This build could do with a little polishing. Stone of Gaia, Shifter's Shield, Titan's Bane??? Not ideal.

Cooldillan (3) | July 27, 2018 11:03pm

I'm interested in your thoughts on how you would make this build better? You always have solid explanations into your item choices.

Thanks

I would swap the Shifter's Shield for Midgardian Mail, would get Genji's Guard second in the first build (and don't get Stone of Gaia at all). I also wouldn't build Magi's Cloak on him either, at least for solo role.

For the start I also recommend Chalice of Healing, and as a rare exception to typical warriors you could get Mage's Blessing instead of Warrior's Blessing.

Right now, Stone of Gaia, Shifter's Shield, and Titan's Bane are all items that are considered on the weak side.

Stone of Gaia got a series of nerfs, and the HP5 aspect is significantly weaker than it used to be. Although it's still the best single item for health regen, the passive it provides isn't something that's typically helpful, and is very situational.

Shifter's Shield is okay in a sense, and likely the most acceptable of the 3 items mentioned. He has decent scaling, so the power can be put to some use, and the protections, while not high, will be helpful. That said, you'll probably be better served by getting Void Shield. Your job as SWK is to cause a ruckus and be in the middle of a fight. Physical teammates will benefit from the protection reduction aura.

Titan's Bane is a pure offensive item, and as such is usually not the best to get. Most Warrior solos (unless they're steamrolling) won't get pure offense...the most they often go is a hybrid item, such as Masamune.

Solid item choices but there's no penetration. Stone cutting sword isn't viable for ability warriors like sun wokong IMO.

Cooldillan (3) | April 9, 2018 9:40am
why go pen on a solo laner a solo laners job is to either tank or run at the enemies carries, carries dont have the highest defense so pen isnt a must
2
Branmuffin17 (394) | March 20, 2018 2:09pm
I would say that many times, Warriors in the Solo lane might not build pen at all. This is carrying over from the tank meta from S4, in combination with the nerfs to %pen like Titan's Bane. If anything, the items they may tend toward for a bit more offense are hybrid items that provide some power, like Masamune or Shifter's Shield...though Void Shield as a protection reduction item is always an option too though still not the most popular.

Agreed about Stone Cutting Sword not being the greatest item for him, BUT...you said there's no pen, but SCS does provide situational pen effect too =P

Twinchaos36 | March 23, 2018 1:27pm
Stone cutting sword applies protection reduction by basic attacks. It's not the same as penetration. If you want to be cheeky about it :p

Even a little pen for me is a must. Just personal preference. :)

I think it would behoove you to remove your attitude from this guide. Calling your readers stupid or trash if they don't agree with your suggestions is not the way to persuade them to follow your suggestions. Also, ignoring well thought-out criticism makes it appear that you only posted this build to participate in the contest and that it's not a "serious" build. I don't normally downvote guides, but the attitude present in this one made me not want to delve into it closely to see if I agreed or could learn something. Drop the attitude and fix your spelling and grammar issues and you could have a great guide. As it is, this is just this side of terrible.

well, i'm glad you think i should BEHOOVE my attitude on MY guide. This guide isn't too bash others it's to allow it to sink in. You build a build one game and frag doesn't mean it is good. I will however fix the spelling and grammar issues thank you for your feedback.

I was a bit harsh, but think about how you felt when you read my comment: that's pretty much how I felt when I saw your comment that basically said I'm stupid if I don't follow your advice. It is your guide, but I don't think it's good practice to insult your audience. I always like reading what others think of various gods to see if I can improve my own play, but I won't read a guide that I feel insults my intelligence. I'm not saying you should go so far as to say "if it pleases you use this...", but I would remove the attitude. Present your reasons as to why you pick a particular item and/or skill and I'll make my own decisions as to whether or not I agree. Your guide looked interesting, but as I said, I'm not going to read one where the author calls me stupid if I don't agree with them.

