How to play level 1:
At fountain when you load into the match, switch to Ice Stance using Elemental Mastery. When the speed camp spawns at 0:20, use the your Ice Stance 2 ( Vortex / Dragonfire / Blizzard) over the wall on the speed camp to help your jungler clear it, then head to Mid lane, use Elemental Mastery to switch to Fire Stance, and use your Fire Stance 2 ( Vortex / Dragonfire / Blizzard) on the Mid wave).
From here you can mainly stick to Ice stance for waveclearing, but Fire Stance is good for shredding opponents health close range, and melting objectives, Ice Stance is good for ranged poke as well as slow utility, and Arcane Stance is useful for CC'ing / catching someone out of position with it's pull to the centre of the AoE.
Remember that Overload gives Merlin a Polynomicon-like proc to use after each ability, making AA-cancelling pretty important for Merlin. An example could be Ice 1 > AA > Ice 2 > AA.
