If the initial gust hits an Enemy, the whirlwind surrounds and travels with them, and teleporting to the Enemy reduces this cooldown to 10s.

Susano summons a hurricane at his location, creating a Vortex that drags enemies towards the center while growing to up to twice its size, increasing the damage as it grows. Upon reaching full size, the storm is launched in the direction he is facing, knocking up opponents in its path. Susano may re-activate this ability early to fire the storm at its current size for reduced damage. If fired at less than half of its maximum size, he also foregoes the knock-up.

Introduction

Hey guys! I'm Sheared, I've been playing this game for 7 years with over 3.5k hours now and I'm a top 8 soc player, I've decided to make this guide to try and help new players understand Susano's ins and outs, as well as because every guide I see her is either outdated, incomplete or simply bad. I have around 250 games on Susano across all accounts with 67 % winrate, at the time of making this guide I am masters with 2.6kish mmr.

Skills

Gathering Storm


Most people when playing Susano forget about the passive, but his passive can do a lot of bonus damage and that could mean life or death. Its a passive that rewards all in-ing and shouldn't be taken lightly.

Storm Kata


The bread and butter of Susano's damage, and his most unique ability. A 3 part ability that allows basics in between for maximizing dps, it is also a great escape and mobility tool.

Wind Siphon


The fight starter most of the time, a great ability that displaces the enemy and puts him into your melee range guaranteeing an auto and another ability hit afterwards, do note that this ability counts as a knock up so it will trigger items like Stone of Gaia.

Jet Stream


Probably the most important ability in Susano's kit, it is his lock on target ability that doesn't let most characters get away from him. It also makes an amazing escape too.

Typhoon


Every ability in his kit is versatile and this is no exception, this ability is a great 1v1 ultimate that knocks up the target and deals big damage, it's almost a guaranteed 1v1 winner if you have it up and use it right. But on the other hand it also makes a great finisher for targets who managed to escape and are low. The range and the area Typhoon covers makes this an amazing teamfight ultimate as well being able to knock up 4-5 gods at the same time in a teamfight if placed right.

AA Cancelling

Before we get into combos, we need to explain what AA cancelling in Smite means. It's a core part of the game and this character specifically, letting him maximize his damage output, while not required in some cases it will improve your experience and gameplay by a lot once you learn to do it as 2nd nature.

AA cancelling is breaking your auto-attack chain and refreshing it, meaning your auto-attack chain will start from the first aa after using an ability. Susano's aa chain is 1/1/1.25 with the 3rd basic being delayed. Because of the 3rd basic attack being delayed and the start up of the first one being almost instant, we want to avoid using his 3rd basic while fighting even though it does more damage, and we want to use the 1st one the most. Meaning you want to fire an aa after every ability to maximize damage output.

Practice this until you start doing it without thinking and it becomes 2nd nature to you, since it will help you out a lot.

Combos

Introduction



Susano is not a one combo character, requiring a lot of different combos and ability sequences depending on the situation. I'll list a few of them but do note that there are situations where sometimes other things are better as well.

Combos


  • Wind Siphon>aa> Jet Stream>aa> Storm Kata>aa> Storm Kata>aa> Jet Stream>aa>backstep> Storm Kata>aa

    This is the usual ability sequence that you use to kill a target 100-0, if the target has a dash or leap time your 2nd cast of Jet Stream so you teleport to them after they finish casting it and continue your combo. If the target manages to live after all of that use your ult to secure the kill.

  • Typhoon> Wind Siphon>aa> Typhoon>aa> Storm Kata>aa> Jet Stream>aa> Storm Kata>aa> Jet Stream>aa>backstep> Storm Kata>aa

    This is the usaul ability sequence that you use if you think you wont be able to win without using your ult or you will get outdps-d, this locks the target in a big cc chain while youre able to dish out damage. Alternatively you can switch places with his ult and 2 if you think u can get the ult knock up off without them jumping away. If typhoon is cast in melee range hit an auto between the first cast of Typhoon and Wind Siphon

  • Typhoon> Blink Rune> Wind Siphon>same combo as 2nd one

    This is a deadly addon to the second combo since if you do this correctly, you can pull and cc lock the targets from a big distance away where they think they are safe. If you are new to the god this might take some practice to pull of and knock them up with the edge of the ult.

