The default works just fine for me. However,

Hel, like some other Norse gods, has a stance system where she switches play styles. In total, she has 6 usable abilities.
Restoration: This is a massive skill shot. It's hard to land in an emergency situation/team fight. Let your team mates know to run towards you in a straight line (bad idea if they are being chased) saying VHS (Need Healing) to make it easier. Keep in mind, this also does damage if it hits an enemy god (no AoE effect like
Decay). However, you don't receive healing like you do for hitting an ally god.
Decay:
Use this to clear minions and perhaps get a kill on a fleeing enemy. This has a small AoE explosion if it reaches maximum distance, hits an enemy god (will pass through minions, while dealing damage to them, without exploding), or hits a wall. Unlike Restoration, this can give you a more forgiving error margin.
Cleanse is what you will use to take massive turds on
Nox and
Fenrir (other gods as well).
- Nox's CC is next to useless against this ability. Just use it on your ally as soon as she activates her
Siphon Darkness or 
Shadow Lock on them. Nox will probably start targeting you now (good thing and bad thing). This lets your damage dealers go in and wreck her without having to worry about annoying CC. However, magic defense and mobility weren't the strong points of this build. If she successfully locks you down, you're gonna have a bad time.
- Shut down Fenrir's
Ragnarok by using this on an ally he has targeted (keep in mind he can still painfully deal 500+120% of his physical power if he manages to successfully bite). If you suspect you are the target, apply this on yourself before the CC hits you. If you fire your Cleanse on yourself too early, you'll be vulnerable. This is why I listed 
Purification Beads as a viable relic.
Hinder:
Another skill you use to piss enemies off. The magical protection reduction is valuable to you, your guardian, and your offensive mage. On top of that, this thing SLOWS enemies. Some examples for when Hinder will give your allies a good edge:
- When you see your hunter duking it out with their hunter.
- When your guardian is initiating and your damage dealers are in place.
- An enemy is trying to flee. Slow them down/debuff them so you can follow up with Decay or an ally with high mobility can go in for the chase.
Inspire: This is your main AoE heal that ticks every 1s, for 6s. Use this to apply
Celestial Legion Helm and lotus crown buffs. On top of that, allies get a whooping 25% movement speed boost. Use this as soon as team fights break out so allies will have their respective buffs and a heal over time for the next 6 seconds. This makes a very good emergency triage as well.
Repulse:
This is also one of your main minion wave clear tools. Start with Hinder, next use Decay, and finish with Repulse for minions and enemy gods. Repulse is a very good AoE damage dealer (it has twice the radius of Decay's explosion), so it's very effective when you have multiple enemies surrounding you.
"ULTIMATE"

Hel doesn't have a true ultimate. You just switch stances with this. Keep her passive in mind as you play: If you stay in light stance long enough, her heals become better (you become a better medic). If you stay in dark stance long enough, she gets more magic damage (better for clearing waves since you aren't building any damage).
Summary of what roles you will be playing
In Light Stance: Be the tanky medic. Heal, apply buffs from your items, and cleanse CCs.
Note: The whole reason I advocated being tanky was so you can take some damage without having to return to base (and on top of that, all the tanky items I suggested have CDR). You should not be front lining or initiating.
In Dark Stance: Clear (or help clear) minion waves while harassing and helping secure kills with Hinder.
You need to consistently switch between light and dark stances.

Hel's 2 in light stance is a specific ability to counter Ares ult. Not only does it counter it for you but teammates at well. I just think there are relics that could be more useful for something that Hel does not have in her kit.

Also, you should totally write a guide for
Bracer of Undoing is strong on any god except Supports in my opinion. But it's especially strong on mages because
1. They're squishy so if they get bursted down they can reverse the damage
2. Most mages rely on heavy CDR and Bracer reduces cooldowns by 3 seconds. Time it with the passive on
I've thought about doing a new guide when I have some free time but I'm not really sure on who yet. Obviously it should be on a god that I know about but I'd also like it to be on a god that doesn't really have a good guide out there. If I did though it would be a Conquest guide not an Arena guide. Thanks for the offer though.
