really is all that bad for her, IF you decide not to go with that Trans/Jotunn's/Hydra's combo. I know she's meant to burst quickly and get out, but the recent buff to SE might make it a bit nicer for some general sustain.

That said, especially with that Hydra's buff, it's more core than ever. If you decide not to go Trans, I can see SE being used, but 40% CDR not really required, and hard to argue with the core build.

Awilix doesen't need the sustain from Soul Eater. She's not an AA-based assassin like Kali nor is she a ability based hunter like Neith. Im not saying Transcendence is a must, but it is a viable option (which Soul Eater isn't for her).

Just a heads up, Runeforged Hammer actually doesn't work on knockups like Moonlight Charge and Gravity Surge

Voltex | February 8, 2018 6:09am
I do understand your concern after reading through the text a second time. I never meant that the damage from these abilities is amplified by Runeforged Hammer because the item is just way too inconsistent in that regard. I just meant that these abilities count as a form of CC to allow the passive to be applied to any further damage like basic attacks. I didn't think it would be important to add but now that you mention it I probably should.

Cyberhawk94 (4) | February 9, 2018 9:20am
They actually don't though, it doesnt show it on the Runeforged Hammer link here, but the full text in game specifies that the passive doesn't apply with knockups.

The only ability she has that interacts with it at all is Feather Step, and even then it only applies to the actual feather step damage

Hey Voltex,

Good overall summary of abilities and item choices. I have some comments, hope you don't mind.
  • Updated for S5, but your intro still says Season 4. Quick fix.

  • From your "pros" section, think she probably has a strong early game for S5, especially since jungle minions have significantly reduced health.

  • Skill order...with the S5 jungle and what I would consider very quick camp clear potential, I would propose an adjustment to your skill order. Instead of getting Moonlight Charge at level 2, I really think Summon Suku is going to be more functional (but you're the Awilix expert so this is just theorizing on my side). The huge MS increase (along with the Speed Buff) is going to make your ability to rotate, and infiltrate / steal enemy camps that much better. You're obviously not going to use Suku for the damage, and summoning and canceling Suku is going to eat up mana, but I feel that's the better level 2 item. I'd personally then put another point into Feather Step at level 3 (as long as you can still use the extra damage and you're not over-killing minions), and then get your first level in Moonlight Charge at 4. Yes, that might decrease your kill potential a bit, but until you get your ult at 5, Moonlight Charge won't have its full (situational) potential.

  • Items...okay, here we go. So...with mana-hungry Awilix, in your basic build, I wonder how Transcendence would fare as the 2nd item. Of course, normally you'll get stacking items 2nd, but I hear your reasoning behind Hydra's. But now with S5 Trans now also having CDR and the changes to the Jungle, you'll be using abilities more often in quick jungle rotations, and you'll appreciate the extra mana more, especially if you're constantly summoning and dismissing Suku between camps. It always sucks having to worry that you're going to run out of mana if you decide to go for one more camp or attempt a gank. Also, Since Hydra's passive damage increase is dependent on your base damage output, it'll have stronger effect the harder your abilities hit, which means a bit later in the build is fine.

As such...I think Trans might be a better standard option 2nd, but would love to hear your thoughts.

  • In your write-up of Shifter's Shield, you talk about it losing the flat magical protection, which is true situationally, but keep in mind it still will provide 35 magical protection under 50% health...being nitpicky, but feel the statement is possibly misleading. One other thing to consider is that Stone Cutting Sword's protection is just as situational as the magical protection...you need to get basics in to get the protection, and it's only physical. With Shifter's, you'll get at least 35 physical protection no matter what, which will help if you find yourself on the defensive side of things rather than initiating.

  • You forgot to take off the mention of CDR on The Crusher for S5...that passive changed.

  • I'm guessing Titan's Bane vs. Stone Cutting Sword will be the big "this or that" item choice...though both might work interestingly in some cases (protection reduction / % pen inefficiency notwithstanding). In TB's section, you talk about SCS or Masamune being alternative options (at least that's the way it sounds to me...but Masa has no pen, so I don't feel it's a replacement consideration at all for TB or SCS.

  • I do think Soul Eater could have some potential for sustain, but with Trans' added CDR, if you consider Trans / Jotunn's / Hydra's to be generally core, then SE doesn't really have a place in the build. Just something to keep in mind. I do see in your damage build alteration that you leave out Hydra's, so perhaps it could situationally fit in there (but for what, I don't know).

Anyway, good tips for the abilities, and am interested in getting your opinion on the above points!

So to answer all your stuff:
  • I fixed all the Season 4 things since I only updated the Guide quickly the last time without really looking into everything that has changed. That's also why The Crusher is gone now from Items
  • Early game is still strong, sure but I just have to let my concern with the nerf in 4.19 out. Taking 33% of her damage at level 1 was just unecessary only because some people got caught in the Sunder Meta...
  • I haven't really looked into how much better your Mana Sustain is on PTS with Assassin's Blessings thats why I left Moonlight Charge at 2 since it provides the same amount of camp clear as Summon Suku but also provides better wave clear and since you most likely wanna split a midwave at level 2 or gank a lane the knockup is also better to have in that case. I have to play more on PTS to see if the faster MS is really worth it to still have enough Mana sustain
  • Trasncendence can work really well as a second item, sure. I just wanted to generalize the build for the average user who just copies builds since Hydra's Lament is cheaper and can be bought second in most situations. You can easily swap these both if you want to since Transcendence has a higher damage spike. Manawise I would still prefer Hydra's just because I feel MP5 is overall better than flat Mana. You can always still clear one more camp if you just need a little more Gold with scaling MP5. Trans just provides more mana while Hydras provides basically unlimted mana as long as you don't blow it.
  • I didn't mean I mostly swap out Shifters for Stone Cutting for the same effect, just as a different flex item option. They both have a different style and I just meant I pick Stone Cutting more recently since I generally have a more glass-cannony build.
  • The Masamune shouldnt have been in that text passage
  • Soul eater standpoint was also corrected

I created an account specifically to comment on how much I like this build. I knew going in it was created with Conquest in mind, but I'm primarily an Arena player and was having trouble finding a good build for that mode. I tried this one and found it incredibly viable. Awilix's kit is great for plucking weak links from the enemy cluster, and for flanking/distracting/bailing out. So I love that this build capitalizes on cooldown and attack speed, and offers some flexibility in cases where you need to swap out some damage for defense. Really great job, and thanks!

I don't think the build has any attack speed in it all...unless you build The Crusher.

Great guide, Looks super clean and organized. I personally think Awilix will always be a viable counter pick to any god with a leap no matter what the meta is.

The only comment I have is the "First Back" in your build section. As a jungler you should back AS SOON as you have enough for full Warrior Tabi. Running around with that gold and only 2 starter items makes you a walking treasure chest for anyone who can get the kill on you.

I'm a Fenrir main so naturally I despise Awilix >.>, but nonetheless, +1 from me :) great job.

The first back was meant as a "If you have excess gold get as much of Hydra as you can"
