Introduction

Hey there! My name is Vini, I'm a casual Smite player, and this is my second guide! I've been playing Smite for more than a year now, and once again I want to contribuite to the community with my small knowledge of the game. Shall we begin?

For this guide, I chose Khepri, The Dawn Bringer, because this big beetle in my favorite guardian for the support role, and I hope that this guide encourage you to play him in some way. I guarantee that once you get the feeling of playing everyone's favorite bug, you're never going back!

This guide was, originally, the SmiteFire Community Guide for Khepri, but PsiGuard was kind enough to transfer the guide for me. With that, I want to, first and foremost, thank the original contribuitors:

"I bring the light itself, and I will use it to protect the innocent!" - Khepri

In this guide, I'm going to explore Khepri as a support, going through his strengths, weaknesses, abilities, combos, builds, goals as a support and general tips.

As on my other guide, I'm not going to cover Conquest general strategies and tactics, since I'm focusing on the god's mechanics and specificities. However, if you want a in-depth Conquest guide, you can check Bramuffin's Guide: The Overarching Conquest Guide

WHO IS KHEPRI?

Khepri is a backline defensive support that specializes on protecting his team and punishing those who try to dive his allies. His playstyle is very defensive and reactive - sure, he can be an initiator, but his focus is on reacting to the enemy team's actions, so he can try to shut them down - so he's best served building full defense items, since his damage output isn't that high. Keep in mind that Khepri isn't a bully or a highly aggressive support like Ares, Bacchus or Jormungandr, but more like Sylvanus and Ganesha.

..... PROS .....

• Super tanky.
• Lots of CC with Abduct and Solar Flare;
• Can save allies from death with Scarab's Blessing;
Rising Dawn can help with clear and protect allies;
• Can shield allies with Fortitude;.
..... CONS .....

• Useless if behind;
• Mana hungry and long cooldowns;
Scarab's Blessing is hard to master and can be countered by executes;
Abduct makes you vunerable to basic attacks;
• Big hitbox, easier to get hit;
• Low damage, very reliant on his team.

Abilities

Fortitude
Description: Every 5s, Khepri applies a shield to himself and nearby allied gods for 2% of the target's Maximum Health for 15s. The rate is slowed to every 10s while in combat. (Max 10%).

Overview: Fortitude is an AOE shield that affects all allies nearby and scales with the target's health. It's great during the laning phase to protect your ADC, and good to apply to all allies before a big teamfight. Just remember that you have to stay close to your allies, otherwise the shield fades away

Abduct
Description: Khepri lunges forward, dealing damage to enemies he passes through. If he connects with an enemy god he stops, grabs them, and starts pulling them backwards while gaining increased Protections. Enemies are silenced for the duration of the pull.

Overview: The best CC in Khepri's kit, Abduct can basically grant a kill in later stages of the game, if your team respond accodngly to it. However, you have to be VERY careful when using it, because it doesn't stop basic attacks, so even with increased protections, be ready to take a few hits if you use it on the enemy ADC or Assassin.
You also don't want to use this ability without being CERTAIN that you'll grab someone, otherwise you'll end up out of position.

Rising Dawn
Description: Khepri rolls the sun forward, setting ablaze all enemies it touches, reducing physical protections, and dealing damage over time. Allies that are hit take reduced damage from enemies for the duration.

Overview: At first, this ability might look like just a clear ability, but it's much more than that! Aside from helping with clear, Rising Dawn can reduce physical protections and increase your own allies protections overall. It also works on minions, so try to hit both waves (allies and enemies) when casting this ability.

Solar Flare
Description: Khepri calls down the sun's ire at the target location, dealing damage and rooting all targets in the area.

Overview: A big AOE root that can be used to iniciate onto a target or to peel for your allies. Be sure to use it accordingly, since the cooldown is high.

Scarab's Blessing
Description: Khepri blesses an allied god, immediately cleansing them of all crowd control as well as granting them Movement Speed, and immunity to slow effects. If the marked ally would die while blessed, they are instead revived with a percentage of their maximum Health at Khepri's location. Executed allies do not revive.

Overview: His ultimate is the reason I like Khepri so much! If timed correctly, you can save allies from certain death, either by cleasing them from CC or by reviving them on your location. Just keep 2 things in mind:
1. If they die, they'll respawn on your location, so be sure to stay away from danger when doing so;
2. Executed allies DO NOT come back. So if Achilles, Ao Kuang or Thanatos execute your allies, there's nothing you can do to save them.

Combos

Khepri doesn't really have a lot of combos, but I'll list two that I use the most.

Builds

Support builds might be the most diverse among the classes. Sure, there are items that are super viable and/or meta, but when deciding your build path you ALWAYS have to consider how you can boost your team strengths while countering the enemy team to make them weaker.

With that in mind, I'll do this section a little differently than in my Nike guide. I'll talk about the core items (Items that I consider you should buy ALL THE TIME) and then I'll discuss about all the situationals that we have to consider.

Support Gameplay

In this chapter, I'm going to cover Khepri's playstyle. In my opinion, and on the way that I play him, I always go to a defensive and reactive playstyle. In that sense, I only rotate when the other support does it, I only engage if my team is secure about it (I'm not an initiator, I'm a follower) and I'm not super aggressive going-for-kills in lane. I like to play it safe, and this is the playstyle that I'm going to cover in this section.