Items

Warrior Tabi



bread and butter of any character in smite, the movement speed increase and the power spike is insane while being so cheap. It is a must have. You build this over Ninja Tabi because while the attack speed is nice, the power difference in boots is too much to ignore on an ability heavy god.

The Crusher



A core item on Susano because of its early spike and stats, it has everything susano would want out of a 2nd item. Not extremely expensive, has attack speed for faster aa cancelling, has good power, and has flat pen to shred those annoying base protections as well as a decent passive for a nice bonus.

Hydra's Lament



The most core item on Susano, because of the heavy aa cancelling hes procing hydras so much, and because of the nature of hydras passive his dps increases tremendously. This item is the biggest power spike for him and after you buy it you should look to fight no matter what to get ahead.

Arondight



The better Trans, giving an insane amount of cooldown reduction and power with a good passive as a bonus. The cooldown is especially crucial now because of the recent Bumba's Hammer nerfs making you cap cdr with a potion! It's a great item and there is no reason not to buy it.

Heartseeker



Hands down one of the most broken item passives in the game, this items passive is the tank shredder as well as the 75 % bonus damage is absurd. This item apart from giving great power 10 percentage pen which you want at this point in the game makes you a living hell for anyone trying to fight, it is the last big power spike you'll have and makes you be able to melt tanks as well.

Bumba's Hammer



Everything you could want out of a starter item upgrade, core on all non aa junglers giving you an insane boost in cooldown and survivability lategame, making your dreams of carrying 1v9 closer to reality! Always go this item, never opt for spear as it is poop.

Brawler's Beat Stick



The only good assassin antiheal item, you build it 2nd or 4th slot and delay each item by one while building it. While that doesn't sound amazing it is absolutely essential in a lot of games especially with the current heal meta. So please build this when needed.

Titan's Bane



Titan's is an item that you won't usually build, since its almost exclusively an item that's used on tanks due to the nature of its passive and % pen since its not really your job to focus the tanks at the start of teamfights. You wanna build this if the enemy team has 3 tanks or if squishies are building full on defense items.


Ancile



A really great bruiser item that's very situational used for disrupting abilities like cerbs 2 and anubis 1, most of the games you won't build this but the games you do it shows how much its worth.

Magi's Cloak



This item is built for one purpose and one purpose only, while the stats are alright the reason you build this item is to immune the pesky cc that will peel you off the backline like ***bha 3. You want to avoid building this when enemies have long range easily applicable cc like erlang pin since they will just pop your bubble before you go in every time.

Mantle of Discord



Hands down the best defense item in smite, while expensive it gives insane amounts of stats right off the bat and a passive that's great for escaping. If you are getting collapsed on too much and are dying, this item is your saving grace.

Tips and Tricks

  • After tagging someone with Jet Stream you can teleport to them and it will reduce the cooldown of the ability to 10 seconds
  • Typhoon is aimed where you are looking, if you die while looking at a side that's where the the ability will fire off
  • You don't have to wait for the knock up of the Typhoon to charge up, in some situations its good to also fire it off as soon as you cast it, examples finishing off enemies or trying to steal an objective.
  • Storm Kata> Storm Kata>Hold W> Jet Stream> Jet Stream> Storm Kata is the fastest way to get out of base, just be careful not to do this if enemies are at your phoenix as you will not have those abilities to fight or defend yourself.
  • At level 2, choosing to level 1 or 2 is a choice you need to make, 1 is more damage while providing no cc meaning its better clear and higher burst, while the 2 is cc and displacement, you can choose the 1 if your midlaner has cc and doesn't need setup for his kit to easily hit, while you choose 2 if your midlaner needs a pull to get his abilities of and kill example god of being really good with susano 2 Hera or Nu Wa

Is there any advice you can give a beginner player still trying to learn the reigns of Jungle?
I keep running into tanks that build damage, and Bruisers, any advice on what to build or do?

My honest advice is, play, play and play. Try to learn why you build the items that you build and why you do things that you do. If you get surprised by seeing bruisers and tanks that build full damage, get in habit of clicking TAB to see what the enemies have built so you can play how to fight them accordingly.

Wouldn't it just be better to build towards maxed out CDR? The damage in the build is solid, but if they kill you before you can fire off an ability, is it worth it?

CDR doesn't make you fire abilities faster, it makes you get them faster. As susano you wont be doing mulitple rotations of your abilities to kill someone, rather u want more damage on the initial burst. Plus with the current build s8 build which I will update at some point you have 40 % cdr, which is max.