Hey Cooldillan,

So you never responded to my other comment (sad face) but I'm back anyway.
  • General item suggestions seem solid.

  • Your starting items could be better. In solo, getting T1 Boots is inefficient use of 500 gold. Instead, you can consider a couple of options.

    1) Get a T1 of a different item that provides either protection against lane enemy, or damage to help with your early clear, and get Chalice of Healing for nice mana sustain. If you have any gold leftover, fill it out with some more Health Potions or Multi Potions...you shouldn't need Mana Potions since you should be getting your mana buff.

    2) Just get Chalice of Healing plus some additional potions, and have a bunch of gold leftover so you can more quickly get into your first full item.

  • In your example build against a magical solo, don't feel that Shogun's Kusari is a good choice for your first true magical protection. And I know you probably like Shifter's Shield for the power, but think maybe you should start with the magical protection first.

I know you list alternative items, but your example build should be a strong base build, and Shogun's provides low magical protection and no health. A better standard option would probably be Genji's Guard. You don't necessarily have to max your CDR, so although BoV after that is an option, you can also skip BoV and move directly into Spirit Robe or something else.

  • In your example build against a physical solo, if you do commit to Gladiator's Shield, I think you can skip BoV and move directly into magical protection with added health (again Genji's Guard might be a better general suggestion, as the Supp might get Pestilence or you might not be facing much healing, so it's a more situational item), or a balanced protection item like Spirit Robe, Hide of the Urchin, or even an early Stone of Gaia (if it's still functional after the 5.4 patch). I'd say that when you do get Glad shield, you'd maybe sub that last for BoV if you want to get your CDR higher at that point (allowing you to get other counter items like Nemean earlier).

I am deeply sorry i did not reply to your previous comment (i tried, i typed like five paragraphs and it didn't save!!!!!!!) i go the glads into BoV overall because there shouldn't be too much magical presence in your lane unless the enemy has a magical Jungler. in that case obviously go glads or pestilence. but i do agree with the Shifters second being a bit of a mistake and will change the guide, my idea was most magical characters don't come online until mid to late so going the magical third instead of second would slightly be the play ,but i turn my opinion. thank you for commenting =) oh yeah P.S. stone cutting sword OPOPOPOPOP ;)

Okay I'm changing my opinion a bit here. Rushing Boots is viable. Above starting suggestions are still good, but if you want to rush boots for stronger early pressure, that's okay too. However, I'd still change the potion lineup...I'd probably suggest 3 or 4 Healing Potions + 2 or 3 Multi Potions...don't think you need 3 Mana Potions.
1
Cooldillan (3) | April 9, 2018 9:42am
i do overall agree i dont rush boots as much as i used to due to needing super early pressure but mana pots arent a must because you should always have mana pots

Hey Cooldillan,

Since you don't have much of a writeup, thought I'd just comment on the build.
  • The basic choices you have are all solid, but I have reservations about some of the orders...

  • Definitely BS starter, as far as I've ever known. Don't think DT works that well, he doesn't have very good attack progression. I know it's still an option, but if you pretty much always go BS, just go BS and get rid of DT.

  • You're likely going to get the mana buff...as such, I don't see the need for Chalice of Mana...if anything, you'd get Chalice of Healing + some Mana Potions or Multi Potions. Depending on how things go, Bumba's Mask would be an alternate item to get along with Bluestone Pendant.

  • I like how you have a general build against both magical and physical. Still, I think Gladiator's Shield as 4th item in the magical build is a bit too late for that item and you'd be best served just skipping the bridge there.

  • Mystical Mail, it's too expensive being built 5th...it's super expensive earlier, but you get it as 2nd or 3rd in some unique cases to help with your clear and lane pushing...late-game, you're paying premium price for what really are underwhelming stats.

  • Don't really see a fit for Stone Cutting Sword and don't ever want to see an SWK build Magi's Blessing...but that's me.

Other than those, item choices look okay to me. Your thoughts?