Conclusion

And I'm thinking that's it" My second guide is complete.

It was way easier than the first one, because now I know how to use BB Coding, format tables and everything else. Also, I'm more confident on my knowledge abotu the game, so I think it's going to be a better guide than my first one.

As always, I'm open to feedback. If you have any comments to do about presentation, builds or any other topic, don't be afraid to leave a comment so we can discuss about it. I want my guide to be as clear and informative as possible.

But I have to say something to you all: I lied about Khepri being a support; HE'S A CARRY!
You don't believe me? Then watch this:

PROOF!

Good Lord, what have I done?

A tip: put some emphasis that the second skill should be Abduct (the a** sucking on barbecue skin :v) and not his 3. Many people at lvl 2 unlock the 3rd skull but the 2nd is way better because it is a grab, silence and the enemy adc doesn't even have Attack speed yet so he won't hurt you too much + he also isn't able to attack anything else than Khepri, which means your adc/minions is safe and has opportunity to apply some free hits.

Also, on your credits in the end of your guide, my name is now green, not yellow ;p

Instead of buying Genji's Guard third or Sovereignty second I sometimes switch it out with Breastplate of Valor. Mainly because of the 20% cooldown reduction. It allows me to be more aggressive with my abilities especially running with a high damage god such as Izanami or Apollo. Try it out. Let me know if you like it.

With the buffs for aura items at the start of the season, I don't see a reason not to go Thebes + Sov + possibly Heartward.

I always considered Breastplate of Valor a selfish item, I avoid building it on supports (even at solos, actually) because there are better options when you're thinking about protecting your team.

As Kriega, Bran and Devampi discussed bellow, Pridwen is a better option than BoV, although Khepri doesn't use it very well.

So, uh, are you going to make this into a proper guide or not?

What about Pridwen
1
Branmuffin17 (394) | February 4, 2020 10:44am
I'm slightly conflicted on Pridwen for Khep. In most situations I've been in with him, it doesn't seem like I'd get good use out of it like I might for other gods. Myst and I were talking about this, as we're working on a Khepri community guide right now, and he actually thinks Prid is a good item...he says, after he ults and saves someone, they often go after him, so he thinks it's functional.

(Then again, maybe I call BS because he hates playing Support LOL)

I can agree with Chunk that early CDR can be very nice. He can be a bit mana hungry because you can very easily use all 3 of your main abilities when you're playing more aggressively, and it's also nice that all 3 have the ability to deal damage and have secondary use besides just damage.

But as a Support, I also feel that getting an item without some outside effect (depending on point of view) isn't as preferable. IMO, my normal build direction would be very similar to Vini's here. Shoes of Focus gets the early CDR and mana. Probably get 2 of the 3 aura items next (though there's the possibility of getting Stone of Binding after Shoes for aggression). Rather than Genji's Guard, though, I think I'd prefer Shogun's Kusari. Khep wants to be close to his teammates, so they'll benefit from the AS (especially mid-game ADCs who haven't fully built up their AS yet). Keep in mind it'll also greatly enhance a team objective push since only basics can damage towers/phoenixes.

And if you go that route, that's 20% CDR right there. Pridwen is an option to get you fully there a bit later in the build, and while that can be good, I also feel there are at least 3 other items with CDR that are very functional for Khepri... Spirit Robe, Witchblade, and Relic Dagger.

So in the end, although I feel Prid is functional, I prefer other options.

Might want to say that Mystical Mail will be mainly for countering Ao Kuang and The Morrigan as Loki isn't really a threat anymore.

Hi Vini,

Looking good. You've got most things covered, just like Papps with his new Faf guide.

Some of the same comments I applied to Papps' guide apply with this build list:
  • Rather than 3 health and 3 mana, I think you can probably replace the mana with Multi Potions. Depends on how annoying you want to be, I guess. He can be a bit more aggressive and not worry about health as much as some other Guardians, once he's built up some stacks of his passive shield, so you can really dive the enemy if you so choose. Being able to really keep your health up with continued punishment from the enemy by having a health AND multi going at the same time can be really threatening, IMO. Depends also on your ADC clearing the minions well and both of you not being zoned, in which case Mana might be better.

  • Further to that idea, one of our old members, Estidien (Salad) is a great Support, and he actually likes going aggressive on Khep, by starting at level 1 with Abduct, and focusing on that first. It's obviously weaker on minions at first, as you're unlikely to hit the entire wave, but it WILL do more damage by level 4. That's a different playstyle than what a normal Khep would probably do, but it's something to consider depending on matchups. If they can't interrupt your pull with like a Bacchus knockup or Athena taunt, it'll be better.

  • I know Khepri is a quintessential passive Support and thus does very well with auras, I still feel that Heartward Amulet is a bit lackluster overall. I don't have a problem having it as an item option, but listing as "core" is something I wouldn't suggest. I think Void Stone, depending on your team comp, is a good alternative in the early/mid game, and of course you've got other options such as Oni Hunter's Garb, Pestilence, Genji's Guard, etc.

  • It's perhaps less preferred than before, but depending on what else you build, you might be pretty low on CDR, and Breastplate of Valor is your single largest CDR buff item (of those Khep would choose, as Chronos' Pendant is obviously not a good choice for him). It should be a listed option.
Anyway, good overall. +1

I agree with you on the Heartward Amulet part, so I replaced it. I also changed some items around. Thanks for the feedback.
