Introduction

Introduction

Hello everybody, I am IxDeclarexWar and this will be my first guide ever. This is a casual Medusa guide for all those new to the god or for those looking to change up their play style. Now, I am fairly new to SMITE, however I have grown attached to Medusa and have a lot of success with her. Currently with Medusa I have a | 1.78 KDA | 59.42% W/L | I mostly play Joust and Conquest, with the occasional Arena every now and then. I am Mastery Rank X Diamond Medusa.

I have a main damage build and a fun AOE joust build in this guide. I believe with the proper team support, Medusa has the ability to deal high AOE damage as well as high single target damage, making her very versatile in cramped team battles, 1 on 1 deuls, and especially when running a lane with a guard in conquest.

Pros VS Cons

Pros VS Cons

Pros
Cons

+ Mobility
+ Attack Speed
+ High Basic Damage
+ Area of Effect
+ Escape/Root/Stun
- Slow Start/Clear
- Slow Cooldown
- Low Mana
- Squishy
- Ultimate Timing

Medusa's passive Sidewinder combined with movement speed and attack speed items help her stay mobile and untouched while still providing a constant onslaught of basic attacks. Her abilities allow her to get in and out of battle quickly whether it be for a take down or simply running for your life. With the aid of her ultimate, Medusa's Petrify can be a great asset to a team battle, a solo duel, or it can be used in a sticky situation to escape a gank. In early game Medusa is at a disadvantage because of her slow minion clear. If running solo it is wise to play the lane cautiously and to not push hard. Low mana and slow cooldown rates make it even harder for Medusa to clear early on. One flaw Medusa's ultimate has is that an enemy can avoid taking full damage and the stun effect if not facing Medusa when activated.

Skills

Skills

Sidewinder: This is a great passive because it allows Medusa to side strafe without a movement speed penalty and backwards with only %50 penalty, this synergizes well with movement speed items such as Hastened Fatalis.

Viper Shot: Viper shot allows you to fire three shots with an increase in attack speed and causing DOT.

You're going to want to max out Viper Shot after Acid Spray and before Lacerate.

Tips and Tricks
  • Always activate ability before leaving the store.
  • Activate before using Lacerate
  • Synergizes well with attack speed items.

Acid Spray: A conic spray that causes splash damage.

You're going to want to max out Acid Spray before Viper Shot and before Lacerate.

Tips and Tricks
  • This is your main damage dealer in early game.
  • Always keep enemy minions in between you and enemy gods.
  • Splash damage running or advancing gods by hitting a group of minions.

Lacerate: A dash forward that deals damage, roots, and causes healing reduction.

You're going to want to max out Lacerate after Viper Shot and before Petrify.

Tips and Tricks
  • Use to grab and root a fleeing god.
  • Use as an emergency escape when things get too heated in battle.
  • Activate Viper Shot before dashing forward then fire away when enemy is rooted.

Petrify: This ultimate stuns affected targets for 2 seconds causing high damage. If an enemy isn't facing Medusa when Petrify is activated, they will take half damage and be slowed for 3 seconds.

You're going to want to max out Petrify after all other abilities have been maxed out.

Tips and Tricks
  • Timing is crucial to get the most out of this ultimate.
  • Can also be used to escape a gank when you are being overpowered.
  • Waiting at corners for your enemies to push and popping out with the ultimate already activating works wonders.

Skills Summary

So, our main goal is to get Acid Spray maxed out as early as we can so that minion clearing becomes easy enough to get quick stacks on our Devourer's Gauntlet. I give my third skill point to Lacerate just incase an early team fight ensues and there is a runner. It is good to have for securing a kill early on. Now that my Acid Spray is on its way to maxing out and I have unlocked Lacerate, I aim to start upgrading Viper Shot. This becomes more useful about mid-game when you've aquired Hastened Fatalis. Once level 15 you start working on maxing out Lacerate, which will now give us a higher chance to secure a kill end game as it debuffs enemy healing upon connection. Last but not least, finish upgrading Petrify for maximum damage output.

Gameplay & Teamwork

Gameplay & Teamwork

For the AOE build to be as optimal as possible, TEAMWORK is of the utmost importance. In early game you want to play as DEFENSIVELY as possible, always keeping a line of enemy minions between you and the enemy gods. This is crucial because we upgraded Acid Spray twice in the beginning of the match for extra wave damage. Start by taking the damage camp right off the bat. Usually the other team is at the mana camp or still in the store. If the other team is aggressive right from the start, it is better to play it safe than sorry. Once the game gets going you want to be at the back of your team and poke at the enemy. Lay down an Acid Spray every time an enemy god pushes with a minion wave. Once you've worked down the enemies health to about half health and reached level 5, you're going to want to switch into an OFFENSIVE phase. Have your team take the front of the line (if playing joust) distracting the enemy. With all of your cool downs ready, hook off to the side lane and activate Viper Shot while keeping an eye on the gods at the edge of their tower. Notify your team of your position, and when you see the enemy push a bit out of the tower start activating Petrify and pop out. Unleash your Viper Shot on the nearest stoned enemy or Acid Spray if the enemies are grouped together. If you do not kill the first god with Viper Shot or Acid Spray you can use Lacerate to root and finish the enemy off. If you did kill the first god, proceed to Lacerate the next nearest god followed by an Acid Spray to catch any other enemies in the area trying to escape or advance with more AoE splash damage. The pace is now set for the game. Continue with an offensive advance and pay close attention to the items that your enemy is purchasing. If during the game you feel like the enemy is constantly singling you out, their defense is too high, or there is an aggressive Loki that just won't leave you alone, I suggest using either the Focus Damage Build to have a better 1 on 1 chance, or opt out for the Defensive Sustain Build.

Summary

Summary

Medusa is a very fun god to play once you get the hang of it. She is a slow start but becomes a huge asset mid-game. Very versatile in the offensive roles she can play. With these builds you can adapt to your enemies tactics as need be. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to contact me. If you would like to play with me. PSN: IxDeclarexWar

Honestly Like the guide,Well explained and it seems you have a lot of experience with Medusa before writing this guide. In short,Gr8 m8 i r8 8/8 i don't h8,would you like some chocol8.Jokes aside I would prefer if you get gods who counter or work well with her.I have no idea how powerful this could be cuz i suck with hunters (I can't aim),However i love fast attacking hunters and play them more often than most hunters.Thumbs up for me m8

Thanks, I appreciate it. Teamwork is super dependent on this build. It's meant to end a joust early, because late game you become overpowered by other hunters like Artemis or Xbalanque in 1 on 1 boxing, however because the build is so cheap, you'll always have enough to trade out items depending on later gameplay. Its all about the first beginning game kills. Athena is a great match up with Medusa because of her ability to turn enemies towards her giving Medusas Petrify that much more chance of stunning an enemy. If there is no teamwork in the beginning of the match you will easily be overpowered. Thats why I unlock Lacerate before Viper Shot to secure early game kills which sets the tone for the rest of the game.
